Try writing “advice emails” instead of sales emails

https://marketingexamples.com/coldemail/advice-emails

I was tasked with doing some some email outreach for a co-working startup last week.

So, I got together a list of the emails of 40 freelancers. First day on the job I wrote your classic sales emails. Stats: 20 sent. 2 click throughs. No replies

The next day I wrote out a new template which I coined the “advice email”. Instead of pitching the product straight away I asked for advice instead.

People love giving advice and the stats reflected this. 20 sent. 16 click throughs. 14 replies. Not only did we get constructive feedback but we were also indirectly selling in our product and two freelancers converted.

If you want some more detail on why this worked, I've just finished an article about what happened.

This is great, I will give it a shot and post updates.

    Thanks!

Sweet. Looking forward to it. Couple of points:

      1. Results will vary with small sample
      2. I still spent 10 minutes researching each prospect and personalising the end of the email (hence the personalised stuff about Derek Sivers on this one ...)

Very interesting. I have put this in my notebook for later viewing. Thanks

      Awesome! Good luck.

If you're in the early stages of your business its especially good to get genuine advice (as well as indirectly market your product).
