Do you use a podcast transcription service?
I'm considering spinning up a quick podcast transcription service, and would like to know what you use to transcribe your podcast into text?
Background: I already work with a bunch of content writers for my other sites, and I figure it might be interesting to offer accurate, formatted, human transcription as a service. Although there are plenty of auto-transcription services out there, the accuracy is questionable, and they lack formatting.
So my questions are:
- Are you currently using a service to transcribe your podcast into text/blog form?
- If so, how do you like it?
- If not, what's stopping you?

Before you double down on your idea, you need to check out Descript. I was also looking for transcription-/blogpost-as-a-service but that's even one step further: The company offers pretty much anything a podcaster can wish for with regards to transcription as well as editing in one go and affordable still.

Their human transcription is still $1.25/minute, or USD $75/hour. I see that price and I think "there's margin here..."
But the fact that they bundle everything together is super compelling. Plus, their live editing --> voice feature is absurdly cool. And would be very tough to compete against.

Their human transcription is above the market indeed. But I must say that their automated transcripts are already really good and since most podcasts have to be edited anyway, you can just tweak the rest as you go.
I'm just starting out my podcast, but yes, I was considering manually using the transcript to re-purpose the content as blog posts.
For my first episode, I was experimenting with auphonic to transcribe because it also cleans up the audio quality before the transcription. That step seems to make the transcript really accurate.
Podreacher provides a service similar to the one you're thinking up, but it seems pretty expensive. I guess they're probably targeting the B2B crowd.
Overall I think it's a great idea, but you'll need to really consider your target market. Assuming a lot of people record their podcast as a hobby, they may not be willing to spend much on a manual service. On the other hand, targeting businesses who are looking for more ways to create SEO visible content sounds like something they would definitely pay for.

Yeah, Podreacher is exactly the sort of service I'd be going up against. I agree they are expensive and their margin would be my opportunity.

It was really good, but you've got a great point. My first episode was just me, so there was no back and forth between speakers. I'm also a fairly "clear speaking" American, so it had no accent to decipher. If you take those things away, who knows, their transcription quality may be terrible.
