I've been looking at 'just starting' with a single product oriented drop shipping store to learn some ropes about supplier management, ordering, business structuring and a whole lot of other stuff I'm sure I'll pick up along the way. But as I research different products, it seems the margins are extremely slim and it would seem like it'd be extremely hard to gain traction for a single product just through ads. Especially with anti-china sentiment and almost 2 months shipping time to Australia right now it seems like there would hardly be any point to do it.
Have any of you found the same thing? Or the opposite? Is it better now to find Australian suppliers of products? It doesn't seem like there are many that dropship (or, they're really hard to find, or sell things at close to retail price anyways).
Just wondering where else is a good place to start.

Dropshipping is definitely not dead but many niches have now a very high amount of competition and standing out becomes harder and harder. I recommend you start with a general store to test out marketing different products, and then move to a one product store.
I'd be interested in your feedback on my idea:
