Funding your company with retirement money

this product

Would anyone be interested in an article explaining how to fund your company with retirement funds? This is how I funded my company but it's not an option of which most people are aware.

Courtland suggested I post here before I write the article so please say yes :)

I’m interested! Found this thread by reading about Maverick from the Products page at IH, really interesting stuff. In addition to how one funds a company with retirement funds (does the company itself live within the retirement account?), I’d love to hear:

    • How you got started using Unbounce to validate demand
    • How else you find customers for a financial vehicle like this
    • Do you have any plans to get into the self-directed IRA market? I’ve used Strata (http://www.stratatrust.com/) for this and the setup experience has been brutal.
    • What the manual work you allude to in your company updates looked like and how you automated it
    • Any pain points, stories, or lessons from dealing with financial regulations or institutions
    • Who designed your site? (It looks great.)
    • Any other stories you have to share about building the company

Really neat business model and it looks like you’ve built up a nice stream of recurring revenue–congrats and best of luck with it!

Interested. Also interested in your company's journey, if you have time to elaborate -- the snippets on the products page seem very interesting!

Thanks! Are there any particular areas you are interested in learning more about?

Especially interested in how you validated with Unbounce, how you dealt with things in the early days before automation, and how you moved on to get it automated.

Re: Unbounce, I built a page that described the product that I was going to build - a no-hassle solo 401k - and that collected phone numbers. Then I'd close them by phone.

Re: automation, before I wrote the code to automate the whole process - and it was lots and lots of code - I manually filled out documents, made phone calls on client's behalf, anything it took to make certain they had a good experience.

In my closed mind, I would never touch my retirement funds. Between compound interest and having a safety net to ensure I can retire, it doesn't seem logical to me. I'm also not in my career where I would be willing to take such risks. I think.

Which is why you probably should write it. To educate readers like me on how you would do that safely. Of course, I'm in Canada... so my retirement structure is not based on 401K, but RRSPs giving me a steady return in safe investments.

So I'll say yes. For no other reason but to understand your views on how to do it. Learning is earning.
