Sudden increase of downvoting activity in IH comments?
Looks like there's been an influx of comment downvoting in the last few weeks. Has anyone else noticed this or am I off-base?

Noticed this too. For example, in my journey thread released a few days back I have seen someone went and downvoted most or all comments. I have seen some downvote outbursts in some other threads (it seems) where comments were downvoted en masse.
Would it be worth exploring the idea of taking away the downvote option? And perhaps add a "report" option in case if someone does actually say something offensive (which doesn't seem to occur within this community to my knowledge).
There are some offensive things and spammy posts said every now and then, and downvoting tends to help in those situations. Perhaps I should restrict it to members who've got a long and solid reputation, because it's likely that he people who abuse downvotes are newer members.
Could you implement a spam icon + spam score? ( who doesn't want to get more points? )
I've noticed a weariness of self-promotional spam, both in myself and others, but I haven't seen an actual uptick of downvotes yet.
It might be helpful to have routine threads where people can promote their own stuff, then establish guidelines that minimize that type of stuff outside of those designated threads. So threads such as "apps needing beta users", "launching this week", etc. would come up on routine schedules.

Updated the post to include a couple threads I could find easily. There are more in recent memory. The first link could very well be an outlier. I'd never seen that type of response to a founder interview on IH.

My latest post, I noticed a huge increase in downvotes.
Maybe an increase in salty users?
Good gosh, even this got downvoted. Lighten up, people!
Maybe people are just curious what the down arrow does? Maybe they think it'll move the post to the bottom, and they're trying to sort the list of comments.
