Unrealistic expectations led me to emotional burnout

Yesterday I tried to learn a JavaScript framework called React. I figured I would pick it up in a couple of hours and conclude by building a simple website with it

The fastest I’ve been able to teach react fundamentals is a week of hands-on training. Even then, a followup tutorial series from Udemy helps fill a lot of gaps. Becoming an “expert” in react takes years.

In fact, it will probably take more than several months to achieve some level of success. My understanding of the startup literature suggests it will take at least 5 years, but probably closer to 10 to achieve the desired outcome.

Sounds about right. I’m aiming for the five year mark to launch, may take 10 for my dream goals.

Don’t give up! It’s a long road, but you’ll make it if you just keep moving forward. Even if you don’t understand where you are.

Get a mentor! Someone to help review your code and get you out of a rut is one of the best ways to stay encouraged, motivated, and successful.

Shit happens, take as much as you can from it, learn, memorize it, move on.
Go smaller next time, and find the joy from doing what you are doing.
