Entrepreneurship Is Stupid!

I spent 5 years in the STUPID phase between 2008 and 2013. I founded my startup in 2008 with some cash and no idea. Was bankrupt by 2009 and that was really STUPID. Then in 2010 I started working on an accounting app while employed. By 2012 I had won a $15,000 in Apps4Africa and suddenly I was looking pretty smart. In 2013 that same app won $328,000 from www.fsdt.or.tz and everyone thought I was an ABSOLUTE GENIUS 😃

Don't give up... eventually the world PAYS you as a way to apologize for thinking you were stupid all those years while you slaved away to make a difference 💪

Hahahaha this just made my day Ryan, thanks for not taking yourself too seriously, it really really helps survive The Stupid Path :-)

I remember in 2010 when I first started working on my small business accounting system, my co-workers thought I was being stupid. In fact one of them said the logo for my product was idiotic. Six months later, I got my first paying customer after a 30 second demo during lunch...in front of those same co-workers. Stupid became awesome that day :-)

I hear you Rod! Fulfilment is such an important part of happiness and without happiness, people are usually willing to do many "stupid" things, one of which is entrepreneurship :-)

For the younger indie hackers out there, one of the reasons I used the word "stupid" in the title of this post comes from the fact that going 150% on everything is easy when you are young and I absolutely recommend people go all out in their youth. But past a certain age (around 30 I believe) you better make sure your hard work has paid off otherwise you WILL feel stupid in a way that is not fun or funny at all!

One way I motivate myself not to give up is to remind myself that if I give up then those who doubted me win - and it will be a cold day in hell before I give them that satisfaction, so the hustle continues :-)

Thanks for stopping by @gordon! Showing up each day really is the key to long-term success. When I don't feel like showing up, I usually ask: do you want your competitors to destroy you while you lay in bed like a loser? That usually gets me out of bed and back to the hustle real quick :-)

Because Stupid lasts so many years, it is important to know why you started the journey in the first place. I couldn't imagine doing anything else other than writing code in a stupidly heroic attempt to take over the world. Passion is the only friend that will stick with you until that other important friend (Money) decides to finally show up!
