Rosie here -- the Indie Hackers community manager. Welcome! 👋

This short guide is meant to help you get the most out of Indie Hackers.

First, introduce yourself!

Indie Hackers is a community of people helping each other build profitable businesses and side projects. The key word here is "community." Don't be shy!

For starters, take a second to introduce yourself and share your goals in the comments below. 👇

Just say a few words about who you are, why you're here, and what you hope to accomplish or learn in 2020.

Dive into learning.

We've interviewed hundreds of successful indie hackers. I recommend reading a few of their stories. It's a great way to get an overview of what's possible.

@csallen also puts out podcast episodes if reading isn't your thing!

Next, get started!

There's no time like the present. Check out the "Start Here" page for a list of practical steps and articles that can help you take action.

Not only will it help you get started, but it should also introduce you to some of the best parts of the Indie Hackers community.

Hi everyone! I left my job a month ago to start working on https://crowdparty.app

I saved up enough money to give me about a year's runway to work on my own creative projects! Nice to meet you all! 👋

    1. 2

looks great! really nice feel to the pages. The hurdle seems a bit high to just "jump in" and start playing, i think i have to connect zoom or something? love to chat with you about it offline, i'm doing something game related too

      1. 2

Hey @dcsan I would definitely love to connect! Yes, the intention is that someone would host a game using Zoom or Hangouts!

        1. 2

did you look at integration with twitch like channels? that would give you an interface to raw livestreaming, you could stream your game. the audience are also pretty receptive to games. Tho, zoom is more popular it seems. Not sure what hangouts is like now for APIs, it used to be pretty amazing, you could even have event track to sync to time codes.
I'm also dcsan on twitter, DMs are open.

Hi All, I am currently a South African Marketing and Economics post grade student. I am looking to start my own social media marketing/management company, as well as a product company. I have come here to better educate myself by learning from practical examples rather than just a text a book.

I look forward to being part of this community.

    Sihle

    Greetings all!

Seasoned Business Development / Sales Executive (yes, you can read "seasoned" as "OLD"). Non-technical founder here looking for tips, guidance, and potentially collaborators. Hoping to contribute to the community based on my experiences and learn from everyone here as well.

Hi everyone! I don't have a mind-blowing project right now but I am a Freelance Copywriter looking to help people with amazing ideas to help with your written content for websites, apps and marketing material. I also use Search Engine Optimisation to improve Google Search rankings. If this is of interest to anyone get in touch!

Hi Everyone! My co-founder and I are working on digitizing industries in an emerging country(Ethiopia) where there is so much opportunity as there is no clear market winner in any sector yet. We are starting with Logistics coordination and fleet management and plan to work our way in to other areas (insurance, fintech, eCommerce, etc.). I live in US and I am technical and product lead, and my partner is a business executive with experience in transportation industry in Ethiopia. We are looking for fullstack developer co-founder to help us make this a reality. We are building a company that will seize this great opportunity while measurably contributing to the country tech ecosystem.

    1. 2

      Wow! Very cool.

I'm currently on a team trying to do something similar in India for tapris, roadside merchants. Best of luck!

      1. 1

Thank you. Best of luck to you too!

    Hello All,
I am a mechanical engineer working in the utility industry. Essentially, I would like to one day be able to say I have my own business and I believe the way to that future is through software.

So the next logical question is, 'Can I code?' I can print 'Hello World' to the console haha...I have an off and on again relationship with learning to code online. At this moment, I have taken up Javascript. Its been going well for the past few weeks. I have browsed around the site a bit and plan to explore the resources for non-technical founders.

Currently, I am working on a job board. If anyone would like, please feel free to check it out https://squareonecareers.com/. I only have two blog posts at the moment.

My idea is for the job board to be catered towards entry level professionals or those wishing to change fields. Ideally, the board will only have positions that require 0-2 years work experience.
My plan for monetization is to generate traffic through articles/blog posts & also charge employers to post jobs. I am currently relying on a PHP developer I found through a marketplace.

This is but one of the many ideas keeping me up at night but for now I am just taking it one step at a time and hoping to learn as much as I can.

    Dominic

    1. 1

Mate you're not the only one with that on/off relationship with coding! Read your blogs, you're a good writer.

    Hello,
My name is Philip, from Nigeria. I have been working on an idea on starting a home cleaning business, and I'm here to learn about whatever I may need for the journey ahead

    1. 1

Hey Philipp, have you heard of "Eden" a convenient way to schedule cleaning services in Naija? You can search about interviews of the founder to find gaps/opportunities on the market you can leverage to start your own company. That is how one of our founders started his tech company in Canada

Hey everyone 👋, I'm a product engineer working at smartbnb.io for around 15 months now. I'm actively working on a couple of side-projects with two different colleagues 🤭. Balancing working in the evenings and being a father too.

Both projects I'm really excited for, octohook.com - for debugging, forwarding and visualising webhooks, as well as smithy.app for keeping your Slack conversations threaded and making decisions visible. Both were started in the last 6 months or so and have been great fun (for the most part; I'm looking at you Slack) to work on, really looking forward to the next 6 months and hopefully to start generating some value for our users (oh and some revenue too!).

    1. 1

Hello, your products seems cool. I am a front end developer looking for some quality side projects to work on and learn more. I would be very happy to connect with you.

Hi, I'm Het. I'm a software engineer with entrepreneur spirit working for a Tech giant. I started my career with a ecommerce startup and past few years I've missed that feeling of building something from scratch. I'm here to collaborate with like minded people and hopefully build a enjoyable business that makes me proud and adds value to other people's lives! :)

    1. 1

Hey Het, I’m working for software giant as well and I’m working on a project with potential high impact. We have a need for software engineer cofounder on our team. Please read more here and if it I interests you, let’s talk.

      https://www.indiehackers.com/post/developer-co-founder-needed-for-a-promising-startup-in-emerging-country-big-opportunity-f82fa1abd3

    2. 1

Hello Het! i have a few ideas we can work on.

