My first experience with a freelancer

Hi all,

In the last two weeks, I was working with a freelancer closely for Watchphile animation video. But working with a freelancer was harder than I expected. Sometimes I felt stuck and didn't know what to do. So I thought it might be useful for me & others to hear about others experience working with a freelancer.

My experience;
πŸ’š Something went well
βž™ I could reach lots of great freelancers on Upwork, Fiverr
βž™ Get in contact with them easily and they respond quickly
😢 Something could have been done better
βž™ I spent lots of time finding the relevant freelancer
βž™ I could've spent less time talking with the freelancers because I had to write the same thing several times because I did not prepare the document
πŸ’‘ What did I learn?
βž™ Before contacting the freelancer, I should prepare a document that shows what I want with all details, my budget etc.
βž™ I should add every point on the document because no one can read my mind
βž™ Delivery time could be extended, so you should consider that on planning

Please, share your experience with me!

Thanks

freelance work is working only when you have clearly defined goals and payment is link to achieving them or when you find a good freelancer that will do what you need not just what you want them to do.
problem is that a lot of people assume that freelancer = specialist, in 95% of cases that is not true, freelancers are mostly people with a skill that sell their time and the skill level is usually overestimated, so if your task is very clearly defined and ideally it is something that have a globally understood expectations you are going to have very good experience working with freelancers.
the other most unlikely thing to happen is if you find a freelancer that is a real specialist in the thing you want them to do, then even if your task definition is not very clear (and what you think is clear definition is usually not at all) you will get exactly what you need.

I've used freelancers a handful of times now for various tasks for Zlappo, mostly design.

On the whole, I've been happy with their work and the hiring process.

I only use r/forhire on Reddit exclusively because it's free.

The key is to be super-specific on what you want, even better if you could provide images and videos.

You tend to also get better submissions from relevant freelancers if you're specific about what you're looking for.
