Building a 10k Newsletter in Public #2
Hello everyone! This week's update on my newsletter journey brings mixed results, but every step is a learning opportunity. Here's a quick rundown:
🔹 Subscriber Growth: We added 2 new subscribers this week. While this isn't a big jump, each new member is valuable to our growing community.
🔹 Sponsorships: Securing another sponsor proved challenging this week. The first issue's sponsor felt the results were not as expected, given our starting base of 28 subscribers, which is understandable.
Despite these hurdles, I've realized the importance of a more direct approach to grow our subscriber base, especially until we hit the 100-subscriber mark. I'm planning to reach out personally through DMs and emails, using engaging copy to encourage subscriptions.
On the sponsorship front, I did extend my network on Twitter for support at $10 per issue, but the response was lukewarm, likely due to our current subscriber size. Another potential sponsor showed interest but eventually passed for the same reason. Nevertheless, I’m persistent and will continue reaching out weekly.
🎯 Next Week's Goal: I'm setting an ambitious target to reach 65 subscribers, which means about 5 new subscribers daily. It's a challenge I'm excited to take on!

I launched a web app to go along with it for artists to submit content to the newsletter. I'm pushing hard to get artists to promote their work on there.
Damn ! For past few days I was feeling depressed cause I am also at same postion ... Worked really hard on a lead magnet run some fb ads but nothing I got .. don't have much money to waste on it too ! I am currently on 36 subscribers ... Really hard it's getting as I am thinking to get a money source ASAP but can't do anything else too ! Your story exactly hit the spot ! Thanks for sharing bro... BTW what methods you are using to get subscribers? I tried DMing and TBH it's a WASTE , first of all it takes a lot of time secondly many people subscribed out of generosity of being in the network so they aren't actually opening and reading the newslater , what have been ur methods so far ?

I think for every newsletter copy you send out, you should create a summarized twitter post on that topic, and leave your newsletter's link in the comments. This way people who engage with your content and are interested in what you are writing will subscribe to your newsletter.

Thanks for sharing your story. I agree. It's so difficult to grow a big newsletter without spending tons of money. The lead magnet I feel is quite important due helping convert visitors into subs quicker. Currently my main way to grow is to post great content on Twitter, have it get a ton of views, then plug my newsletter at the bottom. Congrats man, getting my first couple subscribers was also pretty much manual by DMing each of my Twitter followers about it. i'm also growing my curation newsletter here in public and sharing how i do it with Reddit etc.
You should try out listing 'businesses for sale this week' posts in the r/entrepreneur subreddit with a cta to subscribe to be notified of future ones. I've found the majority of my subscribers through that subreddit so far
Ohh wow that really is such a good idea. I'm going to try that out. I can post my previous issue today (next issue sends out tomorrow). Essentially getting the newsletter a week early if you're subbed. It's targeted toward entrepreneurs too. Really appreciate the idea!

Thank you! Currently just Twitter. Perhaps I'll expand into Reddit eventually. I may try running a few ads, but I really want to grow without the buying subs.
