I launched my product recently but the traffic has been very low. I think the problem is its bad SEO. It's an AI writing tool. I tried to search keywords "AI writing", "AI content generation", or "AI writing tool" and I can't even find my site... My site is indeed indexed by Google but it just doesn't show in the search results.
This is my site: https://writableai.com
I don't know why its ranking is so low. What can I do to make it better? Thanks
What works for my side projects kind of:
Thank you, very helpful
It's very insightful! thank you for commenting. I really like the template generating idea! I might need to think how to implement it technically.
I think you shouldn’t seek SEO at the start, because SEO takes time to build.
Launch on platforms like Product Hunt, IndieHackers, Hackernews, and Twitter and get your first set of users from there.
For SEO, @kevinpeters_ has given a good list.
Regular content on your website will be the best starting point to build SEO.
You can then approach other bloggers for guest posts and reviews on your product and that will create more backlinks.
I think it makes sense to worry about SEO later. What bugs me is I barely can find my blog posts on Google even when I type 100 exact words from the post. I suspect my SEO is extremely bad now!
SEO is the long game. It takes time...required keyword research, content writing, backlinks, etc.
One "easy win" is just making sure the technical SEO is in place. Things like meta tags, ensuring the page is properly structured, alt tags, etc.
any checklists i can look into?
Check out this link that I've curated of all SEO strategies from indie founders
I started RubyOnRailsJobs 3 months ago and started straight away SEO optimization... I chose a bad name as a brand but quite good for SEO.
The only work I did was to respect HTML conventions, add meta title and description, and create a sitemap.
are there any tutorials for learning HTML convention. I think i am lacking that kind of knowledge
I learn a lot of stuff thanks to this free newsletter https://seofordevs.com/
Regarding html, add meta title, meta description, alt to images, h1 should be unique, canonical url.
thanks
Hey @PassionDev few quick tips as SEO is a huge field, so if you have only few min to learn SEO I'll focus on 2 things maybe 3:
Your website "On-Page SEO" (basicly as mentioned on @tridev comment) making sure your site is just properly structured and that google can actually "read it"
Quick tip, search in google site:writableai.com --> this will show u all the pages google "read" and indexed from ur site.
Content, you have built an "AI Writing Tool" right? --> why not use it to write (and maybe edit? and publish on your blog, one of the best SEO articles I have ever read re content generation for SEO is this:
https://www.buildersociety.com/threads/seo-avalanche-technique-ranking-with-no-resources.5114/
IF you have time, and interested to invest doing proper SEO (even without links/minimal amount of links) this thread is a must.
Good luck!
Awesome link, bookmarked that to read later!
Thank you so much! a lot of good things to read up now
Search results are tailored for individuals now so you may be in the top 10 for some people but not you. Best tool is the free Google Search Console to see where you are at. It is all you need. Plus put out useful content. Don’t be too hung up on keywords. Be hung up on helping humans. People don’t search for keywords except for super competitive stuff. People will mostly use long tail weird ass phrases and you can catch those more easily.
good suggestions!
This is really funny because most people seem to use AI writing tools to create content, to build links and jump up the rankings. So maybe... you should use your own tool to do that?
I did but i found that just writing articles won't get enough SEO
You'll need to work on your links, domain authority etc. to outrank other sites with similar content.
Thanks for the reply. Might I ask what "work on my links" mean?
Here's a good overview: https://ahrefs.com/blog/what-are-backlinks/
Basically the site Google deems most people link to on a topic will rank the best for it. There are other factors but that's a big one.
thanks

Broadly speaking, there are seven ranking signals for Search Engine Optimization (SEO):
✔️ Infrastructure: ~ 12-15%
This includes things like:
✔️ On-Site (Technical): ~ 7-10%
This includes things like:
✔️ On-Site (Content): ~ 18-21%
This includes things like:
✔️ Engagement: ~ 20-23%
This includes things like:
✔️ Off-Site (Links): ~ 18-21%
This includes things like:
✔️ Off-Site (Social): ~ 2-5%
This includes things like:
✔️ Off-Site (Local): ~ 10-13%
This includes things like:
The challenge is SEO is an ever-evolving field, meaning the weight of these ranking factors (and the individual tactics required to optimize each) changes as algorithms are updated. Furthermore, the exact weight of these ranking signals and supporting tactics isn't 100% known, as Google / Bing don't want to give away their "secret sauce."
That said, you can still find success with Search Engine Optimization, but as others have said, it takes time to start seeing results . . . 6-12 months on average.
If you're just getting started, check out the beginner's guide Backlinko or Moz wrote.
If you're looking for advanced training, check out Traffic Think Tank.
Just know that SEO may not be the best traction channel for you at this stage of growth.
thanks for the breadown
Just to add to all the great advice mentioned before - SEO takes a long time, so be patient! Time is your friend as Google takes more seriously websites that exist for a longer time to new ones. So all your SEO work will pay off probably a bit later than you are expecting.
indeed. time is our friend!

It can take a hot minute (weeks up to months) before Google actually ranks your pages...

Try these search engine alternatives
interesting angle to this problem!
I have given up on SEO for fabform.io. It makes no sense whatsoever why some companies rank on Google and others don't . Every SEO guru you talk to tells you a different story on how SEO works. SEO for us a lost cause.
I agree that SEO is not science but it's probably important if you don't have tons money for ads
Hi!
Following experiences I've had, I think you should improve domain authority (DA), domain rating (DR) and backlinks (very important).
These data let google and platforms know if your page is more or less notable, and backlinks help a lot to rank in google.
You can buy all this on platforms like Fiverr, and it is usually around $50 each service, depending on what you want to spend and the quality of the backlinks.
You can also get this only with a lot of work and time, but if you want to rank the best is to buy backlinks.
do you know how I can measure my backlink quality?
There are many free online pages that measure it for you.
For example: https://websiteseochecker.com/domain-authority-checker/
TB = total backlinks
QB = Quality Backlinks
thanks
Looking at your blog..
‘Why content marketing isn’t as hard as you think’
Who’s going to search those keywords? What keywords do you expect to get traffic from in this title?
Write content that people search for is my suggestion
thank you for the suggestion. I didn't think too much when creating this content. I guess i need to have a better strategy from now on
Scanned a few more of your article titles. For the titles, the English is poor. That'll hurt your rankings. Second, to go further, some of your titles are too broad, example: 'How Get More Users'. You need to narrow that down drastically in order to gain organic traffic. Hope that helps. If you want to discuss any of this further, let me know.
thanks! I read some SEO related posts today and yes, you're damn right