    3. 1

i think we can speak on this. as i am looking for tech cofounder for my ideas...

  10. 2

Hi all, I left my job in March to pursue teaching coding online. Not an original idea at all, but one that's been proven to work many times (and in different languages, niches).

I've kicked around the idea for ~2 years now and have had a bunch of failed launches.

I have a little over 6 months of runway now and am determined to make it work.

I know that worst case scenario, getting another dev job isn't too bad, but I am not ready to give up on the dream yet.

    Cheers!

    Thank you very much

    Hi all,

Vlad here. I left my job two weeks ago and I'm trying out creating projects on my own for a while. My experience is mostly in backend development (Spring Boot, Kotlin, Scala, Python) but I'm familiar with a bit of React and data science as well.

I'm located in Las Vegas, NV if someone wants to meet up IRL.

    1. 1

Hey Vlad! Fellow java developer learning data science in free time. Inferential statistics is pretty hard to understand, but I am getting along. Nice to meet you. Let me know if you need a hand with any of your java projects.

    Hello everyone!

I am Krushna. I am an inbound marketer at a startup - HelloMeets - in India.

I am here to learn more about inbound marketing & how to setup a newsletter of learnings in the startup-space for professionals (who are our community members). I am creating the newsletter pipeline from scratch, so any help would be appreciated.

I love music, writing fiction, film studies, and running. Glad be here and thank you @rosiesherry for the warm welcome. :)

I recently came across an amazing post by @lesleypizza, and her strides in creating a very useful plug-in has renewed my hopes of setting up a good system to set-up a newsletter workflow. I thank her for this.

    1. 1

Thanks Krushna for the kind words!! 🙏🙏

      Really appreciate it!

  15. 2

Hey There 👋 I got made redundant and decided to build https://awkwardparty.com 🥳

Awkward Party is a social gaming app available on iOS and Android. Friends mess with each other by providing hilarious fake answers to questions and then trying to figure out what the actual answer is 🤔

It's not all about getting answers right it's more about bringing out the awkward humour you and your friends have and having a good laugh together. Not to mention, annoying your friends with the perks you get from being the winner 😏🎉

If you could give it a go with some friends and let me know what you think that would be great! (yes the retro look is intentional 😂)

  16. 2

    Hey awesome Indie Hackers!

I've just launched my landing page for feedbackable.io - a better way to collect design feedback.

I've been lurking here for a while, learning from all the super talented and hard working people here.

So much learning still to do, but I've taken the plunge with my first launch! 😀

    👋

    1. 1

Oh, that's really cool! You might be interested in some of the replies I got in this thread:

I still haven't found a good solution, so I'm rooting for you 🙌

      1. 2

Ohhh cool, that use case is exactly how I came up with this idea.

I'll read through that chat - thanks so much!

hello everyone! My passion is programming, I know javascript, and C#, my goal is to do a decent tech startup. I have created 3 android games and have published to the play store. I wish to do something quite big, and make some money out of it.

    1. 2

Hey, just a shot in the dark, but I'm working with a small team to design a B2B and B2C product that helps microbusinesses in India manage inventory, and provide a more consistent shopping experience for customers.

There are several million tapris in India, which are roadside merchants, and they need help modernizing the business model. We are currently developing a brand story to seek funding on Indiegogo, and then prepare to scale. Let me know if you're interested!

      1. 2

I'm interested and keen to know more.

Hi everyone! I'm a lone marketer at a tech startup looking to learn some tips & tricks to work smarter, not harder. Hoping to find many ways to automate my routine work (e.g. emails, blogs, social) so I have more time to spend on strategy and tackling larger projects (e.g. paid advertising, web optimizations, SEO).

Hi Everyone! Amit here co-founder of DeepMoth.
At Deepmoth, we are offering an audiobook platform for free to everyone keeping rich user experience in mind to enhance their level of comfort while using the app to play audiobooks.

We have just launched our app ‘Papervoice’ on Google Playstore and on Apple Store which has 50+ audiobooks already onboarded. We would love to hear your feedbacks and opinions. You can find our app here:

    Google Playstore: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.papervoice
    Apple Store: https://apps.apple.com/in/app/papervoice/id1518475351

    1. 1

Just downloaded it, I'll give it a whirl and leave a review. If you can keep some good fiction on there, especially swords and sorcery type stories like Lord of the Rings you got me hooked. Wish you guys the best!

      1. 2

thanks. We will be adding them soon.

        1. 1

I left a review on the app store. Definitely deserves 5-stars.

I just ran into a bug that closes the app when I try to play the Pilgrim's Promise and The Adventure's of Sherlock Holmes. The others I tried worked. I'm going to remove that portion from my review. I forgot I should have just told you about that here!

Hello everyone, I'm Omar, a software engineer from Dominican Republic who is trying to run my first real startup. I'm currently building a SaaS solution for the education industry. Actually, I'm too excited about this project because I strongly believe that this is what the LATAM countries (or even the world) need in order to improve the learning experience.

If your product is aiming to LATAM or African market, I'd love to hear about your experience and the strategies you've used or/and problems that you've encountered.

Anyways, I hope to share with all of you. Cheers.

Hello, I'm a current CS student who hopes to improve myself in the world of programming. I'm interested in meeting new people and I look forward to my internship next year!

    Hi Roseie & I.H.

