How to Execute Multiple Startup Ideas Simultaneously?
Recently, I have come to realize that I really need to focus on executing one startup idea at a time. So far so good in terms of progress compared to when I used to build three or four unrelated products at the same time. It has been really hard to let go of some of those ideas that I was very excited about. I still feel the urge of bringing some of them to life but I don't want to work on them full time and get distracted from my main project. This is why I came here! I am looking for other ways to execute these projects. If I had the money, I'd hire people to execute them but I don't. What would you do if you were in my situation?
Hi Ali! This is a great question, I’ve seen a number of folks who recommend launching a few small projects, and others who claim it’s a terrible idea and you should focus on just one.
I’ve typically been in the build-one-at-a-time group, but that hasn't found me a ton of success so far. Recently I’ve been considering putting out feelers for a few different ideas and seeing what gets interest/traction.
I think whether you go for one at a time or for multiple ideas, the key is to build as little as possible until you know whether what you’re building will have real value for real customers. Can you find strangers on the internet who are as excited about what you’re thinking about building as you are?
To that end, I just asked a question on IH about what hypotheses people are currently testing(https://www.indiehackers.com/post/what-hypothesis-are-you-testing-right-now-9a76ec7b78). I think being specific about what customer(s) we’re trying to serve, what their pain is, how we’re going to solve that pain, and how we’re going to reach that audience is absolutely fundamental to finding success.
Then we can ask ourselves what the smallest bit of work we can do to find out if we’re correct about each of those hypotheses, and get to work!
