It is a really terrible sci-fi themed story...but I still have fun adding ~500 words a day to the top of my personal garbage heap. Happy to say I am nearing 80,000 words and will keep meandering until I think up an ending that I like!

Thanks for this. You're absolutely right. I've seen many alternatives, but I've ultimately found that they are clunky, difficult to use, and don't have a sophisticated social system. In addition, I'd like to find ways to handle shipping for users in the future, making the process as seamless as possible.

A jumpless platformer in which you use your dash ability to explore an old man's house and life. I'm eager to learn more about this community :)
Hi! As someone else who enjoys making small games I understand the appeal. Watching something you've made entertain another person can be so rewarding. I have only pushed one game onto a "final" marketplace (Google play store), but continue to work on little things every day.
I find my main issue being the loss of interest in a project once I get past the "fun" part, that being creating the main game loop and the bells and whistles that go along with it. Good luck with your project! The only advice I would pass along is this: get as many finished games under your belt as you can, if I had done that with all the projects I have started and stopped I am sure I would be doing it full time by now!
Thanks for the advise! Right now I "forced" myself to continue with it by gathering a team with an artist and a musician. We don't want to "hustle" too much to release it though (that's a main theme of the game too), but we do encourage each other to progress by sharing our work between ourselves. I estimate that at this pace it will be finished in 2 years or 3 though.
Hey there, I'm Christine. I've been building a little tool, ListenLater.fm over the past year and have recently been able to show it off more publicly. It's a read it later service for your ears -- you send it articles you want to read via email, bookmarklet, or browser extensions, then it adds them to a personal, private podcast feed, so that you can listen to the article when you'd otherwise be listening to a podcast. For me, I've never been able to get in the habit of reading through the articles in a read it later service like Instapaper or Pocket. They just collect dust in an inbox. But I always check my podcast app when I need something to listen to. It's been a great way of throwing articles into a bucket I'll actually check.
I also write a webcomic called Bodies, and run ThisWebsiteWillSelfDestruct.com. I've got a law degree, and my day job involves work in Intellectual Property technology.
I've been listening to the IndieHackers podcast for a few years now, and have been meaning to be more active over here, so I wanted to come and say hello! It's great to meet everyone!

Wow! That's a cool idea, Christine. Those services implement text-to-speech but they didn't seem to think about making a podcast feed. Very interesting. I dig the 'document limit' as opposed to qualitative distinctions based on how much someone pays - doing this with all of my apps too.
FYI the audio demo reads 'A read-it-later service for your ears.' twice in a row, maybe it could sound more fluid once.
The name reminds me of something I wanted to build: a read-it-later for music links… Guess I won't call it ListenLater lol
Thanks for the FYI on the title being read twice. I just implemented some code to automatically refresh that audio demo, and I forgot that the title would end up doing that. I appreciate you mentioning it!
Hi Christine! I love your website and the idea behind you. You seem to lead an extremely busy life. Can I ask how you manage to write and draw a webcomic that publishes regularly, build out cool tech projects while still daylighting as a lawyer (which I assume is more than your standard 9-5)? I have a day job and feel like I'm zapped when I get home.
Sure. So first, the webcomic isn’t updated as regularly as I’d like. I’m currently on a bit of a hiatus, with Patreon billing paused, after I had my first child a few months ago. But even when it’s coming out more regularly, I only write, letter, and market the comic, but I work with an amazing illustrator for the drawings.
I have a JD, but I’m not actually a practicing lawyer. I work in legal tech at a job that I can usually keep to 40ish hours a week. It also gives me the freedom to learn and work with a lot of the technologies I use in my side businesses.
As for getting things done when I get home? It takes time and some weeks are more productive than others for me. I don’t beat myself up if I’m not working on something every day. And I’ve got enough irons in the fire that sometimes it’s easier to say ‘I’m too wiped out to do X, because it requires I’m in a thoughtful mood, but I can work on formatting and lettering the next few pages of the webcomic since that mostly just requires me to stare at design software for an hour somewhat mindlessly. Sometimes that works well, but it’s also easy for a project to get dropped. That’s just something I’ve accepted. I start about 5-10x the number of things I finish. I’m okay with that, and I just basically accept that some things don’t get done because I either don’t have the mental bandwidth or don’t actually have the interest in them I think I do.
Wow, it's inspiring that you are doing all that in addition to taking care of a child and working 40 hours a week!
I can definitely identify with having a list of 'less mindful' work to do when I'm low on energy - sometimes it makes me feel productive and sometimes I feel like I should just stop trying to be productive haha.
I also think it's cool that you accept whether you're able to work on something or not - my strategy has been 'just try to do one thing a day' if all else fails.
Nice to hear this more mindful approach, not so common in the world of startups.

