Is having an audience on social media an illusion?
I have an active presence on Twitter with over 7400+ followers
It took me quite a while to get here (12 months) as I didn't crank out viral threads but instead chose to share my journey as a solopreneur as authentic as possible
I chose to share my journey on Twitter mainly to create brand awareness for my product Famewall and to occasionally generate leads
But I still feel like posting on Twitter & getting exposure to the tweets is not as easy as most influencers make it seem.
A few months back, I too launched a PDF guide & made sales. It was specifically for those building their presence on Twitter but I stopped selling it after Elon took over Twitter & made the code open source. Since that seemed more helpful than the guide
Even with a sizeable following, some of my tweets don't get much traction while some do well. It seems like a hit-and-miss where you end up bending to the will of the algorithm.
Not to mention the time you need to devote to actively reply to tweets and also engage with others while sharing something useful. In fact, we've seen some well-known creators on Twitter who got burnt out in this endless cycle.
Don't get me wrong, other distribution channels like SEO would have a similar effect with the algo changes but it's quite more profound with social media
As a business owner, how do you see using social media to get customers? And what other channels have worked relatively well for you?

I would second the previous comment from @TheBLUNTMethod though. If your audience on X is only other scrappy indie hackers, then you'd be hope that you are building a product for them, because otherwise they will be able to provide support in your entrepreneurial journey but I don't know if you'be able to sell much through them.
Quality is as important as quantity. Make sure you reach your 'target' audience, not 'any' audience.
Yep you're right. But also it might be challenging to attract your target audience on Twitter if you have an existing audience of IHers

Followers don't mean much if they aren't your target audience.
Don't build your house on other peoples land.
If your goal is to build a successful business with paying customers then yeah Iād say that the audience size is an illusion.

That's a valid point actually. That's why I stopped chasing follower count as metric once I hit 1K

I haven't ventured much into FB groups, but I'm seeing some engagement on Reddit. I'm still in the very early stages of exploring. How about you? What SEO tools are working best for you?
