We're trying to get creative in our marketing plans for Presspool, and I find myself thinking: What's a channel that I can be certain will reach people who subscribe to newsletters? Well, obviously, newsletters!
But none of the newsletters I subscribe to seem to have ads or sponsorship. What's your take, Newsletter Crew? Is it common? Do you do it?
I do a monthly sponsorship. $400 for 8 emails (~1 month). I have 862 free subscribers.
I’ve got one, text-only sponsor per issue in my newsletter called Security, Funded.
https://returnonsecurity.com/newsletter
It’s a weekly recap of funding and acquisition news in the cybersecurity space along with curated articles and tweets.
Yes! I run a weekly newsletter (insanelyusefulwebsites.com) with about 1,700+ subscribers and feature a sponsor every week.
Paid newsletters often don't run ads, since they already make money directly from readers. It's far more common to run ads with free newsletters, since they need some way to monetize.
At Software Ideas, we have both a free newsletter and a paid one, but we don't run ads on either. The reason for that is because we've found it's much easier and more profitable to promote our paid newsletter directly than to try to promote someone else's newsletter or software.
Still, I think we are more of the exception than the norm, and I still get a lot of requests for sponsorships in our newsletter.
Even if they don't have ads, you can do cross promos.

I work at Paved.com and you can sign up as an advertiser and publisher. so you can run ads, as well as buy ads.
I'd say it is the most common way one can monetize a newsletter. Most of the newsletters I follow use paid advertisements and I fully support it.
Thanks! I guess I just have a weird list of subscriptions :)
