What are you working on this month?

With every new month comes a new chance to talk about what you're working on and meet other founders.

Here's how you can join the discussion:

  • First, respond to someone else who's commented, just to say hello or leave them some feedback!
  • Next, leave your own comment describing what you're working on (or aspiring to work on), and your biggest goal for October.

That's it!

Excited to hear from everyone and see what you're working on!

I am preparing to launch Astrola - After working on it pretty much every day for 7+ months, it's almost good to ship 🤞

    Product - https://astrolahq.com
    Quick overview blog post: https://hq.astrolahq.com/blog/welcome-to-astrola

    1. 2

✨ Nice landing page! Great look and length, looks perfect on my mobile.

    2. 2

That's a pretty great landing page, has a basecamp kind of feel to it! Good luck!!

      1. 1

Thanks @Barakcodes! Funnily enough, I don't use Basecamp, but can see the similarity. I am tired of bloated landing pages all looking the same, so went for something cleaner :)

    3. 2

      Seems like a great app!

Do you currently have beta testers? Do you plan a big launch?

      1. 2

Hey @nclsmrz! Thank you. No beta testers yet, I've been sorting some last min core things on the backend before I'd like people to test. Once that's sorted (hoping this week) I'll email my mailing list and get initial feedback from them. After that, the idea is to push the usual channels and get my blog posting sorted for organic growth!

      2. 1

Look like it's gonna be a sleek product! Super fast, amazing! See the value proposition, but feel a little naive to develop this much without any beta users!

        1. 1

Thanks @phuctm97! I've been using the product myself as I build, the goal is to get people in for testing via my mailing list, then go from there :)

    4. 2

Pretty sleek landing page, looks very nice!

      Good luck with shipping 🤞

    5. 2

Sup? What has inspired you to build this lovely app?

      1. 1

Hey @daveyon! Astrola was built to help my struggle growing previous SaaS apps. Adding documentation, feedback, roadmaps, changelogs and blogs felt like a chore. I'm a dev first, so always got burnt out at this stage - hoping to help others in the same situation once we launch soon!

        1. 2

It's really great, I could say your product is awesome just from how you bring out the value you offer on the landing and in your product demos!

          1. 1

Good to hear @Dinakar! Here's hoping launch goes well, it's a nervous time :)

        2. 1

Awesome! I'll keep an eye on it as I, too, struggle the same.

          1. 2

Welcome to join the email waiting list (just turned it back on, on the landing page). Will be a 14-day trial to let you give it a try :)

    6. 1

Looks good, good landing page. simple and straight forward

    7. 1

Scott, thought some constructive feedback on the demo might be helpful. I had trouble finding out what you guys do!

I clicked your demo link, got a bit confused as to why I didn't see a video, or clear instructions. I clicked on "Base" to learn more, but once there, the effort was too much for me to learn more. I came back here clicked your blog and almost instantly had a better understanding of what you guys offer.

I think basically you just lost my attention! Perhaps that is a just me thing, but I figured I would bring it to your attention. Hope this was helpful :)

      1. 1

Thanks for the feedback @ColinWithProspre! Good point! The intension is most folk would be hitting the landing page first with the video etc, but maybe I could add a "learn how Astrola works" type message on our own demo page. The demo is also "our" knowledge base etc, so I can see why that's not clear initially. Cheers!

    8. 1

I noticed that you use hotjar on your website.
It this tool useful on landing page?

      1. 1

It's useful to see where visitors are clicking most. For example, a lot of people were clicking the headings into the feedback section rather than the link. I wouldn't have known that without HotJar!

  2. 10

This month, I'm working on a free offering for Logology. We noticed that a lot of people don't have money for a logo as they start work on their MVP, but they still want their app to look credible and sharp. We figured out a way to provide personalized brand guidelines, a nice font only logo, and all the assets you need to get started, quickly and free. Very excited to release it here soon, as we think it can bring tons of value to the community :)

    1. 3

So nice to hear you're working on a free tier, I have followed Logology since it was featured on IH tweet. I could say you guys have worked on a lot of designs from then on. Is it like free font logo with a requirement to attribute Logology? Something that freepik does.

