Having second thoughts on my app name, looking for some fresh ideas. It is a stock trading journal that helps you review your trades and make yourself a better trader. It's currently called Sluicebox. The original thought was symbolism based on a sluicebox being used to separate the gold from dirt.
How can I help you? Perhaps sorting out a development problem, or giving design/marketing feedback? Seriously! I'd love to help you with something. Put my skills to work by responding!
Which names or concepts do you think of when you think of an app like mine?
Here are some I thought of:
Concepts:
Names:
What's your app called? Post it! How can I help you with it?
If you ask me to pick a name, I would love to choose Tradefox. It's catchy and easy to remember.
But if you ask me a name to suggest, tracktix or tractix would be suitable too. It means tracking the ticks.
I don't have app yet. App is too complicated to build.
Hey clinkz -- thanks for your input! I like the tractix suggestion you made in particular. What do you find to be too complicated in building an app?
May I suggest being a bit more bold with your naming? Yes Tradefox, Tradehawk etc. make it clear what your product is and you could have a cute logo.
But look at the crypto trading platform Robinhood, that name really says, this is going to make you richer.
Imagine a name like Plutus, god of money.
Anywya just some thoughts, my app is called Portabella and I just came up with the name then ran with it
Great thoughts Alex! I think being bold could garner a lot of attention in the (often boring) financial niche.
Portabella looks like a great product!
A few thoughts on the landing page:
Hope some of that is helpful!
Thanks! That is some amazing feedback. Going to implement your feedback over the weekend. I've just switched over to a static site generator so some pages are definitely still under construction.
Where exactly would you put the colored border, around the navbar? Around the whole hero section? Around just the text of the hero? Sorry just struggling to see what you mean.
That was just one idea to spice it up. Take a look at the very top of the page in the link below, there's a little teal border. (This is an old, dead project of mine that needs to be taken offline). I'd say use your brand color and make it solid (not a gradient like this one). Like I said though, just one idea to spice it up, maybe a pattern or some other way to introduce some color to the hero area would fit your brand better -- totally up to you!

Another example of this is actually on stackoverflow with the orange border on top.

Hi Austen,
Naming is pretty hard, english is not my mother tongue I did get the meaning of Sluicebox. I like Tradehawk!
My few ideas :
My app is Logology, it's the logo maker for design lovers. I'd like to have your feedback on our homepage and we just updated the UX of the logo proposal list. Lemme know what you think about it!
I thought of one more thing that would be a great addition -- if you could change the primary color once the logos were generated. This way if people have a brand color (or one in mind) they could easily tweak the logos a little bit to better match what they're thinking!
Xavier, love the ideas, and thank you very much for taking the time to contribute!
