Weekly growth notes - what have you been doing this past week?

I enjoyed the #30daysofgrowth challenge we did recently. I think it was a nice push in the right direction, but a daily commitment seemed too hard. What I loved seeing was people sharing what they were doing and updating us on their progress.

Now that we have a Growth channel I thought it would be useful to do this on a weekly basis (when there is something of value to report).

Also, because I want to ensure I participate every week I've decided to post updates on what I'm doing for the IH Community. I don't always make progress on my personal projects, but I'm definitely always up to fun things within this community!

Great idea. Back from vacation this week with plenty of fresh growth ideas to try! Will have a good update for next week.

    That's awesome - great idea!

Some growth highlights from last week for the Sales for Founders course...

    • I appeared as a guest on two podcasts
    • I recorded and edited a podcast episode of my own (will be available here, hopefully tonight!
    • I updated the landing page to reflect the new course format
    • I edited and uploaded a new testimonial video to the landing page

Some of the highlights for this week for the IH community work I've been doing are:

    • I wrote an article for IH, one last review from me today before submitting to the team. I'm trying to write one article a week, but I'm not quite there yet. Encourage me with ideas and comments on the ones that I do publish! :)
    • I've been working on the IH LinkedIn page, we're almost at 500 followers! Help me push it over the edge? Mostly I've been posting things about interviews, Instagram Stories and articles.
    • I've been slowly putting quotes into images and posting them to Twitter and LinkedIn, the one with @bentossell did well! He's a popular man atm!
    • I'm tasked with keeping the community active, last week we hit 631 comments in one day, that's our highest number to date.
    • I recently started posting things to Twitter, I'm experimenting with different types of Tweets atm. I waved and got 184 responses, lol. And this Tweet getting people to pitch their products got 141 comments!

Yay this has returned! For me:

    Growing markd.co - relationship manager

    • Finalising our marketing team. I talked to a few candidates, read their writings, and now we've added two people to the team to help with growth!
    • Answering Quora questions as usual
    • Wrote about our failure on ProductHunt for talentsearch.cc on my personal blog (which has links back to markd)
    • Sought and gathered feedback on homepage from StartupSchool and on IndieHackers. Made adjustments (WIP)
    • A lot of discussions and re-design for our next big product milestone (Google Contacts import). I don't necessarily think it'll help us growth but I am hopeful that this makes the product more useful and people will come back to it more often.

I shipped multiplayer! I've been starting to focus on getting the word out. Some growth notes:

    • 200 site views for danger.world in the last 2 days.
    • Up to 154 user accounts! This is 50% growth in the last 3 weeks.
    • Did some initial Facebook advertising, followed by a larger boost. About to start with the Google Play Store/Apple App Store/Reddit advertisements.

    Here's my list:

    • Sent email to our blog subscribers
    • Sent emails to our users
    • Posted on our Twitter somewhat consistently
    • Updated our extension 5x to fix UX bugs and code bugs after the influx of new users from our ProductHunt launch --> greater retention = better growth.

Focusing more on making sure our users don't install our extension and never use it / use it only once.

Curious to know what kind of things you are improving to improve retention.

      1. 1
        • Emailed most users asking for feedback (the response rate was low, however, not sure about the efficiency of it)
        • Added new screens that show up when browser starts if certain conditions are met (haven't set up the extension --> here's a reminder to set it up, haven't used it in 3 days --> hey, you haven't used it in 3 days, here's how it can help you focus.
        • Posted on Twitter about our newest updates.

Also importantly: analyzed anonymous usage data to actually see what the retention numbers are (will continue to analyze more).