      1. 2

Oh that's interesting, we didn't even think of that 😅. That's a great idea to generate free traffic, we'll definitely ask people to do so!

    2. 2

I really love your landing page. It's so unique and eye-catching. 😀

    3. 2

Your landing page is really unique. Well done :)

    4. 2

This is great I would however try to get your logos showcased a little nicer, maybe have some hero shots or something.

      1. 1

Thanks for taking a look 🙏 You mean on the homepage or when you pick a logo? Right now we're working on a page that displays the full logo + branding you choose on a website / app / business card.

    5. 2

Cool website, and very useful for startups and founders. We used logojoy back in the day for TapeReal, but I felt like some of the designs were too machine generated. I like that you have the perspective of real designers/art directors involved. I might even give the questionnaire a try just to see what comes out! :)

      1. 1

Thanks! We don't have any designs on the topic of "memory" at this stage, but maybe things like books (in the education category) or an abstract designs could evoke what your app does in a cool way. Give it a go! :)

    6. 2

I love this website. You'll get a ton of users by allowing a free version :)

      1. 2

Thank you Alexandro, ahah I hope so!

    7. 2

This is really neat! Love how it's streamlining the whole process!

    8. 2

This absolutely stunning amazing I'm so going to use this. See I haven't gotten around to do my icon yet so I just used some font. Definitely, something I'm keeping in my toolbox.

    9. 2

      That sounds great!

    10. 2

      Design is on point. Clean.

    11. 2

Looks pretty good, not looking for a logo, but will try it out!

    12. 2

Really cool, I like how you ask branding questions at the beginning!

  3. 5

I'm participating in the Just F*ing Ship It challenge from Womenmake.

Going to do something useful for the remote work community via https://remoteleaf.com

    1. 1

Remoteleaf's landing page is pretty good. It tells me what it does, very specifically and concretely, so I can immediately tell if it's for me or not.

The only section I'd get rid of is "not another job board". After I know what it is, I might want to know how it works, and then upon seeing the ask, just signing up.

      Looks good so far.

      1. 1

Thank you so much for the feedback. Do you want to remove the title "Not another job board" or you just want to remove the whole section?

        1. 1

I would say the entire section. I think you're attempting to differentiate. But you've already said that it was for remote jobs, and you can tailor it to me. Is there another differentiation you need to set your value proposition?

          1. 1

Got it, I'll make a note of it. Thanks for your feedback.

    2. 1

Nice, I've never heard of Womenmake before. The challenge seems like an awesome idea (especially for people like myself who've hesitated to ship things before). Excited to see what you build!

      1. 2

Yeah, it encourages to do something with a time constraint. So that we no longer spend years to do it :)

    3. 1

I just heard of that from a female founder friend of mine. Keep shipping! I like the landing page for Remote Leaf, looks clean. I am looking for part-time remote work myself, do you have such?

      1. 2

Hi Sumit, At this time we are only focused on full-time remote jobs. We might cover the part-time jobs in the future.

Thank you so much for your feedback about the landing page. 🙏 Please recommend people whoever looking for remote work!

  4. 4

Working on decent.social, an ad-free, privacy-first Twitter reading experience!

Would love to get some feedback (as it's in the early stages) and signups to try out the product soon (for free in the beta!)

    1. 2

I signed up! I like the concept, let's see if I like more Twitter using decent.social.

I like the page too, it's very clear and straight to the point. I didn't ask myself once "what is it about?". No animation for me to focus on the content. Great job!

      1. 1

Well, thank you very much Matthieu!

    2. 1

      looks cool, signed up

  5. 4

After normal working hours, I work on an app that I actually use: an expense app. After getting paid, I was broke, not literally. I need to see where my money was going, like, "down to the last penny", to who, when, where and why. I wanted to see where I could cut back or cut all. It's not public as it's just for me. It looks like this but will change over time: https://twitter.com/sylarruby/status/1311022788707332097/photo/1

I'll make it public but not before few months of usage.

  6. 4

Working on Coulf, a private community for indie product makers, founders and internet entrepreneurs. The goal is to launch this month (oct not may lol) with fair amount of resources for my members. I'm building this without an existing audience/following, so the challenge is getting the first few members. Looking to provide and get feedback from fellow IHers.

