Please stop using undraw.co on your websites

Maybe its just me, but its way over done and doesnt give off a unique look whatsoever. Just hire a designer, im sure they could use the work and an original look will benefit your company in the long run.

I don't think it's just you (at least I feel similar), but also bear in mind that as indie hackers we are more aware and exposed to these illustrations, I think customers wouldn't notice as much.

Here's a list of other places to get graphics:

I think customers wouldn't notice as much.

100% this. 9 out of 10 times, I will find that common people can't tell WordPress/HTML5 templates or reused icons apart from custom design work. That's when it becomes easy to see how much of a bubble we are in this corner of the web.

You can also add https://www.uplabs.com. Just search for illustrations. I bought a few recently for a revamp of one of my apps and customized them with Figma to fit the product better.

I love it. Saves a ton of time and looks great. Customers also don't care about it. Unless you're selling to designers :)

We should be hiring designers for the UI/UX of the product.

I actually haven't seen these before. I can see the value in them for prototyping and getting something out there. The design doesn't matter as much when your starting something (as long as its not in the designer space).

Sometimes you just got to ship!

I didn't know this existed. Saving

    I couldn't identify undraw.co websites.

Most people can't afford a designer when they are starting out?

Woah, Illustrations matter so little, and unless you’re selling to the IH Community most of the world will not recognize this.

I've definitely seen these before but thought they were custom drawn. Despite them maybe being common among indie hackers, I don't think they're at the level of Bootstrap, where using it (with default styles) makes your site/app look like every other site/app.

i agree that custom illustrations may not matter as much, particularly in the beginning stages. and even more to the point, it looks like other big software companies (i'm not even sure at this point if Atlassian.com is stock illustration or not...) so it checks the box of credibility there.

it seems like animation (intercom and mailchimp for example) may be the next (re)emerging trend for websites.

We wanted something unique so we had an artist create a set of illustrations for us. (see them on markd.co, and you can see some early sketches at the top of this blog post: https://blog.markd.co/2019/05/20/behind-the-scenes-markd-v3.html)

To be honest, I am not sure if it makes any difference in terms of conversions, as our target users most likely aren't familiar with what are commonly available or used in apps/web apps.

Long-term benefit is hard to predict. But we are happy with the result and believe it gives us a different identity.
