I have 100 on the backlog.
I'm working on only one.

My advice is working on 2-3 projects at a time, but having a main one. A little explanation:
1.) If you only work on one project, it can be boring working on the same thing all the time, you can get burned out easily.
2.) At times you have to wait for others to do their part... so instead of waiting and doing nothing, you can work on other projects if you have.

But I also have a completely different project that I can work on, when I am tired of the game. In my opinion it's good to have different kinds of projects becuse if they are the same, it's not really giving you the feeling of variety.

Working on 100s of projects is impossible. Of course I have a list of about 10 business ideas, but I am not working on them, I just have them in the pipeline and start focusing on them when I finished and outsourced a previous one.

Oh! Outsource or have an exit srategy. Don't end up working on your project forever. When it's done, hire someone to take care of it and move forward to the next one.

I feel personally attacked by this question.

3-4 of those with the potential to generate nice cash and the others are non-profit projects.

So just 1 for me.

Only 1. So that I can solely focus my undivided 100% attention on it. Making a project successful is already super hard in itself, so I have to go really deep or forget about succeeding. My 2 cents.

I have 5-6 projects on going. Nothing launched yet

Pick your priority. I have big vision on how I going to grow my project. I picked only set of functionalities to focus on them - even if other functionalities are more sexy and could bring more $, I want to finish what I started.

If I do today few tasks from first module, and tomorrow few from other - It would take years to complete everything. Focusing on single thing can speed up the go-to-market.

1. it wasn't always like this. but, i have seen infinitely-better results when i focus my time and attention into one, singular, important project.

but one is like 100 projects rolled up into one. In Better Sheets I'm helping others with their projects and continuously making new drops or experiments or projects within it.

The French have a saying "courir plusieurs lièvres à la fois", or in English "chasing too many hares and risking catching none."

I think that social media exposing us to outlier successes trigger FOMO in our brains, and we end up chasing too many things.

Finding the self-discipline to focus on one thing is a gift. One thing that has been a big help for me was to spend some time with myself to try and answer the question "what do I really, truly want, and why do I want that?"

Once I was able to answer this question, I was able to cut and stop distracting side projects, but they keep coming up and you end up having to actively de-escalate myself from starting them.

To many to count in the backlog! But I have 3 in the foreground.

1. log.fm (my podcast search engine and playlist generator app)
2. finbab.com (personal finance app for people, families, and freelancers)
3. fii.sh (url shortener)

I'm focusing all my efforts on peerpioneers.com right now.

4 total, but some are on "autopilot" and don't need too much attention.
I usually work on 2 different projects in a given week, but never on the same day.

I think it's totally fine to work on more than 1 project at a time, especially since indie hackers don't have a big marketing budget and it can take a while for a project to mature. However, there is something to be said for focused attention on one project at a time, which is why I prefer splitting the week evenly between 2 so that you have a couple days to get into a flow. It's also nice to do a transition from one project to another, helps keep things fresh and the time away can actually be helpful if you're stuck on something and need a random "aha" moment when you're least expecting it.

Two projects.

One is an HR Saas for my client.

The other one is my own project, Get Django SaaS

Technically i'm working on two, but I am only focusing on one right now. The one currently out of focus project is basically a means to propell the other one. However, I try not to work on both at the same time.

Currently working on 6 side-project, 4 of them are already launched

3 projects but I'm going to focus on 1 or 2 only:

• @Frontendor (launched)
• HeroCopy - free landing page text generator (not ready yet)
• A useless tool that took me 2 weeks of work (launched).

Apart to my full-time (soon to be: part-time) job and some freelancing on the side, I'm actively working on 2 projects.

Just one. All my energy, time and effort goes into it.

• on my current job which is a startup, there's where I put the majority of my effort. I really want it to become big, as I am to receive very soon stock options (~8 hours per day)
• on Amethyst Platform - my side project, I currently work on the MVP to launch (currently puttin ~1 hour of development per day).
• on a space-themed business/economy simulator game - progress is slow, I work on it now and then, when I don't feel like working on something else.
• my personal blog https://vladcalin.ro , made from scratch in nextjs as an exercise. I decided to just settle to one design and focus more on the content. (~1 hour during the weekend)
• I am working on some details on starting a tech consultancy for small and medium businesses in my region, as a side-gig, to get more intel into the business world (get access to real numbers, talk to real business owners, feel their pain, etc). I don't plan to do it for the money (I even plan to do some pro-bono sessions), but for the information and networking aspect of it (~1-2 hours in the weekend). I haven't launched, yet, I am currently incorporating my company.

I have some more dead side projects, but right now I try to focus only on these. I am spread pretty thin already

Well I am doing job so I am working on only one prototype during weekends.

I am working actively on three projects/products:
One brings the income in - self-funded/bootstrapped company with 500+ customers (8 hours a day)
Second - a product idea which I wanted to see built, outsourced and currently being developed, whilst me checking on the progress every now and then (1-2 hours a week)
Third - personal side project - time tracking app - which I am building in public alone and learning/playing with it - (0-4 hours a day).

The rest are in the backlog, waiting for any of the above to fail, or mature in my head. :)

I have 4 ideas to work on this year in addition to the day job. There wil be distractions along the way.

However, as I mature it has become clear that FOCUS is the success factor for me. In order to achieve that I serialize my projects into 1-month sprints.

Sprint 1 (January) just completed for Curabase, my bookmarking tool http://www.curabase.com

Sprint 2 (February) has been focused on my blog, simplecto.com -- where I improve the template/design, test the newsletter idea, cross-promote my other projects, and automate my marketing via RSS and MeetEdgar

Sprint 3 (March) I return to building a niche search engine for the Django Framework.

Sprint 4 (April) Maybe I do nothing or work on my livestreaming studio. Depends on the weather.

Plans change. If at anytime something needs attention (downtime, support, etc) I can do that. Otherwise I generally know what I'm working on today and tomorrow.

One main project (SaaS product), a second one because I care about sharing knowledge (https://dev-concepts.dev), and a third one sporadically for learning/staying up to date (4-5 hours per week)

Decide on one that's actually a business vs hobby/play.. work on as many fun projects you want but make one a focused business.
Well idk what stages they are and how much time you put into and such but if none generate money or growth, your just playing around for fun
