People who are using an open-source model, I'd love to hear your story.
I recently launched Bear Blog as a completely open-sourced project with an MIT license: Github link
It seems to have brought in a decent few people (currently about 1700 blogs running on https://bearblog.dev) and I have had a couple of contributions to the project. It also has a feedback system built in (Github issues) for both bugs and feature requests.
What are your experiences with building a monetized open-source project?

So far the only monetization has been through donations and tutoring that I offer to students who want to learn how to contribute to real world software dev.
I love the education model because the code gets improved, and important knowledge is passed onto the next generation of open source contributors.
That's pretty wholesome. I like that.
