Working on the Automation Cookbook, a newsletter for entrepreneurs about automating their business processes.
My goal is to find readers that want to do this. One source is from indie hackers. While my IH posts (example), get click-thrus, I'm not getting subscribers.
If indie hackers are clicking through, it means you guys want to know more, but something on the landing page is deterring you from subscribing. What am I missing?
All of this is said with love, because what you’re doing is hard, labor intensive and valuable.
Your subtitle is ... blah ... Maybe something more like: “Automate your process, grow your business.” Also, for a newsletter I want to know the cadence: daily, weekly?
“Cookbook” doesn’t cause me to expect a newsletter. So that’s instantly confusing.
2a) Site presents like a blog, not a newsletter
The title section looks super generic. Photo? Logo? Colors? Font?
It doesn’t give me a reason to put you in my inbox. Can you package some of your content into a “Top 9 Automation Techniques Every Entrepreneur Needs to Know” as a free ebook for signing up?
Currently the second piece of content on your page is about what not to automate. Off brand.
Do you have someone no can read your copy for you and be super mean? You need more editing.
The site doesn’t have a bio, a last name, an about us, anything. You need to give us a sense of who you are/why we should listen. Looks from your bio On Twitter that you have a good story to tell about who you are.
Great! Thanks for taking the time to write the feedback.
Some follow up questions:
2. "“Cookbook” doesn’t cause me to expect a newsletter enter. " what does this sentence mean?
2a. What would make it look more like a newsletter? Is it a list format, like on Substack? https://www.exponentialview.co/ Or that it asks you to subscribe first?
Re: copy, do you mean just the headlines / extract, or even the content / everything?
Ah, yes, I did notice people click on the authors link. I'll defn put something in the bio.
Sorry the “enter” was some kind of errant autocorrect thing I missed. I’ll edit that.
On the design front: you could go full Substack... but I don’t know whether that’s important. (Honestly, I haven’t seen any hard data either way.)
Putting “newsletter” in the subtitle would help. Some kind of nod to “issues” or “editions” (or whatever) on the posts could underscore it.
As to your copy, I was mostly thinking about the headlines and subheads. (It’s never a bad idea to get more eyes on all of it, of course.)
I've yet to do the rest.
Try to convert your page to a list like as a Notion Table (for example take inspiration from this guy) - indiehackers like lists a lot! (or at least try to see if the bounce rate decreases)
What's a notion table? Did you mean to add a link? Which guy were you referring to?
yeah but I couldn't find the guy.
Notion is a tool that lets you use stuff like Excel but with superpowers. Just a quick search might be able to help - check it down here https://www.indiehackers.com/group/notion
