hello hackers!
two quick questions for you regarding my landing page, if you'd be so kind:
- without looking below the fold, can you describe in your own words what you think DayR is/does?
- after looking at the whole landing page, is it any more/less clear what DayR is/does?
https://dayr.app
thanks a ton!
Great one @iamskog
without looking below the fold, can you describe in your own words what you think DayR is/does?
after looking at the whole landing page, is it any more/less clear what DayR is/does?
I'm also improving my landing page, would be awesome to hear your advice!
hey felix, thanks man! yeah, that's pretty close. it's not necessarily just for art, it could be awesome kickstarter projects, new products, games, etc. that's why i'm struggling with how to describe it haha.
your landing page looks pretty good! it's immediately clear what it is. i wonder if the air table needs to be embedded on the home page, or if it would be better served as its own full-screen page. you could add a "browse list" button next to the "submit a venture" button above the fold. you could also have a sample screenshot of the table where the table currently is, and clicking on the "browse list" button or the screenshot opens the table in a new tab. it just seems like the table would be easier to navigate full screen, and a little less overwhelming on the landing page.
Consider avoiding phrases like "something new, different way, something cool, exciting" because you don't know what is something cool for somebody else. Provide exact things that it makes it cool and let the people think if it is cool for them as well.
Imagine you're inventing automatic transmission in car industry and you ask these two questions to the people that know only about manual gears:
You see my point? Write it down what is the NEW experience, what is the thing that you think is COOL and let the visitors resonate with that
so TL;DR answer too your first question - no I can't. Maybe I'll think about for a moment what it could possibly be, but then again - no clue about DayR version of that.

"This become part of my morning routine, during the coffee I turn on the app and check what will wait for me this time. I really loved it that time when [SOMETHING HAPPENED], nobody would expect that!" - Dave
BTW, that simple picture is really sending a powerful message, view through the phone to see it differently. And it really helped me to form the idea in my head, but it is not enough standalone.Provide examples
hey bruno, tons of thoughtful feedback in there, i really appreciate it!
your analogy with the automatic transmission makes perfect sense. i will think on how to revise my copy to illustrate the experience. i’m also working on a motion graphic and explainer video that will help a lot too, i think.
your understanding after reviewing the whole page is pretty close. every day the app will render the daily “experience” over the poster. initially, the experience will just be in the form of an image. could be paintings, illustrations, movie posters, kickstarter projects, etc. eventually, the app will support videos, 3d models / panoramas, mini games, etc. potentially a social aspect where you could have secret chats or make posts only friends could see.
yeah, the reviews i just made up for now, but yours is way better! glad you like the image, i hope the motion graphic does an even better job.

bee informed is a pretty cool idea… i was immediately looking for the QR code you have at the very bottom of the page. it’d be cool to get that above the fold if you can. maybe wrap it in a white background with try it out and put it above the fold on the blue bg. or maybe a bee widget in the bottom right corner that you can click and it pops up with “scan here to follow bee informed” or something like that.
i downloaded the app, and on the startup screen (events tab), it said you don’t have any events yet, please scan your first qr code, but i wasn’t really sure what to do. i went to settings fist but that wasn’t right. i eventually made my way to the qr tab, but if you have an arrow on the events tab pointing to the qr tab, that’d make it really clear to me what you want me to do. also, on iphone (xs max), the action messages (like following somebody) covers most of the tab bar, just fyi.
i really like the the concept you were going for with the app icon, blending a bee and map pin together. i think the qr code overlay is unnecessary, it just makes it busy. i’d get rid of that, make the pin itself a little bigger, make the stripes more pronounced, and tweak the wings a bit. i really like the solid white over translucent white wings, but they look more like dragonfly wings to me. bee wings look like this. still a really cool icon though!
something like this is what i was thinking for the icon...
