Hi, my name is Justin and I work on Quidli (https://quid.li) - we provide startup projects and companies a platform to acquire, manage, and share Bitcoin as incentives, rewards and or perks to offer contributors, particularly in the early days as a form of skin in the game.
While we have some early crypto company users, we want more exposure to non-crypto companies. And so surprise, surprise we launched a PH campaign - https://www.producthunt.com/posts/quidli-give-bitcoin-as-perks
If any of you in the IH community are interested or willing to help us out, it'd be much appreciated!
And happy to respond any questions or feedback here. Thanks!
Hey Justin, congrats on the launch! Doing much better than my attempt (https://www.indiehackers.com/post/my-ph-launch-is-going-to-fail-badly-isnt-it-a7504e974a).
I was not able to find where your company is based - I suppose you do have customers in the EU or even specifically Germany? Can you share some details about the legal/tax situation regarding this kind of incentive?
Appreciate it, man!
Our company is US-based but the team is based in France, so we have some French companies as customers. I start with the obligatory "I'm not a lawyer, tax adviser" and then share the following:
As of today, the situation is different per country/jurisdiction. However, because of the relative newness of crypto, many countries, including most in the EU, are currently treating it as a grey zone - this means so long as you proactively report what you hold and it's not a huge amount like hundreds of thousands in dollars, then it should be OK. And for companies, we help by providing necessary details like values, gains & losses (from fluctuation) for bookkeeping purposes, which you can then treat according to the accounting practices of your country.
I know for sure in terms of employee equity, Germany has very strict standards. But the little I'm aware of for crypto is actually quite progressive as long as you don't immediately liquidate any holdings into cash. If you are interested in pursuing, do let me know as we're happy to collaborate directly with you on this :)
