How to find problems based on product reviews and start selling today [with example]

By analyzing reviews

Here's how I did it on Canny in 3 steps resulting in this feature list that you can steal to make a better Canny:

  • The search function should be improved to allow for partial word searches: This would make it easier to find specific feedback items and would make the tool more user-friendly.
  • The tool should be more customizable to allow for different types of feedback forms: This would allow the tool to be used for more specific purposes and would make it more beneficial for organizations needing an idea board.

1 - Find reviews

Make sure you find positive and negative ones preferable on websites like G2, Capterra, and Trustpilot. The highest quality reviews can be found on G2.

2 - Figure out why people wrote their review

This will help you spot patterns. In this case, there was no pattern because I only analyzed 3 reviews.

  • [Review 1] The tool is easy to use and has a clean interface
  • [Review 2] The tool is beneficial for organizing feedback
  • [Review 3] The tool has some drawbacks with its search function

3 - Figure out when unhappy customers would be happy

They often say it directly in their reviews.

Doing the 3 steps above manually would take you hours. Get the analysis above + marketing copy below on your (future) competitor above in your inbox here.

Don't build yet, sell!

Before you start building a solution, you should ideally try to get some pre-orders. One way to start selling is by cold-emailing here's an example.