Background...cofounded a DTC startup in 2012 called Top & Derby (topandderby.com), which makes design-driven home healthcare products (canes, compression socks, etc)
In 2019, I started jamming on a side project with a couple of pals – the company is called Thisten (thisten.co). It started as an audio to text transcription platform for making live events and conferences more accessible
We pivoted when covid hit, and turned the platform into a self serve SaaS product for transcribing podcasts, video calls, etc. Now, the platform runs on its own and is a fun thing to watch grow, drip by drip :)

Hi, I'm Jordan, and I just started working on a dating profile improvement website that allows people to compare their own profiles to others in similar cohorts - Like SEO for online dating.
The goal is to enable the same kind of competitive analysis used by marketers to find out what tactics work at getting companies noticed, and apply it to your own online dating persona. I've found that there is no way to benchmark the performance of a dating profile because all the useful comparative data is kept secret and proprietary by the dating apps to fuel their matching algorithms. There is no transparency, and I hope to change that.
My most relevant experience is leading sales and biz dev at a VR Medtech startup from 0 to 3M in ARR as Dir. of Sales from 2014-2019. I don't code, so I'm focusing on building a prototype using NoCode tools while I work on initial monetization and growth strategy. I hope I make some fruitful connections here!

I do lots of coaching and help calls with people using Adalo and found that many times, people just need a sounding board for ideas, someone to hold them accountable, or some technical help. This led me to start developing Spitball. My mission is to connect people in a more positive way - by having face-to-face chats about what makes us similar rather than keyboard wars over what makes us different. My name is Cade, i’m a proficient coder that’s trying to learn the business side fast.
For the past decade or so i’ve been building SaaS startups with varying degrees of success.
My most recent attempt is to do things backwards (against everyone’s advice) and build a platform that does everything (CRM+CMS+IaaS kind of thing...) instead of starting with a single niche problem, and then work with it to build other products. The result is a cloud based ‘swiss army knife’ of sorts. And a few different SaaS platforms on top of it.
It’s been a hit in a number of verticals, but being naive and not super savvy on the ‘business’ side i’m learning as fast as i can how to get across sales, marketing and growth hacking.
One of the products built on it (www.fluro.io) is currently sold as a church management platform, has ~200 organisations as customers (15,000 daily active users) and is earning ~300k a year. But it’s very slow growth having done no advertising and purely been relying on word of mouth or sales methods that don’t scale (phone calls, etc).
I’m here looking to learn, change behaviours and get an acquisition funnel humming.

Hi all, Kelby here founder of Side Quest Laboratory (website a work in progress). I enjoy spending time working on small games and have published one game to the Google Play Store. I am also working on my writing skills and I figured the best way to do that was to do exactly that, write! So, I have been writing around 500 words daily on a sci-fi story. Not exactly loving the story itself so far, but I enjoy putting words on the page.
My goal is to continue to complete game projects and get as many under my belt as I can. At the moment I am working on a game where you manage a gem store with items gathered from "field expeditions". I plan on including some simple crafting and goals to give the player more things to do and just make the game feel more lively.
I would say my biggest challenge so far has been sticking to a project to completion. I tend to lose interest once I finish the "fun" part of getting a game off the ground. Everything seems to grind to a halt once I stop advancing by leaps and bounds and instead move with hops and skips. I have been starting and stopping projects for about 4 years now, hoping to break out of that cycle in 2021!

My friend Phil and I have been building a bot platform for automating tasks in chat (among other things) called Abbot. We both spent a lot of time writing scripts for Hubot when we were at GitHub together and wanted to build the next generation of that. We think Abbot might be useful to Indie Hackers specifically since it makes sketching out ideas for Slack integrations extremely simple (often 15 minutes from idea to working and deployed chat script).
Really love how much the community here helps each other out, and looking forward to contributing where I can!

