Probably the 1st community where you can send video as comment? 😱

Building a tool where people can talk bi-directionally in the same manner is the critical to further grow the community.

l don't want people think lonely.dev is just a copy of YT. Well, both are video communities. But YT may be the best playground for influencers. Communication on YT is only one-directional, no difference from watching TV. Well you can like and dislike, but that's not the normal communication.

My goal for lonely.dev is never to create influencers for IH's niche. I want people really talk with each other in the same way.

Previously you can only watch someone's video, then make text-based comment. Text-based comment is too old school, and people may loose interests in interacting in the community. I want something more engaging, make people feel more interactive. That's why I made this video reply feature. This is the bi-directional, same-manner tool I want. And we do have our members really want it. I have no excuse not to make it happen.

Please let me know if you like it better than text-based comment or not. Any feedback and other suggestions, please please do let me know.

Wasn't that what YouTube did when it first started? Perhaps it's worth to investigate why they removed that feature. Here is a story I found: https://www.tubefilter.com/2013/08/31/1-in-250000-youtube-users-click-on-a-video-response/

Damn, then we are not the 1st one 😭But we may be the 1st that still have this feature alive.

Glad you shared this link, really worth to investigate more on it. Thank you!!!

yup. that's right. i remember that and a few other platforms as well.

but, i love this implementation and i'm looking at building a similar thing in my small platform as well! we're both thinking similarly!

Awesome!!! I would love to try yours as well once it's ready, let me know!

we're already using it in closed-testing.

            :)

I think it is perfect for the type of community you're building.

Given that most people can read and skim through text-based comments way faster than they would if they were in video format, I don't think many would appreciate this kind of commenting feature as they would need to start watching a video to see if the comment is relevant to them.

While I do think it's quicker to skim through comments, I think the more personalized responses are great for relationship building in communities. In this case, how it's delivered seems to be more important than what is delivered.

It might be beneficial to have the speech-to-text transcript alongside the video, though.

Completely agree on the personalized response - more human, in other words. It's certainly not meant for quick-reads, as Adam points out, but rather for high fidelity comms.
It shifts the paradigm from 'anonymous user' to an unique human face. I think there's def a place for this novel interaction, in the dev community and many, many other corners of the Internet.

I totally agree with you Adam. Some people want efficiency, but some people may want more interactive. I'm thinking if we can auto generate the transcript and put it on the side of the video. How could that be? 🤗

Now that our phones can auto-transcribe audio output, what's the point of complicating your life to put it into your own platform?

If anything, you're filtering out the minimally engaged and are keeping behind users who are willing to take the time to hear someone out, rather than scrolling past a wall of text, scanning for words that jump out at them.

I got so much inspired from what you said. Thanks Ovi!!! I think I will keep the platform as what I and my community want to be. It just can't be a duplicate of any existing ones.