Mark here from the U.K., 2020 for sure has been an interesting one. Came into it running a fairly successful freelance photography business based around the museums & visitor attraction sectors. Lockdown put an end to all of that so I finally had chance to properly devote some time to my coding practises. Having been dabbling for a few years I've finally got to grips with HTML, CSS & my javascript skills have really come on too. So now here I am linking up with the greatest community known within the coding multiverse, too give me some support, good vibes and kicks up the rumpus when I start slacking.
    Hi!

    Hey everybody,

I'm dominic, I'm a podcast host and blogger of The Hackathon Podcast/ Hackathon Entertainment. A media outlet that publishes stories about marathon-style innovation events.

I'm always always making projects both no-code and code. I have both a technical and business background. Fascinated by the idea of what I call Microstartups or "side-hustles", "lifestyle businesses". Super interested on hacking a solution that people would immediately pay for!

It's great to be a part of the community.

Hi all, I am working on a saas project at the moment. Being a techie by trade I am trying to get my head around all the marketing stuff at the moment. Feeling out of my comfort zone for sure but its kind of exciting. Looking forward to getting to know the community.

    1. 2

Sounds cool and we're in the same place :)

  25. 2

Hi everyone, I am Lorenzo from Italy. I am an iOS and web developer.

During the lockdown all my classes moved online and my learning process has changed a lot. Recorded lectures and content tailored to the online experience made me realize that most of the new information I was reading and listening to was being lost.

Then I have found a note-taking method called zettelkasten and I made a tool based on it to never miss any fact or idea and relate them to my previous thoughts immediately. It really improved my learning experience and made me more creative. Even if I forget something I can recall my previous thoughts and connections very quickly, saving a huge amount of time for my future self and gaining more and more insights each time I add new notes. I have just made it publicly available https://gemsnotes.app You can access it via your favorite browser, I recommend using desktop instead of mobile for a better experience.

I think there is more than one way to use the tool effectively and I would like to meet someone to exchange techniques to write and organize the notes and discuss about new features and improvements. Thank you and nice to meet you all! 👋

Hello everyone. I am a Japanese college student. I am studying economics. I am happy to find this community. I will do my best to spread the no-code in Japan.

  27. 2

    Hey all!

I've been trying to find a community of positive and kind entrepreneurs for awhile now, and hoping this is such a place. I'm currently pursuing a B.S in Business Administration with an emphasis on Marketing. I have one small client and I curate 3 Instagram posts for them a week. Still struggling to get them from 200 followers to 400. I didn't expect it to be so hard!

College is my #1 focus. I plan to graduate next year. In the meantime I'd like to hone in on my skills. I want to learn more about digital marketing and figure out what I can offer and see about being a full time freelancer after college as the full time W4 employee marketing world seems a little too workhorse culture for my liking. I'm not shy to hard work, but I want to know I'm the main one reaping the rewards of that hard work.

The more I learn, it feels the less I know. So I hope to learn lots from this community.

  28. 2

    Hello, indie hackers!

I'm Robert, a UX and product designer. I worked for many global companies, some in the house as a full staff member and many more as an external consultant. One thing I discovered in that field is how I gained so much knowledge, skills, and many tricks that none of the online courses will teach you. Most online courses are boring, slow-paced, and generalizing with the content. When you finish them, it raises more questions than answers you got from it. Also, many courses mix the UX with the UI.

So I decided to start my platform for online courses on demand, teaching people proper skills from the field rather than academic theories.
So far, I worked on it as a side project. At the moment, I finished a contract with one employer, so before finding another contract, I decided to spend full time on this project for a month or two. This is the name and web page for my project: https://www.uxdify.com It's under construction page only. At the moment, I am working on the 1st MVP course content, which is 70% done.

    Cheers, Rob

    Hello everyone,
I am a full stack web developer and keen Indie Hackers Podcast listener based in the United Kingdom. I am currently employed in a small fintech startup where I have learned a lot about the opportunities and challenges that come with running your own business. I have yet to take the plunge but with the help of the IH community and my own technical knowledge, I hope to become my own boss some day. Looking forward to sharing and giving back to the community!

Hey everyone, I'm working as a startup investor at a VC in Switzerland, and started as a side project a podcast (https://www.leaptakers.com/) where I interview up-and-coming European founders.

I learned about Indiehackers only recently.. (in a podcast conversation with Anne-Laure Le Cunff) and would like to connect with like-minded people here, as well as looking for advice on how to grow & improve my podcast.

Looking forward to be part of this community.

Hi everyone, my name is Harrison and along with my buddy Chase @sandbarproductions
we are creating jpeg.chat a community platform for photographers. Nice to meet everyone and looking forward to connecting with other makers.

Hello! I've been bootstrapping my startup for a little over year, and I left my job 2 weeks ago to pursue full-time. For now, I find myself living day-to-day as a solo content creation hermit, juggling the initial automation of multiple social media accounts. My next step is to refine and build a more sustainable inbound marketing / SEO strategy.

We are always looking for feedback! kahana.co

I am thrilled to be a part of this supportive community. Please let me know if there's anything I can do to help and I'm there :) Good luck to everyone!!!

    1. 1

      Hey Adam!

I took a quick peek at your landing page and I'm not really sure what the product is? Or who it is for?

I think it is similar to Evernote, but it seems to have the focus-writing approach of an app like Ulysses?

Then again maybe I'm not the target demo.

      Best of luck!

      1. 1

Hey Eddy! Thanks so much for the honest feedback. And thank you for taking the time to look at our landing page. I really appreciate your kindness. Hopefully, I can provide some clarity here:

Kahana is a minimalist split-screen workspace and an accompanying dashboard that help people who are constantly researching keep everything in one place. We noticed that the way many people currently do research is tedious and time-consuming (dozens of docs and tabs open / minimized randomly).

