We launched S'mores - an AI Music Discovery App | Part 4 - Growth and Marketing 🌱

Chapter 4: Growth/Marketing

Marketing should come before the product is even out:
Before and during the engineering phase, we wanted to test what the initial demand would be like. So we started a basic Google Form waitlist, describing the idea, some questions about people’s current music discovery journey and posted it on Reddit.

Offer to give something first:
Offer to give something before expecting something back. For the form, I asked people to give me their favorite couple of songs/genres and I would manually create a 1 minute audio file with 6 song snippets stitched together. I then asked for their email to give them the audio file. People loved it.

Within a couple of weeks, we had gotten over 1000 signups for the waitlist without a product even launched.

Here was our growth plan:

  1. We first emailed our waitlist about the product launch and measured closely + friends

  2. Next, we started posting in various subreddits and seeing how people would react

  3. We made Tik-Tok Music Recommendations videos showing off the app
We worked with Playlist Curators and Music Influencers on Tik Tok (e.g video )

  4. Posted on FB groups

  5. Create a community. Here’s our community link: https://discord.gg/MewDrxP4jX This does two things:

    a. acts as a 1–1 communication/feedback platform for you and your users
    b. Growth hack for people to invite their friends over

Stay tuned for Chapter 5 where I got into our metrics and results so far...