    1. 2

Hey man, you already have the first adopter here, Tag me when you launch

      1. 1

Thanks, I'll personally reach out to every indie maker that signed up when launched.

    2. 1

Nice landing page! Best of luck with the community and its future!

      1. 1

Haha, thanks to no-code website builders. I like the idea behind your product decent.social just that I feel there's so much text at start, especially the text under Why decent is unnecessarily highlighted is what I feel.

    3. 1

Best of luck! I'm a huge fan of communities, am actually thinking of launching one myself, and have seen how difficult, but rewarding, it can be :)

      1. 1

It would be easy if we build to sell lol. Notifications on for your Twitter let me know when you launch, if possible.

    4. 1

Just signed up. I'll look into it and give you my detailed feedback later.

      1. 1

Thanks, I'll personally reach out at launch. Your landing page for podclip.tk looks pretty neat, and you sure have listened to feedback from IH, only that I'm not your audience so idea how it'll work.

    5. 1

Hi Dinakar, I just signed up. I'm very curious to see how this turns up. So far I don't really understand how valuable it can be compared to indiehackers though, is it the same thing but private?

      1. 2

Yeah, I know that landing page doesn't bring out the value I intend, it's something I quickly put up while I'm focusing on building things internally. A few months after launch, it can however be compared with IH tho, not in terms quantity but of quality, I aim the same/better level of quality with IH. Yes, private, privacy-focused, access to free tools, project discussion sessions, and many more, you'll see :)

        1. 1

Will it be free or paid? Looking forward to my invite.

          1. 1

It'll be rude if I don't honor my early members by giving a free plan. So, free to you. I sure will personally reach out to founders at launch, lookout for an email or twitter dm. Tbh, I planned a reach out via Twitter to Logology founders :) glad you signed up.

            1. 1

Ahah awesome! Way ahead of you 😉

  7. 3

My wife and I are building a digital product to help people get really good at making 3 to 5 course meals in their own homes. I've worked in tech my whole career, she's a trained chef that's opened a couple restaurants, so we're using quarantine-time to try to build something together.

It's fun and I get to eat lots of delicious food while she's testing the menus :)

    1. 3

It's awesome to be able to work with one's spouse!

      1. 2

We both work for the same day job, too! Different functions (it's a 35,000 person company, after all), but have been doing so since 2015. Working with her is awesome. I'm not sure she'd say the same about working with me, tho!

    2. 1

That’s amazing to use this time build something together. The cooking/baking works has exploded in these times. I manage digital marketing team for one of the largest grocers and I can tell you the trend is there and it’s not stopping. Good luck! Definitely tag me in, so can try it :)

    3. 1

That sounds like a delicious product! What are you working on next - will there be a landing page we can check out soon?

      1. 1

The first experiment is already live and can be found at www.thedinnerpartyplanner.com. We've provided 2 "analog" versions (downloadable PDFs) of complete 3-course menus. It's hosted on Podia, which rocks.

This experiment is intended to help us answer this question: Does this approach help people make a multi-course meal for friends and family?

I'm currently rebuilding the landing page based off feedback from early customers. We'll use that landing page to test our next question: Can we communicate about this in a way that resonates with people?

        1. 1

I just took a look! I didn't check but your menu photos are quite aesthetic and look like they would do well on Pinterest.

Very cool - would love to see the next version!

  8. 3

I am re-launching my now almost a year old bootstrap and vue components library and administration template. I had some bad luck last time, I bought a domain without checking it's history. That domain was blacklisted on google, I tried to contact them to remove the penalty, but unfortunately they didn't do that. Yesterday I came up with new name for this project and bought a fresh domain enzymeui.com. This month I am planning to add few more components, create better demos and start spreading the word about it.

    1. 1

This comment was deleted 3 years ago.

      1. 1

Google had it marked as "pure spam" which is the highest of possible penalties by google. The process to remove this "pure spam" mark is quite hard so it was cheaper to simply rename the project and buy new domain. From now on I am always going to check the history of domain that I am intending to purchase.

