[round 2] can you describe this in your own words? 🙏🏻

hello again, hackers!

first of all, big thanks to all of you who responded so thoughtfully to my first post last weekend. i've incorporated a lot of the feedback you all gave and i think it's a lot clearer now!

i'd like to ask the same two quick questions of you regarding my landing page:

(if you reviewed it last week, try to pretend you've never seen it before 😂)

  1. without looking below the fold, can you describe in your own words what you think DayR is/does?
  2. after looking at the whole landing page, is it any more/less clear what DayR is/does?

https://dayr.app

thanks a ton!

    Hey Erik!

I'm a product designer in NYC. Happy to give my two cents. :)

    --

I think this is one of the more successful sites I've looked at on here.

    1. Without scrolling, my impression is I hang a blank canvas on the wall, then using AR on my phone I see a new painting / artwork every day.

Assuming this is correct, I think you could make this more clear/powerful by displaying an actual art piece (instead of just changing the rectangle from white to red).

I also this it might be cool to take it a step further, and incorporate a photo of an actual environment (instead of the illustration that you have now).

    1. I would say slightly more confused after looking at the second half. 😂

Am I printing out a poster with an image already on it?... or is it a blank canvas that your app projects artwork onto?

This line in particular is really confusing IMHO:

"You can also view one of these posters with the app on a second screen to try it."

    Hope this helps a bit!

    ---

PS: I'd drop the "what people are saying" section. It feels artificial.

Keep up the good work and stay safe!
    J

hey jack, thanks for the feedback and kind words!

      1. that's pretty much it! except yes, the poster or "marker" that you print does have an image on it already, and the app uses that to overlay that artwork for that day.

      2. haha. yes, printing a poster, but the designs that are there now are placeholders. the "final" ones will likely be black and white, in three different styles.

i'll probably use the most minimal one in the motion graphic (once it's ready), and maybe mockup some colored artwork as well.

yeah, that line is bad. and i revised it like ten times haha. i was trying to get the point across that you can test the app without having to print or buy a poster by looking at the poster on another screen. (i.e. download the app on your phone and look at the poster on your laptop.) i'll have to keep working on that haha.

ps: yeah, no doubt. i just made those up for now, i'll replace them with authentic reviews asap!

      thanks for the insight bro!

do you have a site for yourself i can check out? any project you're working on?

      1. 2

        Yoo man,

        Of course, happy to help!

I think it's a cool idea. Curious, when I look at the poster through my phone, does it totally change to a different artwork all together, or does it add something to the art work?

        Regarding this line:
"Click on a poster below to preview, print, or buy it."

Yeah I think this will be a tough, if not impossible to communicate clearly.

An alt approach might be to split these up.

        For instance:

        • One section devoted to choosing your poster (to purchase and download)
        • And a second section devoted to "Try it now". Basically this could automatically display a poster in the large format on your site, and prompt the user to download the app so they can see how it works.

        Just a thought!

        --

Yeah, I'm working on a product called "Magic".

        http://magicmorning.co/

        Curious if you can:

        • Can you understand what the product is for?
        • Do you understand how it does what it says it's says it's doing?
        • Does it make you want to try it out?

        --

I've been reflecting on it since I started offering feedback to others. I think I've hit on some key things to consider.

If you look at most successful companies they lean into their 2-4 key value props, and just keep reiterating these things over and over.

For instance, consider allbirds.com (billion dollar shoe start up)

        Their key value props are:

        • Primary
          • The world’s most comfortable shoe
          • Made with sustainable, natural materials.
        • Secondary
          • Minimalistic shoe design

If you look at every touch point of the company (site / social media / ads / packaging, etc), they emphasize / re-emphasize their key value props over and over.

Really good brands make it clear what they are, how they do it, and why you should care.

I think Magic is currently missing this, so there will be updates to the site soon. Still curious to get your input though!

          Yoo,

Just saw this and made me thing of your project. Just a little food for thought:

that's really cool! thanks for sharing, gonna keep that in mind.

awesome! yeah, the poster is just a “marker” for the app to recognize, then overlay with whatever the day’s artwork is (a really cool painting / illustration, movie poster, kickstarter project, etc.). eventually i plan to support short videos, 3d models / panoramas, mini-games, etc. and perhaps a social aspect like secret chats with friends and social posts at some point. the physical posters will probably be black and white and simple, so they really come alive when the artwork pops.

that is a great idea! a row of posters to print, and a second section to try it now. that’s what i will do, thanks man!

          —————

nice, i like it! it’s easy to understand what it’s for and i do want to try it, but that’s mostly because i’ve already heard from all the greats the power of the early risers / 5 am club / etc.

i think it’d be really powerful to highlight a few negatives to not having an early morning routine, followed by a few of the best benefits. like:

          • no energy in the morning?
          • do you finally start working and the day is half over?
          • is it really hard to focus on your current task?
          • whatever the top 3-5 pain points are

you deserve a morning routine that unlocks your true potential

          • a few benefits (not necessarily how you accomplish it, that should be a bit lower on the page)
          • accomplish more by 9 am than most do all day
          • develop a clear and focused mind
          • whatever else

also, i’m not sure how much “your new morning routine” primary header does for me, i like your second header much better. maybe something like, “discover the power of your new morning routine,” and then immediately hit the pain points and benefits. it’s really hard to change our habits, if i’m gonna go through all that pain, the two most important things i need to know are what will i lose / miss out on if i don’t do it and what will i gain if i do. paint that picture in 8 seconds, and people will read on to learn how you do it (blood flowing, fuel, etc.).

exactly, those top two or three benefits are your key value props that you should build your brand around. (be sure to get them right haha.)

i’m sure you’re planning to, but don’t forget to make your site responsive / mobile-friendly.

p.s. allbirds probably are the world’s most comfortable shoe 😂

            Hey!

            Meant to reply before.

Thanks for this feedback! Totally agree on all fronts. I've actually been re-doing the site. It'd be great to get your eyes on it when it's ready (next week).

            Thanks again!

              Hey there,

Just wondering if you could take a look at our new site, and give your opinion (Desktop only right now)

              http://magicmorning.co/

              2 Questions:
              - Is it clear?
              - Do you want to try the product?
              - If not, what's the reasoning?

              Thanks!

    1. No
    2. No

Also your landing page page load speed is very slow. Please improve it otherwise you'll have a high bounce rate.

hey neerav, thanks for the thoughtful feedback! 😂

hmm, it's lightning fast for me. where are you testing from, san jose?

pagespeed (notoriously harsh) shows a perfect 100 on mobile and desktop, and i haven't optimized anything yet...

Now it's fast. May be my internet slowed down precisely at the time when I clicked your link. :)
