TITLE: Reddit's spam filter doesn't wait for you to spam. It predicts you will. Here's how.
CONTENT:
Your account gets flagged before you post anything promotional.
Not after. Before.
How Reddit predicts spam
Reddit's spam detection is predictive, not reactive.
It looks at your account creation date, your first activity, your comment velocity, and calculates a spam probability score.
High score = everything you post gets extra scrutiny, even if it's helpful.
Low score = you can post promotional content and it survives.
Same content. Different scores. Different outcomes.
I learned this the expensive way
Account one: created it, started commenting immediately, mentioned product on day 5. Banned.
Account two: created it, built karma for 2 weeks, posted about product. Banned.
Account three through six: different strategies, same result. All banned.
Account seven: created it, did NOTHING for 30 days. Just existed. Then started slow activity. Karma came naturally. Mentioned product on day 60.
Survived.
The difference
Accounts 1-6 triggered high spam scores immediately because of early activity patterns.
Account seven had a month of "dormant but real" history. Lower spam score. Same promotional content survived.
What lowers your spam score
Account age with low activity (dormant accounts look real)
Irregular activity patterns (bots are consistent, humans aren't)
Comment ratio (only posting = high score, mixed activity = lower score)
Subreddit variety (spam accounts focus on few subs)
Rest periods (humans sleep, bots don't)
What I built
After figuring this out I built MediaFast to map the account behavior that keeps spam scores low.
Shows you how long to wait before posting. What activity patterns signal "real human." When to rest. How to build the right account history.
Launched February 10, 2025. $5.4k/month now helping people build accounts Reddit's spam filter trusts.
The insight
You're not getting banned for what you post. You're getting banned for what Reddit predicted you WOULD post based on your account pattern.
Lower the prediction score. Keep the account.

The best tool for reddit so far is f5bot. You select the keywords you want to track and receive daily email alerts.
For reddit accounts, use g2g marketplace. For as little as 3 USD you can purchase an existing reddit account with 100+ karma and avoid waiting.
Nah mediafa.st handles it better for reddit
Nah, that tool is paid garbage
Very true. On Reddit, it’s not just about what you post, it’s about the behavioral profile of your account. A lot of people underestimate that. I’d honestly love to try a free one-week test to see how it performs.
I've already had six or seven of my accounts banned—I really hope I can read this article soon.
Then mediafa.st will help ya!
yea, Reddit has become too aggressive in banning accounts lately!
Reason why we have mediafa.st now!
Thanks for sharing this Arthur! Very interesting
Damm IH knew i needed this. i've been getting comments removed on a fairly new account and couldn't figure out if it was the content or the account itself. turns out it was never about the content at all. Thank you!
Thanks for your advise i have lost my fifth reddit account, i hope your experience will help me this time to survive.
Time to dive into mediafa.st then!
Great project man
Thanks!
You probably just saved me from having my accounts banned. I'm new to indie hacking and recently created accounts on Reddit and other platforms. I was about to start posting in fews weeks haha. Thanks
Welcome! You may want to checkout mediafa.st too!
Been working on growing a reddit presence recently as well. Been taking the approach of only comments and only being helpful to others genuinely and where able. Hoping that having 100-150+ Karma before posting anything will help avoid this. Also going to keep the predictive activities in mind. Thanks for this!
Welcome! Will be glad to have you aboard!
My content got filtered for all my messages today: I was just trying to create a small community to test my product but apparently it is considered as spam 🤔
Then you def need mediafa.st mate!
Seriously, just 5 minutes before reading this post, I tried to submit mine on Reddit and it got filtered. I was frustrated because I didn’t even include a single link or any promotional wording. This post looks helpful, so I'll give it a shot.
Welcome aboard soon then! MediaFa.st is just in time haha
Interesting how you did nothing for 30 days and were rewarded by being allowed to keep your account and post promotional material.
After the 30 days, did you start posting promotions under subreddits or only your own reddit account?
I started a new reddit account two weeks ago and was commenting, but not promotional material. It seems as though my posts aren't visible because there are no up-votes or replies. Karma is still 1, and contributions 0 even though I up-voted and commented several times to new and active posts.
My new account is still open, but I've stopped commenting and posting seeing as they are not visible anyways. Perhaps I will wait a few more weeks before I comment again.
There are also spam filters (account age, activity, contributions, karma) which are different for each subreddit so that may also play a role. Though not every subreddit explicitly states what these number or details are surrounding those filters.
Yep and mediafa.st handles it all!
