I think this is a brilliant strategy: build an audience on a third-party platform, and once you get big enough then create your own platform so that you truly own your audience and are in control of your own destiny.

at some point, everyone should do this.

... use whatever tools you can use to get started.. and then, if you can, build your own.

We’ve moved onto our own homegrown platform.

Our business wouldn’t exist without Substack, and we think the world of them, but we’re excited to announce that Every will be run on a platform we built ourselves. We’re technology people. And as we’ve grown, we keep coming up with ideas to make our product and business better. So we decided to build our own CMS, one that works differently from anything that already exists, and gives us the freedom to evolve it however we want as we seek new ways to meet the needs of our audience.

This is essentially a content business, it's not that tech heavy.

I'd love to see indie hackers doing this kind of thing!

Why do they hide their pricing though? It's $1 for 30 days trial, but what's the regular price?

After I entered my email, the next screen said "$1 for 30 days, then $200 per year" so I assume the regular price is $200 per year.

They probably hide pricing because $200 is going to cause sticker shock for a lot of people, and at the very least they want to get people to sign up for the limited free tier.

Thanks, right, $200 per year is quite high.