Evernote and Ulysses are definitely inspirations for us, however, we observed that those solutions can become bottlenecks for research because they use standard folder+document branching architecture. We wanted Kahana's file architecture to be "matrix-like" and open to help people access and process their information faster and easier, even as their research scales.

I'll stop rambling now! I hope that makes sense. Sorry to get so into the weeds haha. Thank you SO much and best of luck with your work!

  33. 1

Hey guys! Long story short, I'm getting back to "the hustle" after a pretty long very needed pause (3yrs).

This followed the demise of my previous startup (Quadro) and a subsequent illness that left me without a stomach. (literally)

My core is in UX/UI Design, I’m currently working as consultant for a living, but just (re)started to develop new ideas for side projects.

I’m a repented lone wolf, looking to be more open and connect with fellow makers. This community seems a perfect place to start building fruitful connections – alongside products.

Thanks to @csallen for creating this platform. Rad 💩.

Hi I`m from Latvia name Raimonds . I like this place. Now I have no project in my mind what to do. I will be happy if I finde some project where I can improve my devops skills TY.

Boring story whana practice wiht writing.: :)-> Hi all. A couple of years ago I started my adventures in the IT industry. Everything I found about this industry and how things are going there is true. Before I dared to put myself on this path, I went through a long and long process of preparation. I studied the basics of physics and worked as a physics teacher (I dount know way but i did it :D ). After I studied pedagogy lot of fun and interesting converstion was in back days. I met a lot of different people. 5 yers a go I startt thing about new me and new path what I whana do for my live. I found a job after programming bootcampa 7 monthe later I was fired. I did not give up and finde new one job. At the moment, in addition to my basic job as a devops, I also teach new programmers. I don't know how I got there again as an educator, but I really wanted to. This is the current vortex of my past, but I feel that I want to look at the world from a different point of view, I want to pursue new adventures in the unknown and incomprehensible, but I am not afraid of it. With all this I have written above, I want to say whether there are people who just want to talk to those who have something inside that they want but something is not yet possible. I read this butifle storys about how peopeals succes on her own ways. I feel insperation to do it too, but I dount know how it will be posible I need more time to understand :D.
Myself now I see as devops but I`m very flexable person I like all. I don't know yet what the true devops are, I still have a lot to learn, but I believe I will succeed and I will be able to be useful.

Hello! I'm working on Harbour (https://harbour.unicornplatform.com/) - a community of people who like to complete fun challenges every day and share their stories! I'm looking for feedback on the idea and execution. I think my strong suit is the development aspect but I'm a little weaker on the marketing. Would love thoughts and feedback!

Hello everyone! As our travel business is hurt during the COVID19 crisis we decided to not just wait and see how things progress but launch and enhance our side project which is https://guestlikelocal.com.

Very new here, was not aware of this community. Used to be a Drupal developer until 2006 and have over 20 years SEO experience.

Hi all! Isabelle here (loving the username I scored). I’m a marketing student, currently helping launch a no-code data analytics tool –– https://www.lido.app/

Right now, we’re in the beta testing phase, so I’m excited to learn from this community as we grow and hope I can provide some insights along the way 🙃

Hey everyone! I'm trying to get a side project i'm doing with a friend off the ground as a real "weekend business". We're trying to improve the workflow for boat-based sports. Not trying to grow it exponentially or anything (super niche, low market cap), but reach out if you're interested in talkin' about it!

  39. 1

Howdy! I am Saumya, I am on the road to front-end development, learning exploring new things in this field. I am here to explore myself and wanted to join this community that would help me grow.

    Good afternoon,

I’m an Englishman in Miami and we’ve just incorporated our company Rekomend.io

Very early stages of bootstrapping and keen to build our network of like minded creators and founders to hopefully give us a heads up on the what to do and what NOT to do of founding a company in 2020.

I have 9 years experience in technology recruitment and built million dollar PROFIT companies from zero, so I’m positive I can add value to at least one person here!

    To the moon.

    Hi All

I'm a Software Tester by profession and started Front-End Development and also learning Flutter. I am in infancy stage with my start-up and I am so glad I found out about Indie Hackers so early on. Hoping to learn a lot from everyone here.

Hi everyone - I finally feel comfortable sharing the thing I've been working on. It's called Keenforms - https://www.keenforms.com

It's a form builder that can do magic, i.e. conditional calculations and validations. There are lots of form builders out there but at one point I tried to build a form using existing tools, like an estimator for a landscaper as well as a mortgage calculator. However the calculation logic fell short of what was needed. You could do simple math but you could not add a condition to a calculation. After talking to some other designers and developers as well as form builder power users I figured out there was a need, and so I decided to build one.

It's been an uphill climb as it is a rather challenging task. However recently I've crossed a threshold where I feel like it's worth sharing, it actually works. It's been exhilarating to get it working, and to be able to build stuff like the mortgage calculator that is on the landing page. I'm hoping to launch within the next couple of months. I'm hoping to learn as much as I can here. Thanks for your time!

Hi everyone! I am a photographer by trade, and a terrible hacker by hobby/side thing. I have launched and mislaunched a number of websites and apps in the past 10 years, and have self-learned some pretty rough coding skills in that time. I am always working on the next thing (which is surely why the last thing isn't working). Currently https://passdropit.com is bringing in some revenue, so I am really trying to stay focused on it :) and growing the traffic. Nice to meet everyone!

    Hello out there!

I'm an agency owner and also starting a launchpad for SaaS startups. I'm trying to build a productized service-based business as well. I've been lurking IH for a while and finally signed up.

I was a digital nomad, but now I'm a father of two lovely kids so it's more difficult to travel. I'm currently living in Thailand.