Hey, if you still like the idea behind Bee Informed, we added a newsletter subscription form on the page https://www.beeinformed.app
Jump in to get the updates
I've just posted my idea in Idea and Validation, you can check it out
https://www.indiehackers.com/post/follow-discounts-events-and-offers-without-creating-any-profile-or-giving-away-personal-information-vs-follow-us-incognito-mechanism-25605a1118
Thanks for your checking out Bee Informed and for your suggestions!
QR above fold makes sense, to jump into the action. But then it would be more end-user oriented landing page, while I would like to get more business users, those who will create content.
Empty startup screen is something that shouldn't happen this way, since the QR you've scanned should follow the Bee topic. But that's something that we're investigating at the moment, happens on iPhones (didn't reproduce it ever on Android).
But anyway, downloading the app directly from the stores will lead to that screen you also saw and we already addressed that, there will be some walkthrough upon first opening.
And yeah, we also know about the action messages. At the moment technical development stopped until we see it more in action.
Thanks for the inputs on the icon as well.
If you want more updates about the Bee project, follow the product here on IH https://www.indiehackers.com/product/bee-informed
What stopped you from signing up and trying Bee with your own content? 😉
The designer minimalist in me loves the design haha! but maybe it's too clean.
-
For your first question, I had to think a lot and imagine what kind of value does the app bring, and I immediately thought about something in the direction of TikTok type of content (showcase talent). Then I realized it's about posters!
Consider being dead honest about it in the claim so even if you'll get less conversion initially you'll only get the ones that need the problem solved and hopefully love your app.
thanks oleg! minimalist is definitely my style, but perhaps you're right.
the poster is simply a marker that the app uses to augment the "talent." i need to revise the copy and add an animated gif and explainer video, hopefully that will help make it clear.
basically you'll use the app to view the poster, which augments the daily "experience" over the poster. initially, the experience will just be in the form of an image. could be paintings, illustrations, movie posters, kickstarter projects, etc. eventually, the app will support videos, 3d models / panoramas, mini games, etc. potentially a social aspect where you could have secret chats or make posts only friends could see.
nice! sounds like great ideas.good luck :)
haha, thanks matthieu. basically, you'd print (or possibly buy) a poster to hang on your wall, and use the app to view the poster, which augments whatever the daily "experience" of the day is. initially, the experience will just be in the form of an image. could be paintings, illustrations, movie posters, kickstarter projects, etc. eventually, the app will support videos, 3d models / panoramas, mini games, etc. potentially a social aspect where you could have secret chats or make posts only friends could see.
Nope. Something about Augmented Reality and showcase, but no idea what it is.
Guessing is like you point your phone to some place and see someone doing something (TikTok meets AR my first thought)
Now I'm more confused. What poster?
(keep scrolling)
Oh, so you see the "art" or posters... in AR.
Feedback: The landing page should be more explicit about what's the "new" and "exciting" thing to discover and showcase.
"Discover art in augmented reality app. New posters everyday" (add photo of app in action)
So now below the fold we know what to expect.
What's the print all about?
Keep the hard work!
hey oscar, thanks for taking the time to leave some feedback!
yeah, i definitely need to work on the copy.
basically, the poster is simply a marker that the app uses to overlay new content every day. it also serves as a good reminder to open the app and see what today is.
for mvp, DayR will only show images via AR. could be all kinds of things, like really cool paintings, illustrations, movie posters, kickstarter projects, etc. the app will show the image, with a button below to visit the artist's site.
eventually, the app would support videos, 3d models / panoramas, mini games, etc. potentially a social aspect where you could have secret chats or make posts only friends could see.
thanks man! what are you working on?
Adds a level of AR gamification to everyday things. And it allows you to participate in it (playing around with/ editing it, showcasing your talent (in using the app?).
Hm no. Maybe add a short gif video showcasing what your app does.
hey besart, thanks for commenting. i've got a gif ready for the next round of revisions, and i plan to make a full 60-second video showing how it really works with examples, hopefully that'll help.
An app that shows you new augmented reality projects ever day. Sounds cool!
