My first Shopify App, please critique

After months of working part-time on my first Shopify App FestivalKing Spin Wheel https://apps.shopify.com/festival-king

It has finally been approved. I had one rejection. They did give very specific feedback on what needed to be fixed.

Shopify has gone through many updates with its documentation. It wasn't that straightforward to figure out all the technical resources needed to finish the app.

The application allows the merchant to use the discount spin wheel to allow the visitor to enter their email address for entry. I thought this was an interesting space to tackle because visitors are more likely to give out their emails if there is a game to play.

It's been two weeks since launch. Got some traffic, but no conversion yet.

Would love some feedback from the community.

Thanks, everyone

    Hi JohnK,

The idea is pretty interesting. I mean most e-commerce do give discount. Since nothing changes, why not make the user feel like they are lucky today?

I think you can do some work on the design:

    • The landing page looks a bit too amateurish and a bit scammie to be honest. I guess is the image of the king and random colour selection.

    • The actual application is simple. I think it needs a better design. More playfulness and to make it obvious that there is something for the user to click.

Overall I think it needs more elegance/playfulness in terms of the design so it can look professional for someone to pay for the product.

By the way, how often can a user play? Is it 1 time per email and for how long?

But all in all it is pretty interesting. Good job!

Thanks for the detailed feedback @theanamoura,

The landing page does look a bit amateurish and plain. I am not a professional designer, should probably find a professional to work on the look and feel of the site.

Yes, it's 1 time per email per spin.

Sure no problem. Yeah get a designer to help you out and test it again. All the best!

    Congrats on launching!
Do you have any testimonials or case studies from the early users? It an help you get more signups

      Do people still believe testimonials?

thanks, @premsaini , will try to reach out to users. I did notice that the response rate is quite low in some cases

Hi JohnK. I checked out the app, and tried the demo. Here a few small comments:

    • the design could be more snazzy/festive
    • after spinning, I won a coupon.. but the subtext is 'undefined'

Would it be possible for your app to adjust itself to the clients' shop css? That way it could possibly integrate better into their design.

      thanks for the feedback @ThomasW81

Great idea with the dynamic CSS. It would be a bit challenging to adjust to clients' shops dynamically. An option to allow merchants to modify the colour in the dashboard would be more feasible.

As to the undefined issue, I just fixed it.

Looks great, the only think I noticed is when I click "festivalking-demo" and then on the spin wheel, The spin Wheel looks empty without any content. Just a gray circle. I am using chrome as browser

      thanks for trying.

Just fixed the issue, if you would do a hard refresh. It should display the spin wheel properly

    Add HQ photos.

Write less text in ur description.

    Get social proof.

Market it on twitter in buildinpublic to get some users