Looking forward to learning and sharing with the community. Hope to connect with Indie Hackers!

    Yo all!
I'm Liran, currently 22 years old and I live in Israel. For the early years of my life I've been in love with computers, mathematics, programming and research. I've participated and won international programming competitions and almost finished my Master's degree in computer science by the age of 20.

Now I'm serving in the army, we have mandatory service for 2.8 years but the good programmers usually go to specific role to have experience and we sign up for additional 2.6 years. (Some kind of exploitation over innocent 18 years old).

I stopped love what I'm doing, I'm interested more the entrepreneurial side of any business, but I have 2.6 years left to serve as a dayjob (the additional service I signed up to). I left my Master's degree because it is no help to reach my goals, started reading more about entrepreneurial, sales, negotiation and people in general.

My current goal is financial freedom, I want to leverage my technological and analytical skills to build something great that will produce freedom as an outcome.
For the past weeks I'm into networking and found this great platform called IndieHackers :)
Will love to meet, talk and share my journy with you! Get in Touch!

    Hey everyone,

For the past decade, I've owned/operated a small food business in NYC. A few years ago when my daughter was born I stepped away from the business to be more present at home. To my surprise, the business didn't burn down it actually accelerated and we had our business quarter in our companies history at the time.

I realized the business didn't need my leadership, I put the right people, and a growth plan in place and I was able to focus on being a stay at home dad. I always had an interest in software development, so during nap times I would try and learn a little every day.

Fast forward a year and I'm much more confident in my abilities, but still feel I'm missing what a CS degree would have given me. Am I wrong to feel this way? I'm working on a side project and would love to share and get some feedback when it's ready.

And before I forget, hey Rosie!

    Take care, everyone,
    a

    Hi everyone :)

I am a 24-year-old living in Nashville, TN. I currently work at a tech startup here, and I have always had aspirations to start my own biz. I studied PR with a specialization in tech + digital communication in school.

I've always been extremely passionate about communication, whether that's through podcasting, social media (love/hate), and advertising/branding.

COVID has me 100% WFH for the foreseeable future, and I recently got out of a 5-year relationship. These life-events have given me lots of time to think about who I am, what I like, and where I want to be.

I've probably had at least 50 business ideas within the last year, and after some research, I've found that most of them fall flat. I do have one concept around podcasting that has refused to die for over a year now, but I do not have the tech/coding chops to make meaningful progress toward bringing it to life.

I have always felt that I work best in a partnership. I am looking for someone who is a podcast-junkie and has the computer science abilities to help me bring this baby into the world. I am only 24, but I've had a lot of valuable experience with digital marketing and publicity, along with some limited sales experience.

A colleague recommended that I check indiehackers out, and I am very grateful for his advice because this place looks really awesome! I am looking forward to diving deeper and trying to build something in this brave new world.

    -Ben

Howdy! I started building a lil app to manage the process of booking tours for my band and then tracking head counts, merch sales etc over two years ago. At the time, it was really difficult because I lacked most of the skills I needed to complete it but have since developed several comparable CRUD applications at my day job. I'd like to wrap up the MVP and publicly deploy it before the end of the year. Maybe do some blogging about the development process?

Hey everybody! My name is David and I am currently an undergraduate student at UMD. I was recently told that Indie Hackers was a place for me cause I am a co-founder of a start-up called hotglue (check it out at hotglue.xyz). hotglue is a data integartion tool that scales with startups, unlike most traditional tools that cost thousands of dollars just to try.

This community was recommended to me on the basis that people will give honest feedback on our tool! I am excited to keep working on this project and cannot wait to see what IH has to offer me as well as what I can give back. Thanks guys!

Hi, I'm Adam from Australia. I've been building my business since 2012. I have previously run out of money and maxed out my credit cards. I then done contract work for 2 years to pay it all back. I've now saved up some money to give myself some breathing space to work full-time on my business again. I'm now focused on sales and marketing.

I hope to be able to learn from the community and be inspired from the stories of others.

  87. 1

    Hi!
I'm a software engineer I have been for almost 8 years now. I have worked from cooperates to startups and everything from the backend to DevOps. I truly love software engineering - however I recently quit my new job soon after joining, honestly it was a fantastic well known company with amazing compensation, however I came to a realisation that I have not fulfilled my own dreams of creating something.

Right now I'm still unsure of what I want to make I have some ideas though, currently I'm working on my own game with UE4 aswell as brushing up on some rustlang as it is still my favourite language (really wish it was in bigger demand but I hope it will be some day).

In all honesty I have never really felt close ties to a community as I have moved many locations (countries aswell cities - currently I am in Canada Vancouver). I also used to be quite shy regarding things outside of work. I'm looking forward to meeting and learning from like minded individuals! Nice to meet you all :)

I'm here to share my experiences and learn from others!

Hello everyone. I'm a serial product hacker but have often fallen into the trap of building away at a product but miss out the validation phase so have fallen short. I've learnt a load over the years but with my latest idea I'm determined to take is slowly and only put the effort in based on data and market / customer feedback.

Starting out with a simple 3 page MVP https://www.lastingrecord.com - would love some feedback from the IH community.

Hey everyone! I am a 28 year old, Automation Engineer from the UK. My background is mainly tech/software based, with a computer science degree. I am here to find inspiration and the motivation to begin building my own side hustle and hopefully have a product out by the end of the year!

  115. 1

    Hey everyone,

Happy to be around y'all builders!

I'm building a mobile first community app (SaaS).

After spending 10 years in mixed roles in sales, marketing, product development I'm picking up on coding again.

Wish I had picked up on coding as a non tech founder earlier itself! Now I believe every non tech founder should attempt to learn to code.