Definitely less clear. In fact, I am now so confused that I am questioning what I think AR is. I have no idea why I need to print a poster, out how that poster relates to AR.
hahaha that's hilarious: "In fact, I am now so confused that I am questioning what I think AR is." 😂🤦🏻♂️
hopefully this helps:

thanks for the feedback dustin!
Lol - okay, NOW I get it. I’m not super familiar with AR so I wouldn’t have thought there needed to be a poster to serve as the “canvas” or “marker” (a term I wasn’t familiar with but makes sense now that you say it) for where the AR is activated/showcased. That sounds really cool.
haha, sweet. yeah, there's several different kinda of AR. it could be done without a poster, by simply detecting a wall and overlaying the content there, but i like the idea of tying it to a poster. plus seeing the poster every day is a great reminder to check it :) thanks again for your feedback!
Honestly, the description says nothing unless it is a puzzle or something. But you could just explain what the brand new way is instead of saying "brand new way".
thanks remidi, i definitely need to revise the copy! for now, the app is only going to augment a cool picture (painting, illustration, movie poster, kickstarter project, etc.) onto the poster, but eventually the app would support videos, 3d models / panoramas, mini games, etc. potentially a social aspect where you could have secret chats or make posts only friends could see.
thanks for looking nuzair.
yeah, you can print (or probably buy) a poster, which the app uses to augment the "daily experience," which could be a really cool painting or illustration, movie poster, kickstarter project, etc.
eventually, the app would support videos, 3d models / panoramas, mini games, etc. potentially a social aspect where you could have secret chats or make posts only friends could see.
thanks for the feedback jkeuhlen. i've got some revisions to make!
basically, you print out the poster to look at through the app, and every day the app will augment something new over the poster. it could be a really cool painting or illustration, movie poster, kickstarter project, etc. eventually, the app would support videos, 3d models / panoramas, mini games, etc. potentially a social aspect where you could have secret chats or make posts only friends could see.
p.s. this is a good way to get feedback (above vs. below the fold). gonna copy you.
awesome, thanks ope! of course, copy away!
yeah, i'll reword the "talent" part better... but every day it could be a really cool painting or illustration, movie poster, kickstarter project, etc. eventually, the app would support videos, 3d models / panoramas, mini games, etc. potentially a social aspect where you could have secret chats or make posts only friends could see.
yeah, i think i'll provide an option to have a poster shipped for a low cost, mabye $10 shipped. (you could also preview it first just using one of the posters on your computer screen.
No idea, other than somehow offer an AR experience.
Still don't really get it. I guess I print something out and view it through the app.
"View your poster in DayR to Cast the daily Ray" - This is particularly confusing since you're using terminology specific to your app. I don't know what Cast the daily Ray means, I've never used your app before.
thanks aaron, i was already on the fence about the copy in that step. i definitely agree with you that needs to be cleared up without app-specific termonology.
Above the fold:
I imagined some sort of blog/AR experience, where every day I get pushed a notification with something cool to look at. It feels those experiences should be generic to be able to be experience anywhere, and not tied to a geographical location.
Bellow the fold:
It hasn't changed much, other than apparently I need to print something. Originally I was thinking something along the lines of every day I get to see a different character standing on my desk, or something like that.
hey pablo, appreciate the feedback.
that's actually not too far off. every day you'll get a notification with something cool to look at. they're non-locaiton specific, so you could enjoy it from anywhere.
the poster you need to print is simply the marker that the app uses to augment the experience. to start, it would only augment images (cool paintings, illustrations, movie posters, kickstarter projects, etc.), but i eventually plan to support videos, 3d models / panoramas, mini-games, etc.
i realize having to print a poster creates a higher "barrier to entry" to use the app, but i figured if i could create a few free poster designs that were actually somewhat art-like that people would want put up anyway, it would be cool to have the app interact with the poster instead of just augmented on any detected plane.
👉🏻👉🏻 is having to print a poster (even if they're really well designed, not the placeholders i have now) a deal breaker for you?
(people could try it without printing by viewing the poster on their computer, i could be sure to point that out on the site.)
