I moved to a new city and couldn’t find local founders…so I built this website

When I first moved to the UK, I felt completely lost.

Who were the founders living nearby? What were they building?

Was anyone else building something solo in a coffee shop like me?

I ended up joining a coworking space (Google Campus) and met some amazing people. But it took time, money, and a lot of luck.

Now, after 8 years abroad, I’m back in my home country in Brazil. And guess what? The same problem is back.

I have no idea which founders are around me. People I could meet, learn from, or even collaborate with.

So I built FoundersAround.com

It’s a simple map that shows you:

  • Which founders are nearby

  • What they’re working on

  • Who’s open to meeting up

People have already met in real life, in 2 or 3 different places.

This is a great initiative! Your platform makes it so much easier to discover and connect with local founders—I’ve already spent a while exploring and really enjoyed it.

To make it even better, I think getting more founders to register would help everyone find more connections and value here. Maybe some outreach or partnerships with local startup groups could help boost sign-ups?

Keep up the good work—looking forward to seeing this community grow!

This really resonates — I’m also someone building solo and often find it hard to connect with like-minded founders unless I stumble across the right community by luck.

The idea of mapping people who are actively building and open to connecting is simple but powerful. It bridges that isolation so many solo founders quietly deal with.

Huge respect for solving a problem you personally felt — that always leads to the most honest products. Looking forward to exploring and hopefully meeting a few folks through this.

Have you pinned youself on the map?

not yet, but I'll do it for sure :)

Love how you turned isolation into innovation! This is the kind of builder mindset that makes the indie community thrive

The founder isolation is slowly getting to me, and this morning I was just thinking about getting a co-working office space. This looks interesting though.
Are you thinking about adding other federated logins other than Twitter/X?

    1. 2

Yes my idea is to login with gmail and linkedin as well

Have you added youself to the platform?

      1. 1

Not yet, I was looking for a quick option, but I'll just go by email. :-)

That's a good idea and how does the website work

Love this initiative. You should post FoundersAround on BusinessHunt.co too. It’s a platform built for discovering and launching ventures, and your project could help even more founders connect and collaborate globally.

Really cool idea! I guess it would be extremely useful if it got broader. Finding people who share the same path is hard, especially for introverts like me :( Would be nice to see something like this become popular!

Thank you Daniel. Feel free to join. There are another ones from Milan as well

This initiatives are always nice! For me it works to check the Meetup website and look for founders (or the kind) meetups.. there are always some where I live (I live in Barcelona - probably not a hard place to find founders tho)

What I don't like about meetups is that I don't know the other founders or who's going to any event. The idea with my website is, you arrange the meetings. you see who's around and message them. Straight forward

As a solo founder myself, I feel your pain. Thank you for building a platform that might actually help!
