I created my first Gumroad info product

On a whim I decided to create my first Gumroad info product, an epub & PDF of the first 10 articles I have written for Rosieland.

I started a paid newsletter a few months back and wondered whether I could package up some of the articles I've written to give people a taster of what I've been writing about.

I thought it would be interesting to see if people would be interested in the content as a one off payment, instead of being committed to regular payments.

Even though I talk about rosie.land as a paid newsletter, it's really a community, newsletter is just a part of it. There is a knowledgebase, weekly meetups, and soon a little forum too. I run it on Substack, but I decided to move away from that, hopefully in the next few weeks (which is why I have opted for a forum).

I thought it would take me an hour or so to edit the content into readable formats, but it ended taking me 4 hours or so. I used Ulysses, as I already had it, and it was pretty painless tbh, I just had a little bit of a learning curve to figure out how it all works.

I think I could do the editing next time in 2 hours.

Gumroad was super easy to set up, no more than 30 minutes to sort it all out.

I launched with a simple Tweet, I'll probably promote it to my free email subscribers on Monday and also add it to my knowledgebase for easy access for my paid subscribers.

So exciting! This looks amazing. Just purchased.

What software or service will you use instead of Substack?

Interesting experiment @rosiesherry! A bit off topic maybe, but; why move away from Substack at all? (I assume you keep doing the newsletter part) Just curious to your reasoning..

Turns out taxes are gonna be a real problem to calculate for me as a UK resident.

Also turns out I'd prefer to turn it into a community over a newsletter.

Makes sense. Curious to see how it evolves.

Smart move to repackage your content and quick execution as well! Curious how it will be picked up

That's awesome, Rosie. Do let us know how your existing subs respond to it.

Congrats! Keep us updated on how this goes! I’ve incorporated content from my newsletter into an eBook before and had decent success!

Wow. Would love to see the numbers after a few days. But looks to be an interesting experiment.

Curious about this, too! I'm also planning to offer articles and mini-ebook-length guides for Blogging for Devs community members, but like you I also wondered if people might want to buy some of the stuff one-off. Would love to hear how it goes!

Can you report back to us after a few days? Would love to see the numbers and hear how it goes!
