How I Grew My Indie Project Anifun AI from 0 to 500 Daily Visitors with SEO

Hi everyone, I’m an indie developer. In February this year, I launched Anifun AI — a set of AI tools for anime and manga fans.

At the beginning, the site had literally zero visitors for weeks. This was the hardest part — staring at an empty Google Analytics dashboard day after day, wondering if anyone would ever discover the project. With no budget for ads, I committed to growing it entirely through SEO.

Here’s how I went from 0 traffic to 500 daily visitors.

***Stage 1: From 0 → 100 (The Sandbox & First Breakthrough)

The early months were the toughest. For a long time, nothing happened — no clicks, no impressions. It felt like being trapped in Google’s sandbox. What I did during this “confusion stage”:

  1. Keyword Research
I focused on long-tail keywords around the “AI manga” niche instead of going after competitive terms. Examples:
    -AI manga colorizer
    -AI manga filter

  2. Every Feature = One SEO Page
Each tool I built got its own dedicated SEO-optimized page.
-AI manga colorizer tool → optimized for “manga colorizer”
-AI manga filter tool → optimized for “manga filter”
This way, every product feature doubled as a search entry point.

  3. Laying the SEO Foundation
-Improved load speed (CDN + image compression)
    -Optimized for mobile
-Precise meta titles, descriptions, and alt tags for every page

Finally, after nearly two months of nothing, traffic began to appear. By month 3, I hit 100 daily visitors — my first real milestone.

***Stage 2: Backlinks + Japanese SEO (100 → 300)

With some momentum, I needed to push further. Two things made the biggest difference:

  1. Backlink Building
-Shared my tools on Reddit, Quora, and anime forums → earned natural backlinks
-Guest posts and resource swaps with AI blogs
-Submitting Anifun AI to tool directories (some brought instant traffic)
I also optimized internal linking to pass more authority to core pages.

  2. Japanese SEO Pages
Since anime has a huge following in Japan, I created localized Japanese versions of my SEO pages.

As a result, daily traffic climbed steadily to 200–300 visitors.

***Stage 3: Traffic Breakthrough (300 → 500)
The real breakout came when Google began to fully trust the site.
-Core keywords entered the top 5
-Search Console impressions spiked, CTR improved
-User engagement metrics (time on site, bounce rate) improved, creating a positive loop

Within just a month, traffic jumped to 500 daily visitors.

***What’s Next

The next milestone is 2,000 daily visitors. My plan:
-Build out content clusters and topical authority pages
-Push further into multilingual SEO (e.g., Indonesian and Spanish)
-Light social promotion to complement SEO