Some of my interests are SaaS, consumer apps on productivity, education.

Here's how I may be of help.

    1. Eliminating features in your digital products to make it better using #OxygenChocolates factor.

    2. Bring in purple cow effect in your marketing

    Happy time building!

    Cheers!

Hi everyone! Such a lovely community 👋

I'm a freelance product strategy & design consultant, and an amateur FED currently located in Tel Aviv, Israel.

I have been working on HTTP://roundtables.io in my off time for the past year or so, which I mainly did to improve my programming skills, however, I got some interesting feedback from the people I showed it to, which got me curious about whether or not this could be a viable product.

I have SO MUCH appreciation for all of you. Solopranuering is so much harder than I thought - you're my kind of people 💜

I'm currently working on my own newsletter (available at bennettgreen.substack.com) and what will hopefully become a membership based community for corporate counsel (available at www.lindsaystreet.com.au). I've got two other subscription based projects coming along slowly.

It's really exciting to read about all your projects and I'm looking forward to learning from you all in the future :)

That does make me a digital nomad currently and I'm actually quarantined in Colombia (the country). I have an idea I was told to share on here so hoping to get some good Indie Hacking love. Nice to meet y'all!

hiiiiiii I dont have any projects right now :( but I love seeing other ppl work on their stuff!

    Hi there! 👋🏼

I’ve developed a few native Android apps before (https://play.google.com/store/apps/developer?id=Lucas+Barzan) and I earn a little monthly passive income from them.

But now I’m studying and developing some projects with a Javascript-based stack: Typescript, Node.js, ReactJS and React Native (https://github.com/lucasbarzan).

My goal is to create a profitable side project since I’m at university and don’t have time available for a full-time job.

    What's up guys.

I'm Sam, educated as a journalist and now designing a news aggregator that can help people manage the news better, a product that values both credibility and convenience. Sounds like an oxymoron, doesn't it?

Also, working with a friend to design a product that helps microbusinesses in India.

I love the premise of this site, and am hoping to find value in it. I hope you do too.

Hey Rosie and friends at IH....I'm interested in meeting cofounders, growth hackers, and just learning more. Also, happy to share any wisdom I can from my 20+ years in startupland. Started 10+ companies and had a few wins, a few mediums, and a few melt downs. Wish I would have had IH years ago!

Hi everyone! I'm currently working on https://simpleen.io, a service that makes machine translation (MT) more accessible and easier to use for developers and no coders.

For i18n projects you can directly translate different locale files including interpolations (i.e. ngx-translate JSON or Java properties files).
To use it in your no code workflow you can use it with Zapier or Integromat.

Currently, it's in Beta and I try to focus on getting the word out there. To make the service better known. So I write blog posts and hold talks about i18n and Simpleen.
Future improvements will be to adapt more formats, implement more MT services with other languages (currently we provide MT with DeepL) and improve usability.

Another future goal is to implement MT into a headless CMS. Haven't decided on which one or where to start though :-)

If you like to check out the service, I'd love to get some feedback on what to improve and how to help the community to reach more users with a multilingual software product by using Simpleen to translate.

Hey all, I've been plugging away at my side-project for 4 years and we're finally seeing some real success. It's called Passiv, an investing tool that lets you build your own robo-advisor and run it in your own brokerage account. This started as a 50-line python script that I built in a weekend, and now it's helping manage a few hundred million bucks. Check it out here! https://getpassiv.com/

I'm looking to connect with people on the marketing and growth side of things. We recently entered a few new markets and are trying to establish a foothold. Any tips or pointers would be very helpful!

Hi, I'm Derek. I've been a passive consumer of Indie Hackers for years. I've finally joined in! I've been working on a journaling app for myself. I get a text message every morning and write back throughout the day with my thoughts (I wrote on Twitter about it here: https://twitter.com/derekjhopper/status/1295023604632039425).

I've realized there might be a product here, but I'm still building it for myself. My goal is to launch the product by the end of the year. Here's to learning.

Hi all! My name is David, I'm 29 years old from Lisbon Portugal. I'm a Full Stack Software Developer, I've been working as such for the past 10 years for companies of different sizes and in the past few years mostly for startups.

I've used that time and experiences to refine my skills as a technician and also to get to learn general business related lessons from my pears and superiors so I can eventually achieve my real objective to build and run my own tech company.

I'm currently working on a business idea I've been conceptualizing for the past few years, a tech product company tailored for creators of the indie music market.

It's pleasure to join this community of like minded people, looking forward to share and hear from you all.

    Hi,
I own a SaaS company and have multiple products with global customer base.

In almost all the products we faced a similar pain about contacting our customers or users who are using the product.

There are live chat tools in the market, which helps in communicating with customers but they are slow and doesn't give an emotional connect.
So we built a new product https://lp.intueri.io/zipcall/ (ZipCall.us) which let the website visitors to call you from anywhere in the world. It's a browser and app based VoIP solution.

It has IVR to manage call flow, CRM for lead distribution and management along with Helpdesk and marketing automation.
Would love a feedback from the community.

    Thanks,

    Tushar

    Hi All,

Happy to join the community and I hope to help as well as learn from your stories on your journey to starting a business and creating value.

So I am looking to start a profitable business that is based around Space & Art and use it to communicate the benefits of the Space Industry as well as engage their curiosity. I think art and creative expression can be very impactful in shaping people's perspectives. What I want to do with it is create a Brand out this concept. I have started something and did 1 pilot project. This initiative is called Starscape Creative. With this I want to influence people with designing appealing apparel, paintings, putting on media events that inspire people. In essence, build a community that expands globally and attracts people who are not really interested in Space and don't know much about it.