I'm using Ghost for memberships and also as a writing platform. The membership features are still technically in beta, but they work pretty well.
Some things are currently lacking (e.g. built-in commenting, for which I'm using cove.chat, and things like welcome emails, for which I use Mailgun / Zapier). But I like the simplicity of Ghost, and the seamless way you can link writing, publishing and sending out subscriber newsletters.
I don't have huge direct experience of Patreon as a creator, and it may be more flexible in some ways. But after two months of playing with Ghost, so far I'm pretty happy.
Very cool, thanks for sharing! I was worried it would involve a 'Sign in with Ghost' type of thing, but it seems to be completely branded with your project. Looks well-integrated.

Thank you for your thoughtful response! I really appreciate that you took time to review my post and took a look to Nitoku's landing page. I agree with most of your points, I am aware of those issues and trying to fix them.
Also, I am sorry that when I said 'mix & match your favorite apps inside your documents' I confused you. What I now call apps are called Markdown blocks on the landing page. Nitoku's markdown blocks are powerful enough, that I have recently decided to call them apps. We still need to update the documentation and the landing page to reflect this. Apologies.
For example, one of Nitoku's apps integrate the gitter chat application with Nitoku. To use gitter on a page we just need to insert the reference to this app ( @nitoku.public/gitter ) and then your gitter chat id.
E.g, the following markdown block definition 👇 will add the chat to the page.
You can see it working here. And it is not a demo, if you create an account in Nitoku you can add the gitter chat app to your pages. It is fully functional.
The gitter chat app has been created in the platform and the source code is there. Any user of Nitoku can get the the source code and create their own app as well.
Our main issue is that though the platform is fully functional, and our current users are quite happy with how it works. The on-boarding is unfortunately appalling :( Therefore, it is very very difficult to get new users into the platform. Need to work on it, but to be honest is quite unrewarding. My current users don't give a damn about on-boarding or about calling the apps "markdown blocks" or "apps". They understand the platform, use it daily, have no issues with it and what they want is new functionality. When I develop something new they get super happy and I love that.
Thank you again for your response. I think it will take a bit of time but I will definitely get a better onboarding experience in 2021.

So, I started building my own thing. Initially, it was only the backend, then I created the front end and set it up as SAAS. My solution It’s an easy in-depth social analytics service.

Hi there, I am Christian. I am into SaaS product and software development for over 13 years now. On my way I had the chance to co-found some SaaS startups and help other companies and startups in realising their SaaS ideas.
My latest project is a SaaS Development Kit called Carrot Seed SaaS Kit (www.cnc.io/seed) which help developers who are not familiar with all the aspects of building a fully fledeged SaaS product to get started quickly (hours instead of months) with a ready-to-run source code boilerplate and to help them focus on their core business while Carrot Seed takes care of all the other needed SaaS architecture and code customers expect from a state-of-the-art SaaS product nowadays.
I am here at indiehackers to help with my experience in creating digital products and services and also interested in discussing different perspectives, approaches how people build SaaS solutions and also what bothers them most when doing so.

Yes, shareholder always wants to see business value from the first minute and usually don't get how much effort you need to invest to provide a solid technical foundation for a growth-ready SaaS product which is still maintainable in the long term. With Carrot Seed we have pre-invested this effort so that everybody who uses it can get business value from day 1.
Had a look at your project www.webdab.com. Looks very interesting, sentiment analysis is IMO so important in brand monitoring.

Hey hackers, hope you are doing well. I have been working on a small project for past 4 weeks now, I named it TubeGrub. How I got started working on it was, when I felt there was a need of a better way of bringing food to life rather than looking at pictures in all the food delivery app. I thought about it furiously and the project actually morphed into something totally different. What we are mainly trying to acheive is to bring all the dining experience of sitting in a restaurant on to your phone. I actually thought about what a restaurant really is in first principles and there are quite some things that we havnt actually seen in the wild. I like to keep short deadlines and goals, and hopefully by end of december I shall do a soft launch in my home town. Fingers crossed :)

This is awesome. I'm always interested in administrative style startups in well developed industries. My day job is all about legal tech and solving legal administration issues effectively, so I'm always interested in how other industries are being improved by indiehackers.

Unfortunately most of what I work on at the day job isn't something I can talk about too freely. But it's one of those things where I'm a programmer and have a law degree, so I use my domain knowledge to help automate and verify a lot of tasks that are either fairly routine or have large liability concerns if done inaccurately.
