Do you like this landing page? Please don’t roast xD

Hi,

Recently in a different topic where I posted my website link, a lot of users complained that the site needed a lot of work. Design wise it needed much more attention.

So I went ahead and had the layout changed.

Is it better like this?

Yes / no? What’s missing?

PS... feel free to sign up and test (and leave your feedback here)

I'm not a designer... but I feel like even I can identify a few design problems that jump out to me. 1) Why is the Free Trial + Pricing buttons on two separate lines with all that blank space on the right? Seems odd to me.
    2) At the bottom the two rows of links... they are not aligned well. "About" sticks out more over the left and it looks bad.
    3) Why is the sourceforge icon randomly hanging out in such an odd spot, not aligned with anything.

      Thank you. Great feedback.

      1. Taken care of tonight
      2. Will need some time more for this
      3. I guess this only looks good on mobile :/

Why not copy the Sendgrid or Mailgun layout? Their layouts have already been optimized and it sounds like your goal is fairly aligned with theirs. Copy their implementation to accelerate quickly.

      Not a bad idea 😂😁

    2. 1

Agreed. That would be easiest way to start with.

    Interesting @Ishtar

Used to work for the early-stage investor of SendGrid. I can see some compatible features, but keen to know what makes your product better than Mailgun or SendGrid?

It's still a no because it's hard to read the actual benefits for users.

    1. 1

Yes, it’s tough to compete with billion dollar companies and if people keep comparing startups with billion dollar products.

Why not try the product before judging it?

A lot of people here obsessed with giving their money to large Corporations, it feels odd that Indie users are like this

I don't think the design is as big of an issue as the messaging, The top of the page is completely generic. Give a differentiator or position it as a solution to a problem rather than just label what the product is.

It also wouldn't be a bad idea to include a bit of social proof and or content to add credibility.

I have used both SendGrid and Mailchimp. Other feedback had already made excellent points of potential design improvements. On top of those, I want to say that one critical missing element is the lack of key differentiators compared to SendGrid and Mailchimp. Just saying "it's more affordable" doesn't really give me any quantitative idea of how much cheaper, nor it gives me sufficient reason to try a new service, because SendGrid has a lot more functionalities and we have already spent quite a bit of time to set it up.

    1. 2

It’s actually more affordable but also has better inbox delivery (since we only focus on Transactional emails, we have a very high score with ReturnPath)

I will add that also as text.

You can always take the IP you get from Sendgrid and check the SenderScore, but I know most people won’t do this

A few things that I noticed immediately,

    • You should add some images or icons to spice up the website.

    • The slideshow under examples feels very unprofessional. Also, I wouldn't want to go to a 3rd party website to figure out what your service does. Maybe add the use cases and other diagrams to your website.

    • Almost everything on the website would look better if it was center aligned. Ex. everything in the hero section, headers for pricing, FAQ, etc.

    • The footer alignment could use some work too.

    • Some answers to the FAQ seem odd. You directly contradict yourself in your answer to "Will my emails go to the spam/junk folder?" by answering "No. Maybe once in a while." As a customer, that would make me trust you less.

      Hello,

The last point you made (regarding the contradiction) you were 100% right. I have changed that text.

Will comment on your other points ASAP

  7. 1

You could add some product images to give a sense of branding and what the experience would be like? It's a lot of text only content to consume

I haven't seen what it looked like before, but I have to be honest because I want you to succeed here. Your website lacks any character at all. Branding and design is virtually non existent. I would strongly recommend hiring a designer and copywriter to really spice up the presentation because it needs a ton of work. First impressions are everything, so don't be hesitant to invest in that if you're going to go through the trouble of building a product like this. Best of luck!

Thanks for wanting me to succeed 👊

Do you have a few examples of websites that you consider having character?

      1. 2

Sure. You can check out my own site DesignJoy.co. But otherwise, check Land-book.com as they feature some of the best landing pages everyday.

Frankly needs a lot more work in my opinion.

    1. Who is your target audience?
    2. Is there a unique value that you provide? You have mentioned that you are Mailgun alternative. But you don't say how you are different from Mailgun. You do mention below that you are "simple". But how does that benefit the user? Mention a benefit not a featue.
    3. Your tagline shouldn't be Mailgun alternative. You are assuming that everyone who will come to your website knows about Mailgun. That's not true. There are tons of email delivery services out there.

      • Consistently high inbox because we monitor our IP reputation score
      • Affordable pricing for everyone
    2. 1
      • Target business: small companies/solo entrepreneurs/indie hackers who can’t afford to pay $30+ dollars per month
      • unique value: unlimited transactional emails, unlimited recipients, unlimited domains that you can add as customer, many more features, the comparison page shows more details

Hey! I use both Sendgrid for my app now. It'd be impressive if you are handling email infrastructure at scale! Here's my take:

    Landingpage

    • I think you can remove the top yellow pricing box as you plans and pricing listed below. A large portion of the landing page feels like pricing as the first impression (you probably don't want that right?).
    • It's good that you already thought far enough into FAQ. FAQ doesn't need to be on the first page I don't think. Plus you have a dedicated page for that already.
    • "Free SMTP server" and "Buy SMTP with Bitcoin" can be combined into a navigation dropdown?
    • You can google free illustrations and icons that you can download and include in your websites easily. They have many free goodies out there. Something like email icon at least?
    • If you are going for competition against Mailgun/Sendgrid and are not too confident with the design, I think you can copy their websites almost exactly. And change and highlight the part that'd make Kingmailer a differentiator. That'd make it easier for an engineering brain to adjust the design from there.

    On target users:

    • I'm a light user on Sengrid, who's using it for free. And I'm not sure how the email service limitation works to be honest at my stage. So I guess you are targeting those that have shot up the limit (med size company)?

    Hope it helps!

I'd appreciate if you fill out my 3min user discovery survey:)

      Thank you for your feedback.

      • I have removed the yellow pricing box

I want pricing and quality to be first impression (like affordable and good quality service)

      • Ok will consider it regarding FAQ, thank you

      • Will also consider combining Free SMTP and Bitcoin SMTP into a dropdown

      • Will also check the free illustrations, thank you

      • Some other Indie Hackers has also suggested the same, to copy MailGun/Sendgrid, I will follow this advice.

Just a side note: I know Mailgun and Sendgrid are written all over my site, but that's also for SEO purpose, it's not like I am competing with billion dollar companies :/ I'm more of an alternative option, for users not into big corporations (a bit indie)

      • I am targetting users with a lower budget but who at the same time want quality service. Mailgun cheapest plan is $35, that's a lot if you're just starting a business ... also I was thinking why should users pay more than $10. But here at IH I have come to realize that a lot of users in THIS industry are connecting price with quality (I mean we pay $7 for Netflix, and no one complains about quality right?)

I have filled out our survey.

      1. 1

        Thanks!

I think it's ok to put down Mailgun and Sendgrid, if that's your positioning. DuckDuckGo guy is openedly biting on Google so.

About the last point, I see Mailgun ended than free tier. I used to use them. That's too bad. I mean cheap is always better. I don't think you need to compare with Netflix. The part I'd be a little skeptic about is if you can actually pull off unlimited emails at that price without dropping emails, since other guys are charging way more. But when I hit the limit of Sendgrid free tier, I will think of your service!

        1. 2

If you hit the limit with Sendgrid would love it you then tried my service as a fellow IH 👊 I read your profile bio, I guess I’m on the same path, don’t know what the future holds
