Landing page feedback

I've just launched the landing page for my upcoming course about Knowledge Management. I'd love to get some feedback about it.

What's missing? What's too short, too long, unclear, etc?

Here's the link: https://knowledge-management-for-beginners.com

Thanks!

Subconsciously it's hard to read, moving pattern makes it difficult. More simple white space should be good choice. Also too many colours used in text makes it look little bit spammy, The button doesn't stand out it blends with background. Fixing this things should give you ideally good performing page. Focus on Copy + Simple readability structure + Simple design. And you will be good to go.

I agree. I've removed the red and green colors. A friend recommended those to me, but it didn't feel right. I'm going to try to add white space and simplify.

      Thanks!

I run a design agency and build landing pages as well, If there is a need, would love to design a landing page for you. my twitter is @DesignGuyHere.

Do customers know what knowledge management is before coming to your page? If so, you are good. if not, you may want to clearly define it and it should be aspirational for your target audience.

    1. 1

Since I target beginners, I suppose many won't know what it is. The goal of the course is also to explain it. People that are already part of my audience will know since I keep writing about this topic.

So yes, I probably need to explain it clearly. Thanks!

Hey Sébastien, congrats on launching the waitlist for your new course!

I love offering feedback on apps/websites/landing pages, and helping founders, like yourself, design beautiful and high converting software. Here are a few notes that I jotted down:

    Comments I agree with
@alpinerob makes a great point about the green and red text. I'll talk more about this below. Mr. Apline also points out the overall lack of clarity in what you're trying to sell. His advice is gold.
@hatkyinc hits the nail on the head, as always.

    Things I loved 💜

    • Fun 3d effect gives the landing page (LP) some motion. It's not distracting, and offers a nice touch.
    • Good use of section scroll buttons. This clearly draws the user from section to section. Most sections are nicely framed within my viewport on desktop and mobile.
    • It's an interesting idea! There does seem to be a societal trend towards becoming more organized with your learning & productivity. I think a course like this could help people implement different systems to increase their clarity of thought.

Things that could be improved 🧐

Copy (clearly call out problems and benefits)

    • You reiterate the name of your course twice in the hero section (logo and h1 text), and you talk briefly about the solution (a video course) in the sub text, but the problem is missing from this section.
      • Suggestion: try moving the headline “Transform your life through effective Knowledge Management” up to this section. It more clearly identifies the benefit of buying your course (transform your life).
        • Example(Ex) problem statement: “Tired of forgetting everything that you’ve learned?”
        • Ex solution statement: "The KMfB video course teaches you our groundbreaking system to manage your knowledge”
    • In the third section “Leverage your knowledge”, you use red and green text color to highlight benefits that you get and problems that potential customers are having.
      • Suggestion: Remove the green and red. It doesn’t fit the color scheme of the rest of the page and makes it look unprofessional.
        • If you do want to use a color to highlight words, pick one from your existing palette (purple-pink gradient)
      • Suggestion: change the H1 in this section to tell visitors that benefits are going to be listed
        • Ex: “Take your knowledge to the next level”
        • Ex: “Benefits of the KMfB system”
      • I would change this section to be one list of positive benefits of your product. I see words like “Increase”, “Accelerate”, “Overcome”, and “Reduce” as all positive outcomes of using your product.
        • Don’t bold words on every line. It loses meaning when you use too much bold.
          • Pick 2-3 lines or words that you really want people to read and highlight those.
          • If you are looking for specific words to highlight, I would highlight positive verbs.(“Increase”, “Accelerate”, etc)
        • Suggestion: Reduce the number of benefits to 5-8

How it works (what's included in the course)

    • The sections 4-13 (if I counted right) all seem to be talking about how your course will work.
      • There is too much scrolling here and it gets confusing.
      • I had to force myself to scroll from section to section to read all of them.
      • I think most people would lose interest after the first couple and then bail before making a purchase.
      • Suggestion: Consolidate all of these sections into one section that either says “What you will learn in the course” or “Course topics/chapters”

