Good examples of badges gamification?
A project I’m working on incorporates badges that the user can earn via account engagement and rewarded for skills.
I want the UX of these badges to really drive a sense of gamification - always striving to earn the next one or level-up on their current one.
What are some examples of sites doing this successfully?

Out of curiosity is there any chance you can describe the project? Or at least some aspect of it’s target audience.
Gamification can backfire pretty easily depending on the audience and their motivation - Intrinsic or extrinsic, for engaging with your product.. badges themselves will probably not drive the users if the context isn’t right.
I read a great book about gamification a while ago, I’ll dig up the title if you want?

Hey @Shaunau - Yeah, absolutely. The project is ProWriter https://www.indiehackers.com/product/prowriter.
The users are Writers who create a free portfolio and then earn badges based on their engagement with their portfolio (adding articles to it, # of visitors to it, etc) and then badges for skills and competencies (certified to write on an industry, large social following, etc).
There is a job board aspect to it as well where Employers take the badges into consideration so they hold weight beyond just being cosmetic.

From where I sit writing could go either way with regards to gamification, that is, people who write for the love of writing might be turned off where as people who are trying to build a habit of writing might embrace it!
The job board ads another twist... 🙃 micro credentials are reported to be a big deal in some very large & well know enterprises - I dunno if it’s true or not. Supposedly you need a badge to turn on your computer at some places 🤷♂️ (Joking).
I’d suggest reading “for the win: how gamification can revolutionise your business” to sanity check your ideas when it comes to badges, leaderboards etc. It’s a good book (quick easy/enjoyable read) and gives you a decent amount of food for thought.

is this gamification working? for me badges only disturbing my dashboards but I suppose it can be work in your case
We haven’t built in the badges yet. We need badges for the core of the product. But some badges are for credibility purposes and others will be to encourage engagement. We want to be smart about how we present both.
It's not the first thing which come to mind thinking about gamification but I really like the Personal Record System and Segments of Strava. Really keeps you locked in and craving for more. Definitely check it out and it might open your view about how gamification could look a bit more. 👍
