🌊LET'S SCUBA DIVE
While searching for websites with remote job positions and looking through the available ones, I came with the conclusion that they are repeated. The second conclusion wasn’t that obvious - aggregator websites don’t have positions that are published on companies’ websites, on Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit communities.

I have conducted a small research and according to my calculations, popular websites with remote jobs gather only ~⅓ of the available positions out there. That’s a surprise, that helped me understand that people, who are looking for a job, only see the tip of the iceberg.

Why does it happen? There are several obvious answers:

• The company doesn’t have an urgent need to fill the position, that’s why they post in on their website only;
• It is expensive to pay $300 for posting the position on a single job search website without any guarantees to fill that position;
• Companies use their own resources to fill the position, for instance, they search through acquaintances - those, who already work with them;
• Companies are trying to fill the positions via social nets, it’s likely that you’ve seen such things.

🚀WHO’S FASTER - WE OR MUSK?
Automatically collect positions from each company’s website is difficult. There will be a necessity to write a parser for each website. There’s also no hope that all these companies come themselves and tell about the position.

Meanwhile, thousands of job applicants can’t find a suitable workplace, because they just don’t know it exists. A solution is taking shape - gather these positions manually, but it is impossible to make it single-handedly. There are thousands of websites and one has to look through them every day, but it is required to start somewhere, right?

Having thought about that, I decided to collect a Google Spreadsheet (aka Excel) with positions. The initial plan was as follows:

1. Choose the topic, getting down to everything at once is impossible. Thus, Remote Design Jobs was chosen;
2. Collect 20+ sources, from where open positions can be taken.
3. Gather the spreadsheet while pointing out the most important data, without going deep into details: the company, the position, the date of posting and the link to the detailed description.

In a nutshell, the task was to collect all the remote positions, connected with the sphere of design over the last 1.5 months (I don’t know why exactly 1.5 months though ).

Having spent an entire working day, the result was 300+ positions that t̶h̶e̶ ̶s̶o̶n̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶m̶y̶ ̶m̶o̶t̶h̶e̶r̶’̶s̶ ̶f̶r̶i̶e̶n̶d̶ (funny Russian meme, that’ll be too stupid to explain. You know, mother Russia and stuff) Sergei and I gathered manually.

Do you remember about the research 🙄? A third of the positions is the tip of the iceberg that we see, and ⅔ are hidden underwater. And this means, that over the last 1.5 months, 600 positions have been overlooked. The conclusion: the competition per each position is overstated, and companies’ positions could be filled faster.

Gathering the unpublished positions is doable, but meanwhile - Elon Musk himself will land on Mars. And the first positions that have already been gathered - will be outdated. To make everything faster - we connected with friends and acquaintances. We continue the process of gathering and updating. We believe, that we do a useful thing.
