I Spent $35,000 on a “Typo Domain.” Good or Bad Investment?
After spending an “unreasonable” amount of cash on a typo domain six months ago, here’s my ROI and the lessons learned.

This is very obvious step to take. My company names is HikeOrders. I won both HikeOrders.com and HikeOrder.com ( plural and singular ) .
When you go to HikeOrder.com it gets redirected to HikeOrders.com
Buying the non-plural, well done. Do you measure how much that domain contributes to revenue?
Actually it was not purchased for revenue purpose. Instead it was purchased to avoid scammers using similar looking domain and cheat my customers in some way.
I first purchased HikeOrders.com. Then after a week, I decided to purchase HikeOrder.com as well to be on safer side.
In the end, the domain purchase is really a customer service. It seems very likely people entering that into their browser are really looking for HikeOrders.com, you're saving them time as well.
Thats totally absurd i bought my business domain for website apkcroc few years ago for only $12 i guess

Hubspot CTO Dharmesh Shah just spent over 10 million on a domain that he isn't sure what he is going to use for. Domains can be an investment. Imagine going back to the 90s, buying 1,000 single-word dot coms, holding them for 20 years, and selling them for millions.

Wow, took a big bet but it paid off. Definitely says a lot about always testing and always go with your gut, don't listen to negativity. Congrats!!
Very interesting, the fact that after spending 35000 dollars which actually seems like a crazy decision turned out to work well for you. I never realised that incorrect domains where actually a huge problem. that's crazy.
Do you think it makes sense to buy a bunch of sibling urls off the bat if they are cheap? Or would you wait for a clear data-driven decision like in your story? If you could go back earlier and blindly buy this domain would you have?
yeah thats what i was thinking too. While starting up the business, if someone is serious about it, might just be worth it to buy a bunch of sibling URLs rather than wait. It could just get more expensive later.