    Trust

    • When you click on "Buy Now", you get redirected to a gumroad page that has an extra item in the cart (Fullstack D3: Advanced Package)
      • The customer did intend to purchase the “Fullstack D3: Advanced Package”.
      • This erodes trust.
      • This feels like an attempt to sneak something into the cart without my knowledge, and it made me question my purchase of KMfB.
      • Could you imagine if Amazon added an extra $129 item to your cart when you are just trying to buy batteries?
    • Along the lines of trust, the page is devoid of any social proof or testimonials.
      • This can be tough when you are pre-selling a course that doesn't exist yet, so I would try to include testimonials about you, as the course creator, and not the course itself.

Overall, there is a lot to like about the design of your page. I think that if you more clearly describe the problem you are solving, talk more about the benefits & features of your course, and immediately remove the extra item from the cart, then you will be well on your way to selling more courses!

    Cheers mate

Hello Scott. Thanks a ton for all this valuable feedback!

I've tried to follow your advice to improve the landing page.
I've removed the colors, bold text, regrouped numerous sections, etc.

It indeed feels much simpler now!

Around trust, I think I will add a section about who I am and what I have already done in the field, this will probably help.

For the checkout process, unfortunately it's due to the way Gumroad works. If you add a product to your Gumroad cart, go to another product and add it to your cart ,you end up seeing both. It's like a distributed amazon cart... I don't have control over that. Also, Gumroad automatically suggests other products you could add during the checkout. I'm thinking about giving LemonSqueezy a try. Maybe they don't have those kinds of features.

      1. 2

Hey Sébastien. I want to apologize about the cart thing! I think you are right, it's probably something that I looked at a while ago that stayed in my cookies.

I just checked the updates, and I really like the changes. One little thing I would add in is a max-width for the bottom couple of sections. The copy in these sections spreads to almost the entire width of the screen, which can make sentences tough to read.

Good luck on any future changes!

        1. 1

Thanks again Scott! You rock! :)

  4. 2

Looks great! The only visual change I would suggest is changing the hue of the green and red to match the overall feel. They feel a bit out of place to me.

But I do think the main thing is a lack of clarity. I don't exactly know what you are trying to sell. This is something every business struggles with so you are not alone! The best way I've found to do this is to test it with potential customers. They should be able to know what your company does with just reading your headline.

    Best of luck!

    1. 1

Yeah, I followed the idea of a friend for that, but it didn't feel right.

I've tried to be clearer about the offering. Hopefully it's better now :p

  5. 2

Design wise it's the prettiest page I've seen in a while or even ever. In terms of moving me a mental/emotional/sales process, I don't feel the copy, image selection ect is doing what's needed, I feel like your SEO word stuffing/keyword dropping than actually selling

    1. 1

I agree. I'm still a newbie when it comes to copywriting ;-)

  6. 1

It is unclear for ‘what kind of users’ the course is - it could be professional, university students, tech bros etc.

Is it tool digital tool specific like - notion, obsidian, roam resarch etc, or plain apple notebook or google notebook, or analog (pen & paper).

Each section feels generic or essentially same. It does need to feel different.
The hero section is most important section. The USP, Benefits, product definition, CTA should need to be there.

Buttons/CTAs are not clear enough for users to differentiate.

Your users are looking for more specific ways to organize their knowledge. You need to show a glimpse of it. Every copy feels like it’s selling.

    Add user testimonials.

Add quantitative numbers so users can measure.

Add the amount of the product. Then run an anchor price discount.

The cta should be sticky bar. So, whenever the user feels convinced enough they can go for the purchase.

The images are dull. Add more metaphoric images.

Aesthetically, It’s simple. But it would be better if the background is in white & the text in black. Most the digital editor are like that. So essentially it would feel like extension of the digital tool.

Copy can be hugely improved. Others’ recommendation might work. Else, do a/b testing & check the results.