  9. 3

I'm working on https://www.queuey.dev, a platform that lets you manage your waitlist for your product via a super simple dashboard and API. My plan is to keep up to date with everything going on using indiehackers daily standup and #buildinpublic 😊

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

    1. 1

I finally see you decided to use the messaging "waitlist". I'll wait to see it on the landing page. The landing page still needs some design. Let's keep each other accountable I'm making stuff too.

      1. 1

TOV starting out is finding what sticks. Still in the process of works best to convey the message. All the best! 😊

  10. 3

Currently looking at adding either Team Members or an API interface into our already feature packed zubbit.io - but at the moment we cannot decide which one would be more worth spending the time one! Decisions... decisions... 😊 any thoughts gratefully received.

    1. 2

Hey Ron. Would be happy to share a thought :) I hope it's useful. When I first went on the landing page, all of the main text above the fold was lost on me, I didn't know what it was, until I clicked around and scrolled up and down, and once I read that little bit of text that says "zubbit is a URL Link Shortener", then I had the AHA moment. Then I re-read the rest of the text and took it in. Congrats on the MRR so far!

      1. 1

Thank you for sharing... this is very useful for us and we will review what is being shown above the fold.

  11. 3

Working on Pageably that publishes Notion pages (blogs, personal websites, etc). It's been in private beta for a while now but hoping to release it soon!

Also working on some courses/content this month, as an exercise to write down my knowledge on SQL, data science, software contracting.

    1. 2

Notion seems to be really taking off in popularity - so it really seems like the perfect time to be building something like this!

    2. 2

Pageable looks very interesting, love the idea. Seems like a great solution for no-code indiehackers. Really curious to see the release version.

Quick note, the link you added is broken.

      1. 2

Thanks! 😊 And for your heads up, corrected link now!

  12. 3

This month I'm trying to get my first customer on Next Hangout. The tool which is monetised allows community owners to collect memberships for access to live events run by them, this unlocks for them an MRR.

For example, a yoga teacher with 200 engaged followers on IG can offer memberships for scheduled classes through the week. Or a beauty influencer on IG can offer premium workshops, etc.

Sort of a mix of non-explicit Onlyfans, Patreon and Meetup for live events

    1. 1

Does Next Hangout provide video streaming? What other tools do I need to use along with it? I love the idea, btw. I do a lot of teaching and prefer to do it live instead of pre-recorded courses, but organizing live sessions is tricky!

    2. 1

I'm also trying to get my first customer, so I can feel your pain! Sounds like a great idea.

    3. 1

Nice! Onlyfans for X is gonna be the new cool thing for a while. Seems like a great way for small influencers / teachers to gain more financial stability. Good luck!

  13. 2

i'm launching a new email newsletter! it'll go "live" tomorrow!

  14. 2

I am doing a second (paid) version of my icon kit: SMPLKit. I got a great response from my first version, so really looking to step it up.

    1. 1

      Love the minimalism!

  15. 2

I'm currently trying to figure out if people are interested in Tag My Knowledge.

    1. 1

      How you are doing that?

      1. 1
        • Fix some minor issues with the app that I noticed since the last release
        • Rewrite the app store descriptions
        • Try to get traffic to the page and see how many people would buy the premium plan
        • A/B test different headlines, prices, buttons and maybe even videos using Google Optimize

Currently I don't know where to get enough traffic from though. Probably there's no way around ads :/
I do get a few clicks here and there from posts & comments on reddit, but it's not really reliable

  16. 2

After dropping my side project, I’m learning ReactJS for the next couple weeks :D

    1. 2

Nice. After you get the hang of React, check out NextJS. It makes building React apps a breeze.

      1. 1

Yeah, I've heard about it a lot and it looks pretty cool. I'm currently using create-react-app as I learn the fundamentals.

        Thanks for the tip!

  17. 2

I am currently on Day 6 of my 100DaysOfNoCode journey and my progress can easily be seen here 👉https://airtable.com/shrIFkAFuJwlQtOL1

I plan to use a wide range of tools and iterate on things I find interesting whilst using the building in public momentum to track progress

    1. 2

      That's awesome. Keep going!

    2. 1

This is really cool! I'm not technical and am looking to start a 100 days of code journey so it's interesting to see what others are doing. I realize yours is NoCode which is really relevant as well since I've been playing around with this - I'll definitely follow your journey to see where you can take NoCode!

