Hey IH-ers! I'm back with yet another idea. We all love automation so thought I would get IH's take on this.
Problem: Can I make previews of a podcast episode to get more people to click through and listen to the whole thing?
Solution: Produce little audio teasers that give me a taste of what the episode is about + make them videos so they're easily shareable by podcasters across social channels + make it all happen auto
matically-magically

We're thinking that we can watch podcast feeds and, as soon as a new episode is released, push 10-12 videos made from 3-4 automatically-selected "shareable moments" that are ready to share on Twitter, FB, IG, etc.
Thoughts? Would little teasers like this make you more likely to listen to a podcast?
I think this is a fantastic idea, I am just curious about how you pull out "Shareable moments" using ML magic. When I listen to Masters of Scale, the intro is always an amazing "Shareable moment". It seems that podcast creators have to listen to the episode over and over and decide on the best shareable moment. If this actually could save creators time by helping them come up with the best clip to share faster, I think this could be huge!
Thanks for the vote of confidence, Jaime! We look for moments in the podcast that most encapsulate the whole of it - the parts that most represent the main themes discussed.
We certainly don't get the "shareable moments" right every time, which is why we're actually producing 10-12 videos made from 3-4 moments that we've picked -- making it more likely that you get enough to share with your audiences across all your social channels.
How do you think we can get this in front of more podcasters to get their take on it?
I would hire someone on Fiverr that can get you a list of leads that have as part of their LinkedIn headline "Podcast Host" then I would automate cold email outreach with https://mailshake.com/ and see their responses. Hope this helps!
How do you automatically select shareable moments though?
That's where all the magic is! Unlike other audio automations that look for thing like laughter, excitement, tone of voice, etc. we're actually looking at finding thematic moments - sentences that capture or most represent the main themes communicated across the whole piece of audio.
Are you a podcaster yourself? Would love your thoughts -- a lot of services try to make video creation easier; we're trying to automate the whole thing start to finish.
Great idea! This actually came up in a chat I was having today doing some market research for my product - www.podse.io
I’ve been discussing many ideas of automation based on transcripts and audio clips. There are some competitors in this space - headliner was brought to my attention. But I don’t think any are automating this.
Hey! Podse looks great. We’ve built a little API to create these at scale. We could totally expose clip selection (and video creation) to you to integrate if you’re interested. Feels like a great fit.
As a listener, I like being able to preview some of the interesting parts of an episode - its a chance to pique my interest and get me to click through.
What we’d really like to explore with podcasters is how valuable automating this ad creative side is to them - 100% (clip selection through to optimized video assets), not just halfway.
In case anyone's wondering, here's how it works:
From the few podcasters I've talked to, most agreed that they can do this manually, but they're too lazy to actually listen through, pull out moments, transcribe, make a video and then finally post it.
I have no idea where to go to show other podcasters this though!
I'm very interested in trying this out!
I work with a few people who help people growth their podcasts, if your service works as you describe I bet they'd share it with their communities and clients. :)
That would be great! We’re looking for all the feedback we can get. What about this piqued your interest and what are you most excited for? Does it solve a particular problem you’ve been facing?
I’ll shoot you an email - Thanks Alex!
Sounds useful, if it doesn't turn into clickbait 🧐😁
Hmmm! What do you mean?
More or less a joke. Breaking down something that is long (article) into something short (headline) leads to clickbait.
Assuming you use actual snippets so it's probably fine 😁
Heheh yes! Actual snippets :)
That being said, the goal is to get people to click through to the full length podcast! 🤔😉
😱
Hi folks! Sending both a quick update and an ask!
We turned these podcast teasers into a service called Blurb.fm, and a few podcasts in the top 1% worldwide are using it to put their shareable highlight videos on autopilot!
We're experimenting with an app to use these highlights to make podcast discovery more fun (and efficient!). You were all so generous with your feedback early on (thank you!), and would love your thoughts on what we're building over on our post here: https://www.indiehackers.com/post/need-your-favourite-podcasts-to-populate-our-social-episode-discovery-app-954e04c14a
Please make sure to subscribe to our Product Hunt Upcoming list (one tap!) - we'll be sending out early access to everyone to help us improve the app before we tell the world about it.