For me, in particular, printing a poster is not a deal breaker, but since I have a printer, I'm painfully aware how many of my friends don't have a printer and are proud of that (they come asking me to print stuff).
Then then the printing part was really vague
All together I’m actually not sure now what you offer?
hey chris, thanks for your time. looks like i definitely need to clear up the "talent" copy. also plan to add a motion graphic and explainer video above the fold to help demonstrate what the app does. thanks!
Without looking: Dare to do something every day.
With looking: I was confused, I did not really understand what I will get and what it does.
But I absolutely love the simple and neat landing page. Amazing job there. 🙌
thanks janis, didn't even think about DayR sounding like dare 😂
appreciate the feedback, i commented on zakke's comment a bit more about it.
hopefully the motion graphic / explainer video i mentioned there will help?
I'm in the same boat as @zakke.
I came back here before scrolling down so it wouldn't impact my feedback. Now seeing the "download a poster, print a poster, view the poster in the app" I'm not going to scroll down. Unfortunately I think you've missed the target on this one.
hey simon, this is great feedback, appreciate it!
you can read more about the point of the app in my response to @zakke, looks like even the copy ATF needs work. hopefully the motion graphic / explainer video would help.
a few questions:
Yes, unfortunately we only have a black & white printer and I use it so rarely that it feels like a massive hurdle to plug it in and print. It does occur to me though, I bet it would work displaying the poster on a TV, which might make it really quick & easy.
I disagree, I think ordering a post might work for some. I'd certainly pay for poster delivery before printing. Also because a poster is going to be higher quality and make for nice art.
I suggest the biggest thing is "how can a user go from 0 to using the app in the least time & effort". If people only spend 15 seconds on website something simialar is probably true of mobile apps.
Hope that helps,
that makes sense. i think the poster designs will probably end up being black and white, actually. or at the very least, they'll still work if printed in black and white.
good to know, i'll probably add the option of buying a poster, probably not much more than the cost to have printed and shipped.
thanks again for your thoughts.
I'll admit, the content above the fold is really intriguing, but I have no clue what "showcasing talent in a brand new way with AR" looks like.
I did scroll down and try to learn more about it, but I feel like I only became more confused :( I don't know why I'd download an app to print a poster, only to view it in the app again?
Again, I'm really intrigued by all things AR, but I think the landing page needs a solid, concrete example of what users get when they are using your app.
thanks zak! haha, yeah... i was afraid of that. i'll have to add an explainer video, and maybe make the iphone graphic above the fold a motion graphic with a real example of a poster and AR content.
basically, the poster is simply a marker that the app uses to overlay new content every day. it also serves as a good reminder to open the app and see what today is.
for mvp, DayR will only show images via AR. could be all kinds of things, like really cool paintings, illustrations, movie posters, kickstarter projects, etc. the app will show the image, with a button below to visit the artist's site.
eventually, the app would support videos, 3d models / panoramas, mini games, etc. potentially a social aspect where you could have secret chats or make posts only friends could see.
Ah, very cool. Yeah, I think an explainer video/animation would be extremely useful.
Great idea!
sounds good, thanks! if you don't mind, i'll tag you when i have another round of revisions made.
btw, prismatext looks really cool! i see there are already several books available for purchase. it'd be cool if i could see a sample page or two before buying. i bet that would really help with conversions.
Hey thanks! I'm actually working on screenshots right now 😅
haha nice!

hey dedupely, what it does for you is a great question. the simplest way to say it would be something like, "discover new art every day with AR." but it's not necessarily art, it could be awesome kickstarter projects, new products, interactive games, etc. i'll keep thinking on this. thanks!
This comment was deleted 3 years ago
haha, thanks patrick!
1b. that's actually pretty close. not necessarily youtube stars (although it could be), but awesome artists, designers, etc. every day will show a really cool painting, illustration, movie poster, kickstarter project, etc. eventually i plan to support short videos, 3d models / panoramas, mini-games, etc. and perhaps a social aspect like secret chats with friends and social posts.
at least i got something right! haha, thanks man.