      1. 1

        Yeah jump on board @xtyc

It's really easy to get started. If you need a young bit of motivation I wrote about the main reasons I decided to do the challenge👉 https://blog.jayyoms.com/challenging-yourself-to-build-more-with-no-code/

  18. 2

I'm focused on growing the audience for Just Go Grind, my DAILY podcast interviewing entrepreneurs and investors, and figuring out the revenue model outside of sponsorships (Which I have a couple, but don't want to completely rely on).

    Listen on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/just-go-grind-with-justin-gordon/id1397036566?mt=2
    Listen on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/2brgfQPQQiBiFlAI8sJblD

  19. 2

Submitted my first shopify app... it's still in review, so this month I am going to focus on landing page, and maybe some more features in the app

  20. 2

First up continuing to make the Downtime Monkey monitoring engine more efficient. I got half way through this last month before getting side-tracked working with the Twitter API to automate a lot of what I do on Twitter, which leads to...

Second I'm working on an MVP for Twitter management as a service - I do a lot of Twitter for various projects and some clients that I provide SEO services for. It can be quite repetitive and time consuming so I have written a bunch of scripts which I'm testing on some of my own Twitter accounts to automate the simple stuff - after that I'll roll it out to existing clients before putting it out there.

If this is the sort of thing that you'd be interested in (or if you think it's a silly idea) then let me know...

  21. 2

I’m working on Product Names, the idea is to tweet out available names you can use for inspiration or new projects 🚀 I launched here on IH a few weeks ago and going great so far. Current goal is to continue growth, feel free to share your thoughts!

    1. 4

Feel like you and @dagorenouf have products that would work great together.

First product names, then Logology, and then Pageably (@logicalicy). Haha you guys will help people get off the ground and running!

      1. 1

You're on point! We've been thinking we should offer name ideation for a long time, but it's just not our core product. There's probably a packaged deal possible here somewhere :)

      2. 1

Great point! Could be onto something here 🤔

    2. 2

Are you thinking of making it into an actual product (ie: website)?

      1. 2

Maybe, that or perhaps a newsletter down the line. As I’m in the early stages, building an audience, etc. feel like Twitter works well for that

    3. 2

My only problem: buying too many domain names I'll never use if I subscribe! But it's a very cool idea.

      1. 1

😂 I hear ya! Thanks for the kind words

    4. 2

That is the simplest, clearest useful idea that a Twitter based account can do. Are you a solo founder? Who comes up with the ideas?

      1. 1

🙏 Thanks! I’m a solo founder and come up with the names myself. Cool you pointed out simplicity, that’s definitely a goal here. Twitter makes everything easy for all.

  22. 2

I'm adding a few more blocks to Formito.com such as Payment, Upload, and Screen blocks. Also, add more pages to my website to prepare for a ProductHunt launch.

    1. 1

Answering "No" results in "Sounds great".
I would have found it hilarious if the answer was:

"What? I didn't quite catch that. What was your answer again?"

like the professor in those old pokemon games when you didn't want to do their stupid requests

      1. 2

haha, I'm just respecting any answer. But that's a good idea, I'll create another flow for people who answers "No" to keep them in a conversation and eventually show them most of the blocks :D

        1. 2

You'd have to look up the exact quote though if you take it. It might be "What did you say?" at the ebd

  23. 2

I'm working on my new product trying to prove the concept https://podclip.tk. The Indie hacker community has been so generous to give me amazing feedback on my landing page I'm going to continue working on it and launching the initial product MVP. Any one want to be accountable buddies and keep each other accountable, maybe even a weekly standup or something?

  24. 2

I am going to start to promote my newsletter, Customer Fitted. I am currently sending weekly marketing & growth playbooks for free.

I am also going to start working on a paid product (maybe a course, maybe a paid version to the newsletter) that will complement these playbooks with the addition of Airtable templates, canvas, worksheets, and more.

    1. 2

Cool! Will this be largely B2B focused? Or will there also be B2C content?

      1. 1

I promote mainly to B2B to niche down my audience but most of the resources can be used for B2C.

