So happy to announce my React weekly curation newsletter just reached the 10k subscribers milestone!
It's also at around 2k€ MRR. It's hard to estimate, depends on sales but I predict it's the average I'll do on Q2 2022.
My newsletter is localized:
But I plan to merge it into one single-segmented list soon, probably using ConvertKit instead of Revue.
It started as a side activity: posting React insight daily on LinkedIn, building a personal brand, and selling consulting at higher rates.
Now I consider it a real product now, where I try to keep acquisition costs lower than the lifetime value of a reader.
Inspired by a few others (particularly Dan/TLDR...), I invest more in paid ads these days and plan to grow it more in the future once I decrease my subscriber acquisition cost. At spend something like 500€/month and may increase the budget over time. Good results on Reddit, Twitter, Google Ads, but it's not always easy to analyse and my current tech stack doesn't help to measure the quality of these subscribers.
Note that I build in public, and you'll find a LOT of additional details on these links:
If you still have any additional question, please let me know ;)
Congratulations! How are you planning on tracking the engagement of the subscribers you get from paid ads?
Good question, and indeed it's something I absolutely want for my next newsletter stack: the ability to know the value/behavior of a subscriber on a per-acquisition source basis.
ConvertKit has subscriber scoring + the ability to break down by segment (and it's possible to create tags for different acquisition sources). Their UI is not so great and they don't make it very convenient in practice (no ability to compare state for multiple segments, no filters deep linking with querystring etc...), but it is technically possible. If it's too painful, I may actually create a SaaS on top of ConvertKit 🤷♂️.
I'm still exploring ConvertKit alternatives to see what's out there, but so far only Beehiiv seems to provide this out-of-the-box (but isn't a good fit for me as it's not very flexible)
Please update us if you find something working.
I love your journey (following via Twitter ). I'm using many of your insights for unzip.dev too, thanks again and may you grow even faster.
Thanks a lot @agam 🙌 I hope your good growth too ;)
Thanks! Congrats again!
Hello @sebastienlorber
Signed up on this platform a while ago, and I found this a great read, and thank you for posting all the granular details.
thanks, happy you like it ;)
You should look into BeeHive...its amazing for newsletters tbh
I've tested it and it looks great but there are a lot of annoying things as well:
What I liked is the built-in referral program and the 3d analytics. They have a nice focus on newsletter growth. Otherwise, I didn't really like it.
