Hi Indie Hackers, I finally decided to go for it and try to start something real.
In my case, that means a number-focused log drain -- a place you can point your logs to and get analytics and metrics and numbers back out of.
This comes from a strong interest around log analysis and metrics in general and also out of pain points that I've had at work. For example, we have a process that needs to run every 10 minutes for about 2000 billboards and we need to know when that process has halted for any of these signs. We have log lines that are emitted each time the process is run, so it's not to tricky to make sure that the numbers here are in the range that they need to be.
Anyway, I work full time and have a growing family, so like pretty much everyone else I'll have to be smart about how I do this thing.
For now, the plan is to pick 9 small things every day that will move this thing forward and do them. I'd like to figure out a regular cadence for posting updates on Indie Hackers, but don't have one picked yet.
How often would you recommend reporting? Daily? Weekly? Monthly?
Also, what's the best venue for checking in? Just writing posts like this?
I'm excited to join your merry band!
since you are already having full time job my suggestion is to do it weekly. I get the excitement of reporting every day in the starting but it would become taxing on you also you may not be able to update due to some priority at your workplace.
Venue depends on what you want to get out of it? some people report it to make themselves accountable via social pressure others post it to create, engage and update audience before the product is fully ready. If you goal is engagement than you should post to your own blog/indiehacker/twitter etc. wherever you think your audiences are.
If that is not the case you should choose whatever is lowest effort it could be just a post here on IH.
Also, what do you mean by "your own indie hacker" ?
i meant your own blog or twitter or to this indiehackers community
Got it -- thanks!
Thanks for some perspective on this. I think weekly makes sense.
Hii, I'm also new there :)
Hi BoostingNation -- cool. I guess that means that we get to begin our journey together.
Welcome, Douglas. Fantastic to have you here. Looking forward to following along.
In terms of posting, you should post whenever you have something to share. You can easily do a monthly or weekly post with your goals for the period. And then, at the end of the period, do a reflection post on what you've learned.
Interesting thought about goals and reflecting and how they work together. I'll think on how I want to incorporate that pattern.

Man, yeah.
If these things compound then the math is just amazing. Sounds like in it now for a couple of months, which is way harder than the one day that I've managed so far, so props to you! Thanks for emphasizing this potentially powerful approach.
