Landing Page Revamp Based On Indie Hackers Feedback

A few weeks ago @genemachine was super helpful and posted this thread offering to give first impressions feedback of the landing page of anyone who posted in the thread: https://indiehackers.com/post/ill-review-your-landing-page-for-free-and-make-a-first-impressions-video-45e41b8195

I believe Gene provided feedback on over 80 landing pages, including my own.

Here's the video Gene recorded of his first impressions feedback on my landing page: https://www.loom.com/share/b16de4990c88477197422266653d3921

I believe I've now worked through all of Gene's feedback, and I would love it if you'd all take a look at the updated landing page and let me know what you think! https://nullbox.co/

There's always room for refinement and improvement, but I feel like it's already a significant step forward.

I watched the video from Gene that you linked to, your new website looks much better IMO. I especially like the explainer video which makes it easy to understand the product and the benefits that it provides.

Do you mind if I ask who created the explainer video?

    1. 2

Yeah, I'm so happy with how that explainer video came out! I'd be happy to share, I got it created through this gig on Fiverr https://www.fiverr.com/pixizard/create-2d-explainer-video-for-your-business-or-product

I think they raised their gig rate after making my video so I was lucky to take the chance on them when I did. I got mine done at their premium tier for a steal compared to their current price. Of course, compared to what I've seen some other folks on here mention of paying ~$2k for videos it's still a great deal.

This looks great, thanks for sharing!

    Hi Chris,

I've got a video, and the feedback is a bit different than what you'd expect:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ogh1n_bBMuo

I run through your site with the eyes of people that are experiencing a situation your app seems to be the answer to.

I do so three times, using three "enough-is-enough" situations that, I think, would cause someone to reach for a solution like nullbox:

    1. I just got one-too-many spam emails...
    2. I read the news about yet another data breach...
    3. My life is on the line...

In the end, I recommend discarding trying to serve situation #1 through your site, but I do suggest you make changes for situations #2 and #3. You'll see what I mean.

If you think I'm in the wrong for something (you know your audience better than I do), please correct me. Hope that helps.

I'm working through the feedback and will be sure to tag you in a follow up when I've implemented your advice. In the meantime, I just wanted to call out that I can't thank you enough for how incredibly helpful your analysis and feedback is. Your user problem-focused review is precisely the next level of deep dive I needed to keep moving forward.

I've certainly needed the aesthetic and copy focused help I've gotten previously to help craft a landing page that didn't drive people away. But your market breakdown is what I need to go the next step and have a landing page that actively drives conversions. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this!

great to hear, please share back as you go through it!

Hi @csotherden - Great product. I understand the value immediately.

Your h1, "Protect your inbox with disposable email aliases", is clear and action oriented.

    Some suggestions:

    1. Give examples of how the user gets value.
I don't know what "high performance" means. And I don't care, as a user, how scalable your infrastructure is. I only care about the impact to me. So for example, you could replace that whole part with, "Keeps working when you receive large volumes of email."

I don't know what "Easy Management" means. I suggest replacing that with the text below it: "Create aliases from your phone or desktop computer."

I'm not sure what this means: "Protect yourself by locking down your online identity behind NullBox aliases." Instead of that, I suggest the following: "Use a different email alias to access each of your accounts so that if hackers obtain an email address for 1 account, they will not be able to hack in to your other accounts."

    --

I really like the statistics on email hacking. I think you can make this even more powerful with personalized examples. For instance:
    "If you have:

    • Used the same email address to log in to multiple accounts,
    • Used that email address to sign up for mailing lists,
    • Given your email address to companies that sell your data, such as ____, ___, or ___,
...then you are at risk. As you read this, hackers are trying to access your accounts.
      Protect yourself with NullBox.

@csotherden, what do you think about these suggestions?

If they're helpful, then you may like my website SplashPad (https://getsplashpad.com). SplashPad helps you write about your product in ways that attract attention and sell by suggesting language while you write. Our current version focuses on sending marketing emails, and soon we will release functionality to help you write landing page copy.

That's great feedback, thank you! You're right, I haven't liked that "Why Use NullBox?" section much myself either. I feel like having a prominent section like that is important, but the copy itself is very compelling right now. This is great feedback on how to rewrite it to actually be meaningful to the user.

I'll also definitely check out SplashPad!

Hey Chris! I just looked at the new page and it looks a lot more clear! Nice job! I like the headline and the video right there to explain it. I feel like this is a vast improvement! Also love that you are highlighting how much people are saving on the annual plan by bringing that out. The section on why I should use this service is also nice!

    1. 1

Thanks, Gene, your feedback was super helpful! You did a huge service to the community providing all that feedback to everyone. I hope everyone has been taking action on it to improve their landing pages.

  5. 2

hey Chris I did a personalized video to review your page, I hope it's harsh enough that it will give you a good idea of what you'd have to change to improve your conversion
    https://youtu.be/TlOExGh1kYA

    1. 1

Thanks a lot for taking the time to do that. Harsh sounds perfect to me right now, I'm really trying to refine the messaging around the app right now so that it'll be worthwhile to actually focus on promoting. There'd be nothing worse than investing a bunch of effort (let alone money) promoting it to achieve zero conversions!

Let me know if I can help further, I can review the actual app behind the landing page if you want (at some point)
