SEO - what's most important? 🤷‍♂️

I'm in the process of building a nuxt app to replace the carrd landing page for Timeva.

The whole point is to optimize for SEO.

What are the most important SEO actions I (anyone) can take?

Huge thanks in advance.

Lots of great advice in the comments already, so I'll just add: including images and media.

Google Image is a great source of traffic that's often overlooked, and Google is adding images directly in the SERP now, including in the zero position.

For every new piece of content, I try to illustrate one key concept of the article in a nice infographic (quickly done on Canva). This helps differenciate from others, can also be a great source of backlinks from blogs using our visual and helps the shareability of the content.

When people focus mainly on text content, it's becoming harder and harder to be unique through text, so visuals are a nice plus.

Wow great point. Header images are relatively common but the idea to add an infographic is something I haven't heard of. I'll look to implement. Huge thanks

The most important SEO actions that anyone can take are:

    • On-page optimization: This includes meta tags, title tags and descriptions, URL structure, internal linking and site maps.

    • Off-page optimization: This includes social media marketing, link building and guest blogging.

    • Content marketing: This is a way to attract more visitors to your website by providing them with valuable information they are looking for.

    • Mobile optimization: Smartphones have become the most used devices on the internet so it is important to make sure that your website is mobile friendly.

Can you talk more about internal linking?

      1. 2

        Hi,
Internal links are the links that point to other pages on the same website. These links are important for SEO because they help search engines crawl the website and index the pages.

Internal linking is a process of strategically adding internal links to your content so that you can improve your site’s user experience, keyword rankings, and conversion rates.

The most common way of building internal links is through anchor text. You can use keywords or phrases as anchor text when you link to a page on your website in order to make it more relevant for search engine crawlers and readers.

There are two ways to build internal links:

        • The first one is by adding a link to the anchor text of an existing link. This way, you can use keywords as anchor text and it will act like a backlink from your own site to other pages.

        • The second method is by adding a URL parameter in the URL of an existing link. This way, you can use keywords as the parameter and it will act like a backlink from other sites to your own page.

    Backlinks.

Of course, there are a ton of correct answers to this question. Quality of the article, content hubs/internal linking, technical SEO, keyword research, etc. etc. All are important. But I'm gonna point to backlinks as the big one (and often the hardest).

The great thing about backlinks is that the better you are at all the other SEO tasks, the more backlinks you'll get.

The less great thing is that they're hard to get in the beginning. But there are some really solid tips out there. I just did a quick search on IH's Growth Bites page and found a few solid tips:

There are a ton more, but hopefully those are a good starting point for anyone trying to get some glorious backlink action.

Huge thanks for these links I'm diving in.

Amazing content + Content hubs + Reputable author + Linkbuilding = Long-term organic growth.

Once you've built your content make sure you

    • Link all the articles internally. No need for a clear structure, just make your content discoverable.
    • Find content distribution channels that work. (Think medium but with canonical, IndieHackers, Hashnode, ProductHunt discussions etc)
    • Update your article at least once. Google loves up-to-date articles.

I wrote an article about hacking linkbuilding with Unsplash. Check it out: https://tiburca.hashnode.dev/hacking-linkbuilding-with-unsplash

        Thanks a lot, Dan!

I would love to share it with the IndiHackers community. The issue is that I'm new to the platform so I can't post anything yet other than comments. :D

        Maybe once I get approved.

    Don't make it complicated:

    Actionable Tips:

Do analyze any competitor on Ahrefs and choose keywords by best intent and volume of searches per month.

Cover those keywords on your page copy
Make separate pages if you find a base keyword that should be covered separately

Check in Google PageSpeed Insights to make sure that the site is technically perfect

Build a sitemap, and submit it to Google Search Console.

    Then list your site here:

    ◾ AngelList
    ◾ TrustPilot
    ◾ Product Hunt
    ◾ Google My Business
    ◾ Crunchbase

It's for someone managing the site's tech end only, if planned for full SEO then your future SEO will be able to proceed with this done things easily.

Most people think of SEO to optimize for a machine.

From my personal experience THE MOST IMPORTANT piece of SEO is to actually care about people.

You can get lost in onsite optimization, link building, guest posting, social media and keeping track of the latest google ranking changes.

It won't move the needle if you don't know what your customers care about.

    What I do:

    1. find out WHY people search for a product like yours
    2. write about how to solve these problems / answer their questions
    3. repeat a 100x
    1. 1

I really like your core idea.

I feel like it's key to strike a balance because the search engine is looking for a specific style of content.

At the same time the search engine should be optimized for what/how people search for content which validates your approach even further.

    For on-page SEO...

    1. Keyword usage (Headlines + body text)
    2. Meta details (SEO title + meta description)
    3. Page load time
    4. Mobile-friendliness
    1. 1

Is there a threshold where page load times really start to hurt SEO?

  8. 2

If SEO is what you're aiming for, is your time best spent building a custom site?

I have limited exp with SEO but it seems to be made up of 3 parts.

    • Content
    • Technical SEO (title, descriptions, metatags, sitemaps, page speed)
    • Backlinks

Pick a platform that lets you focus on content and backlinks.

There are a few steps that you don’t want to miss: keyword research, content development, design for conversion, meta details, blog creation, and Google Analytics.
You can do all of this in different ways, but it’s important to do something about each step because they are all necessary to make your page appear higher in search engine results. More than 75% of users never scroll past the first page. That’s why you want to be on this first page.
If you are not sure you can handle it yourself, there are services like seo for insurance agents that are glad to help you with it. You can hire and learn from them to do this job yourself later.

    Hi guys,

I am starting a new website around a keyword which ahrefs KD is 0.

Please lemme know how can I rank it at the top of Google.

  11. 1

There are loads of tools on the market to help with on site SEO but IMHO they have little effect. Just get the basics right (Chrome's lighthouse tool is great). Google search console is also really useful.

The rest is really down to hard work: creating engaging content, promoting it on Twitter, LinkedIn etc. Link building is still really important but I've found that it's more subtle than many think.

For example mentions of your product, twitter handle or company name (if it's unique) can help with organic search performance, even if there were no links back to your site.

The rest is really down to hard work: creating engaging content...

I'm finding this is really the answer. It's a (engaging content + consistency + time) type of process.

Ha ha I am sure I have used that stock photo before!

      It's a solid shot! haha

I'm also interested in this, and I can say that for BotMeNot, my latest project, I'm currently most focused on writing blog posts and internal linking.

  14. 1

Get started with the basics! Invest in your website because you want people to find it when looking online.

Some basics include optimizing: Headings 1 and 2, Page Titles, Meta descriptions, and the Alt Texts of your product images. And focus on creating really good content using some keywords that you'd like to target. Having a blog is also a great way to start with SEO.

    Other important starting points:
    Good content readability - helps bots and humans understand your pages;
    Get into the Google search console to check your sitemap and understand index errors;
Link building - get other more authoritative sites to link to yours (being mentioned is a great way to boost).

    Good luck!

Basic technical SEO to let search engines to detect and index your site. Great and unique content. However, SEO is much more complex. I suggest to start your journey here: https://yoast.com/what-is-seo/

SEO consists of three main parts - on-page, off-page, and technical SEO.

For starters, it would've been better to build everything from back-end and fix any technical issues that arise. Working along with a web dev or even a freelance SEO expert will help you get started.

Next, is focusing more on your website, including the content on your landing page, blogs, and other articles and optimize them for SEO.

If everything goes well, off-page SEO would be a piece of cake for you! :)
