How is our new name? DID.

We recently asked Indie Hackers just how bad our Startup's name was and frankly, the response was overwhelming. Our old name is bad. Really bad! So, with a pinch of humilty and gratitude towards the IH community, we have decided to change our startup name before we get in too deep.

Introducing DID.

There are a few reasons why we have chosen DID:

  • Domains are difficult to come by, everything else we thought of had already been registered and we already own the domains featuring the word 'did' that we need.
  • DID is the recognised acronym for Digital Identity.
  • DID says exactly what we do without ambiguity. DID provides digital identities to users for a superior authentication experience.
  • DID is short.
  • DID is straightforward. We have concerns about building authenticity and trust with our audience so we really didn't want a name that potentially eroded that.
  • DID is easy to spell.
  • DID is easy to pronounce.
  • DID has very little in the way of SEO competition. Some of the other names we came up with already have a lot going on around on the SERP so DID is a slightly easier prospect in terms of creating an SEO strategy for it in the mid to long term.

We would love to know what you think of our new name. We haven't yet come up with a logo or started the process of swapping our old branding for the new so if you'd like to find out more about us, visit trykno.com.

What challenges have you faced when trying to name your startup?

Are there any other considerations we should add to our list above? I've only listed arguments for DID, there might be some against.

Thanks!

Richard and Peter

Not much time - DID is very nice. Iconic. Plays well with logo design and is memorable. RAP would have been a funny but already overloaded name for both of you 🙂

Only „problem„ I see is, that DID is the past form of DO. Not sure how well DID works on SEO. Maybe if you combine it with sub project/ product names

We own did.app so it's possible that all our branding could be around the whole "did.app" like "monday.com"
There is also the potential of the company being something longer like "DID Authentication"