Currently, I am in need of help in terms of how to build this community and how to make it a business. I can't sell products aside from apparel which people won't really buy unless they know about it...Need help with the model.

Any advice or mentorship would be highly appreciated!

Hey IH community, I've been working on a bunch of startups for the last few years and always struggled to keep in touch with friends and family amidst all that business.

I was looking for an intelligent reminder tool to help me stay in touch with the people who matter most to me - so decided with my friends to make a simple phone app for it - nurtureapp.co.uk/android - I'd love to see if this could help other fellow hackers who might be have the same problem!

Any feedback would be awesome, thanks :)

Hey Indie Hacker Community! I'm based out of Portland, OR. I am finance professional who advises post revenue, pre series A startups on how best to accelerate growth and unblock barriers. This is similar to a combination of a Chief Financial Officer and a Chief Revenue Officer. I've helped a startup hit its $1B valuation recently and am about to do the same for another. My goal is partner with 6 startups just entering their initial growth phase and help them launch to beyond a Series A! SaaS, eCommerce, consumer products, F&B, technology, or service industries are industries I have expertise in.

Hello, my name is Cleber Campos, I am an engineer and an application development enthusiast. Now I want to monetize this activity, so I signed up here at Hindie Hackers, looking for information, experiences, partnerships, guidelines, etc., to help me achieve that goal. I already have an enterprise under development, but I don't feel safe to launch the business. I want to have more information and to launch the project safely, with a perspective of duration, growth and financial return.

Hi All, I have been developing an Autoliker for Dating apps (https://app.swipetinder.me).

I am fortunate enough to reach 10k+ downloads with 800+ daily active users. Also, I just made my first $100 last month from this side hustle.

I hope to learn from the community to better build side hustles like these to become financially free.

Hey, that's an interesting project. Just curious to know, how does it give you unlimited likes? Don't the tinder server register the count of likes per day or something.

      1. 1

It kinda does. The app has limits built-in to prevent the user from getting banned. Also, it doe not give you more likes. It's more like a bot that autoswipes right for you.

  196. 1

Hey so after helping CEOs raise $61M+ I'm on a bit of a tear-away mission to make early-stage fundraising more transparent and data-driven. VCs are slowly moving towards remote, global investing and I'm hellbent on helping any founder find their “first check" investor.

So ya, I recently launched raiselikeaboss.com, a global platform and community helping founders sell their vision to investors. As a complimentary service, I launched roastmypitch.com this month. It's a tool which quantifies whether or not a founders pitch deck is ready to send to investors and the likelihood they'll get a meeting.

It's good to be here. I'm keen to improve my knowledge around building a community, automation, productizing a service and inbound marketing strategies.

  197. 1

Hi, I am Stewart and have for longer than I choose to remember, worked with infrastructure and automation, particularly focusing on Linux, open source and latterly, cloud technology.

I have a consultancy business as my day job, but have for a while wanted to work on my own products, rather than someone else's. Whilst I have some ideas, nothing is at the stage of presenting to others yet, however I wanted to get something out there to get me into the habit. I will make a separate post to introduce it (hence emerging from the lurking shadows to sign up :)).

Have always enjoyed the discussions and energy on IH, and hopefully will get more involved now I am fully signed up.

    Cheers.

Is there a way to create a meetup directly on this site? I live in Czech Republic and wanted to create a meetup event here, but the meetup form requires an event URL. But I don't have a meetup.com subscription or even a facebook account, which is why I thought indiehackers would be a great place to get in touch with the local community.

I think it would be good to not require an event URL, but to give us a text box where we could add a phone number or email address so people in the same city could still contact me and we could get together for an informal coffee to plan a more formal event together.

That being said, when I tried to create the event and added Prague as my city it said there are around 90 people in this area. Could there be a way to get in touch with these people and ask who would like to connect so we could create our first meetup here together?

    Hello everyone!

Currently building btfy.io - a simple link shortening service that just works. No bloated features like pixel tracking or marketing ads. It's the link shortening service for everyone regardless of size.

    Top features would be:

    1. Unlimited custom domains. Branded links for all your domains.
    2. Unlimited custom links. No limit on creating your short links.

    Hi all,

I have recently been diving into the SaaS world, and have found Indie Hackers to be a great resource. I have been a backend developer professionally for about 6 years, and have been looking into the ins and outs of how to make my own SaaS. Like most of you, I think, I'd like to someday have enough passive income to make having a job optional. Since most of my experience is with .NET, I am looking at Azure App Services currently.

I also develop video games as a hobby, and have currently released one mobile game, called Outburst, under the company Nightcap Games at nightcapgames.com. I also like to play piano and game.

My goal for this year is to go from learning all this stuff to having released at least one SaaS. Regardless of if that SaaS fails, succeeds, is sold, or whatever, my goal is to simply get to the point of a production release.

Hello everyone, I am a recent computer science graduate and current part-time English teacher looking to explore the applications of my degree for education and or for other projects. I hope to learn more about business, marketing, project best practices, and much more from people that have walked the path that I am hoping to follow.
This year I hope to identify "problems" that I have and attempt to provide solutions for them. Once that is done, I might expand those solutions to be products of some kind. This might involve many smaller projects similar to a "12 startups in 12 months" kind of way.
Outside of the IndieHacker concept, I am also looking to traditional software engineering employment routes while residing outside my home country. Something I am very unsure about given that I only have academic experience.
If you are remote working, doing ESL, or around Taiwan then lets talk!

G'day all! I'm Joey - a (civil) engineer by trade learning how to build no-code apps on bubble.io - and having a bunch of fun so far. Keen to hear if anyone has built on no-code platforms before and any tips/advice. Cheers!

