After a crazy amount of effort, we launched on HN last week to only get disappointed with the results. Our target users are in the US, so we submitted on Friday around 1 AM, hoping to gain traction in the morning and boy were we wrong.
By 7 AM, we were #9, and In total, 48 people visited our webpage. From there, 15 people downloaded the app, and 3 people signed up. We have 6 upvotes and one comment (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23649203).
I think your headline is very opaque. I saw it earlier today and didn't click on it because it seemed like yet another fitbit-like wristband that'll track my steps and offer "fun" games to make people exercise more.
@fxtentacle Thanks for the feedback, I agree headline was very opaque.
I think it's not about day of week, or time, it's about:
I launched my SaaS boilerplate very successfully (made #9) - see the full story here and had a lot of stars on Github.
See the graph here.
But! I believe it was just a bit of luck and a pinch of a good title. I changed it several times while I started thinking it was fitting for HN audience: just "Show HN: SaaS application boilerplate (github.com)"
Another factor that worked well I believe was the design. I completely redesigned the website and had a lot of good feedback. I think so because 2 years ago I launched the very first version of the boilerplate, the title was almost the same "Show HN: SaaS Idea Is Python SaaS Boilerplate (github.com)" but the design looked very amateurish and I had 3 points and 2 comments (one of them was from me :) against 107 points and 74(!) comments the last time.
And one very, very important thing is never share the HN link with others - they track this fact and your post will go down very fast.
