Hey,
So, I will most probably launch my first Saas by next week and as its development is just about to finish, I was looking for a logo idea. Like I have a logo idea in my mind but unsure how do I make it. And after wasting more than half a day on it I had some questions.
Is a logo worth spending time on?
Is there any nice and easy to use tool for it?
Also how important is a logo for a SaaS really?
Hey Tanish,
A logo is the backbone of your branding and it will help to be recognizable & memorizable. The SAAS market is pretty crowded you don't want to be "one more tool that does X".
My advice here is to not create a logo with some random generator, they won't help you in your branding strategy. If you don't have any budget go for https://www.colorsandfonts.com/ it's a free tool (by @Michael_Andreuzza) that provides a lot of nice color schemes, as well as font advice. And create a font-only logo.
If you have some budget then you should try https://www.logology.co or any freelance designer. It helps you to get consistent branding and a real logo.
DISCLAIMER: I'm the co-founder of Logology
Thanks Xavier, will look into them.
Thank you for the mention Xavier, I appreciate that.
Hey @TycoonHawk, let me know if I can help 8n any way with the colors.
Yea sure...And Definitely a great tool for getting some cool hex color codes
Of course, having a great logo is awesome and can surely help, but far from indispensable.
Also, we're going through a wave of very minimalist design: most logos are just the name of the company with a nice Sans font. Maybe you should give that a try until you can hire an actual designer and make the logo your company deserves 😉
I was struggling to create a good looking logo for one of my projects because my skills are limited. I didn't know about Looka before reading your post. I created a good looking logo in less than an hour. Thanks for sharing this.
that's really great!
No that's not ahahhaah :D
Sorry, I promise next time I'll suggest logology instead 😁
PS: love the website!
Glad you liked it!
Agree with all this. Something I’ve done a number of times is use a $2 icon from iconfinder.com as a logo and then tweak it a bit in a design tool like figma. Can be good enough for your MVP and you can always get something better made later on.
Great!! Thanks for your suggestions!! Will try the minimalist font idea.
I'll make you one for free it it helps you move on to some more important stuff :)
Hey Alessandro just made one from Canva for time being, but that's super kind of you. Thanks man
This is a mistake we usually make. Don't spend time on designing a logo. No body cares. Copy an icon and change colours from flaticon.com or design something really simple in canva.com. Good luck!
Pretty important. Yeah it takes time. It is a signal of your commitment.
I feel like I saw at least one logo generation service started by an IH person.
Edit: Found it!
https://logobly.com
Pretty important indeed!
You felt right, but there is more than 1 ;)
Somebody please do a mini compare/contrast between IH logo generating startups :)
That's a great idea! I can't do it but I'll be happy to help!
Thank You!! Checking it now
I use https://favicon.io/ to generate the logo faster.
Because we should focus more on the problems that we are going to solve.
Rather than a little gimmick like a logo.
I have just built https://sheepify.co you can generate a quick logo for free ( notion-like)
Seems those in the logo creation business think it is vital.
Unless your business is SaaS is logo design generation, it's no problem, unless it's so ugly you start losing users
How do you know if you loose users?
Keep it simple (it's actually harder than it seems). I downloaded a lightbulb emoji and use that as the logo on my site https://mindfold.co/ and it works well.
Squarespace has a great generator if you're looking to combine an icon with your brand name: https://www.squarespace.com/logo
Generally, using the online logo makers (most of them are mentioned in the comments) is a good start. It might surprise you how good some of them are. At the very least, it might trigger a light bulb moment. People often use these to get their creative juices flowing
I used one of those free logo makers just to have something and it turned out way better than I expected.
On most cases it's really not that important. However, it can be a corner stone for companies with a great branding culture.
If you don't care much about visual design and communication you have better things to spend time on. If your brand will be a whole part of your marketing, having a top of the class branding will be essential.
At the start just to have something on the top left corner, I usually just create something in an online logo generator.
I'm fond of Namecheap's one: https://www.namecheap.com/logo-maker/app/new
It's completely free and pumps out some quick and cool designs.
If a specific project takes off, then I will circle back and redesign it, or in this case - pay someone to do it (my design skills are atrocious).
Ohh!! Never tired. Thanks
Not just SAAS, who is serious about building a business, should take care of it.
It hits the subconscious connectivity with your brand.
Can't agree more!