    1. 1

Hi. I was originally destined to be a civil engineer, until life intervened and I speared off in a completely different direction. Really nice to see someone making something happen from a non-traditional dev background. (Sadly not used any of the no-code platforms so of zero help on the advice front, other than to say do give code a chance at some point - these days there are tons of course available, making it more accessible than ever)

      1. 1

Thanks Stewart - yes there's a tonne of resources out there for everything nowadays...you can hop between directions as you like.

    2. 1

Hey Joey, I'm new to the SaaS world, too, and in my research I found this site on Product Hunt that you might find useful, as well: https://trends.vc/trends-0006-no-code/. I'm not affiliated with it or anything, it just had a lot of information to rummage through and I remembered it having this page in particular.

Ola, estou novo na area ...estou aqui para aprender! obrigado pela paciencia!

What's up everyone. Developer and owner/co-owner of a few different SaaS businesses including https://growthcommander.com and https://getwebinarkit.com.

Nice to see a community dedicated to growing businesses, the world definitely needs it right now.

Welcome Phil, your sites look great! It's awesome that you already have multiple SaaS up and running. What did you use for your site creation? They look very simple and clean.

    Hey everyone!

I've recently transformed https://taptimize.com/ from an ASO (app store optimization) tool to a simple rank tracker. Getting my first few users proves a lot more challenging than for my previous business, and I'm sure people in here can relate :)

    Great to meet you!

I am curious brazilian about new technologies nocodes and I want to share my development in the future.

    Hi there,
I go by Martin and am a web enthusiast from Frankfurt, Germany. Longtime web dev freelancer, former Flash developer, and since November employed as the Lead Frontend Engineer at an "enterprise start-up".

I love talking (ranting) about the miserable state of digitalization in Germany and would be glad to find likeminded people who want to change that as well.

I started working on a ToDo-App but struggled to make progress throughout the last 2 months.

My goal is to go on and make steady progress throughout the next months and release an MVP before winter arrives.

    Cheers, Martin

    1. 1

      Hey Martin 👋

Brave of you to mention Flash 😬

What's been stopping you making progress, anything in particular? Hope the next few months are more fruitful for you!

      Sam

      1. 1

        Hi Sam,

well, I am still proud of my flashy heritage and all the crazy and colorful stuff I was able to create with it. The web was more joyful during this time ;-)

Mostly that it is yet another To-Do App and the anxiety about the GDPR and german privacy law held me back releasing it to the public. The current version stores your tasks in the browser and is not shared with a server, which would have been the next step to complete my MVP.

You can find the current prototype version here if you are interested: https://fini-todo-app.martinemmert.io/

        Cheers, Martin

        1. 1

Of course, you've got to be proud of the good old days!

I had a quick look this morning and it looks nice, clean and is pretty snappy, really enjoyed the serif font, makes a change in a world filled with sans!

I wouldn't worry too much about GDPR, especially if everything is local for the time being, you don't appear to be collecting anything at all at the moment! Generally when you start to have things like accounts, as long as you are not collecting anything outside of data required to securely use the app then you should be fine (as long as you have some simple terms on the site). I'm not a lawyer though(!) but I've done a few site reviews in the past. Can't speak for any additional German privacy laws though!

Really hope you are able to finish the MVP and ship something, it's a great feeling.

          Sam

Thanks for your kind words, Sam.
            I really appreciate them 👍

Hey, I’m Tim I live in London UK. I love to help start ups as they grow and love difficult challenges.

My journey... I co-founded a successful start up 12 years ago. Our core offering was a B2B technology platform for the UK property market. We were recently acquired and I'm now looking for new opportunities. Over the last 12 years I led the businesses Product development. I was focused on establishing our new products from the ground up, both technically, overseeing the go to market strategy and product launches. Over the years my main projects were a real estate SaaS platform, curated photography market place and a supply side application for our photographers.

Now I have more free time I am looking for new opportunities to help others become successful and build my personal brand. Give me a shout I'd love to help +447866580336

Here at indie hackers I want to evaluate my idea together with you and maybe find someone collaborate with 🙌
    Nice to meet you all!

    1. 1

      Hi Andi,
your idea sounds interesting to me. Is there a website where you talk more about it?

      Cheers from Frankfurt,

      Martin

        Hi Martin,
I really need to put this up.
I was bikeshedding a bit too much on the tech for the landing page, but I made this a priority now and just get a first page with a vision and roadmap for a broader audience out next week.
Currently you can have a look at the github project "plan", but that is more of a work log..

    Hi everyone,

I work for a marketing agency in Germany. I am looking to slowly build a side project by moonlighting in the early morning - and eventually transition away from regular employment altogether.

Sometimes I worry that there are is an oversaturation of products in the market and the difficulty in creating a new product is increasing. It will be an interesting challenge!

    1. 2

A good thought I've heard recently is to serve the under-served. Many products out there try to serve the same audience and leave certain groups out of the game (companies tend to move up market over time). If you can find those customer segments that don't have a good option for their problem, you might have some luck.

    2. 2

Hey there.. glad to see you've stopped to question. Not many do this.

Saturation is kinda obsolete thing that many cover up using positivity but, its more real than anything.

Still, the human touch a person can provide can help overcome this obstacle..

I wish you best of luck.

I guess this is a common issue with tech founders. We love coding so put in all our efforts to make it work, while ignoring the other important part of the business "the customers".
I am on my third startup and in all of them I always hire a sales and a marketing guy as first hires to help me in overcoming my shortfalls.

Previously, local but now remote. Managing new remote hires is a challenge in itself though.

      Hi Luke!

I think we're in the same boat, hahah. I can definitely relate to the "less time coding, more time marketing" part. Somehow I had no issues finding new users for my previous business, but this one proves a little harder.

      Good luck!