  25. 2

Finishing up the development of Howitzer. Looking forward to start doing free Reddit marketing campaigns and case studies for few IndieHackers projects this month.

    1. 1

Wow! Reddit is honestly a goldmine if you can 'figure it out'. Would love to test it out!

      1. 1

Will notify you when the product is ready! Would be glad to receive your feedback on it!

  26. 2

I'm currently working on trying to grow SkinSort. Pretty happy with where it is now as a product - just need to start getting users and more feedback!

    1. 1

Hey @jacoblab - I signed up to IndieHackers just to comment on SkinSort. Such a fascinating problem- and many monetization paths done well. I’m not the target audience, but found the landing page particularly clear.

I’ve experienced the problem you’re solving through my wife, who had been buying the wrong products for years until I convinced her to visit a dermatologist, who introduced a brand new (effective, this time) routine for her. There’s so much pseudo-science and hype from brands and influencers in the space, and so little dermatology knowledge from sales clerks in stores that finding reliable, factual information in the space is a full-time job. Best of luck with everything! 🙌

      1. 1

Hey Theo! Welcome to IH 🎉

Thanks so much for checking out SkinSort, it means a lot.

You're right that there is so much inaccurate info out there in the cosmetics field. My girlfriend has been doing all of the research for SkinSort from actual scientific papers to ensure that we've got accurate and up-to-date info. It's certainly been a time-consuming job for her!

Happy to hear that the landing page was clear as well - it's my first time writing copy like that and it's definitely been through quite a few revisions at this point :)

Thanks again, and welcome to the IH community!

    2. 1

I really like the idea behind this. Skincare can be immensely confusing and I probably went down a rabbit hole trying to understand The Ordinary's product line and figuring out what I needed.

I also like the fact that there's a review section. Although having a list of the unbiased information for ingredients is important, I usually depend on the reviews section just to get third party verification.

How are you planning on growing this? Reddit has a pretty huge skincare community.

      1. 1

Thanks! Skincare is super confusing, and keeping up with new products and stuff is very time-consuming.

I think the reviews will be helpful too, especially when we start getting more people adding them. On sites like Sephora, a lot of companies will pay for positive reviews, so it can be hard to fully trust the ones on there.

We're going to try to share the site with the skincare subreddits, although I've been trying to get permission from the moderators with no response so far. The site is pretty well optimized for SEO as well, but that'll take time (and more backlinks) before it begins to pay off.

Facebook groups are another avenue we're trying, as there are a ton of 20k+ member skincare groups on there.

        1. 1

Completely agree. That's what we're trying to base our site on - trusted reviews, since there is a small aspect of mistrust that's arising as a result of all the sponsored reviews out there.

We're looking at Reddit as well but as you mentioned - it's definitely a tough crowd there!

:) Would love to stay in touch since there's definitely parallels between our products (we're building a site for sharing travel recommendations between friends). We're also Canadian as well!

          1. 1

Woo fellow Canadians! I've been living in Kyrgyzstan since March, but am heading home to Ottawa in November - can't wait to eat some poutine :)

I ended up sharing SkinSort on Reddit last week on /r/InternetIsBeautiful, and it blew up! Was on the top of the subreddit for a day and got over 80,000 pageviews from it. There were certainly a few people who weren't too friendly, but in general, the response was great. Gonna make a post here on IH on how I did it soon! But in general, I find having a personal approach ("I made" rather than "We made") works well.

Your site idea sounds awesome! I've spent the majority of the last two years travelling, so if you need any feedback I'd be happy to help out! I'm most active on insta @jacoblab1 if you want to stay in touch!

            1. 1

Just found your post! That's amazing - congratulations. Reddit seems really tricky, since there's Reddit has quite a stance on being anti-self promotion so trying to figure out how to avoid having posts taken down!

Would love to read your How-To post when it's ready.

That would be awesome! Our site is www.travoshare.com - would love to see what you think (also DM'd you on IG)!

    3. 1

Good name - I found it intriguing and tried to have a look at this but got a timeout error.

      1. 1

That's strange! I'll take a look at the logs and try to figure out what happened. It seems to be up again now, there must've been a short period of downtime when you checked.

        1. 1

Still having problems for me - might be an SSL issue as times out on https and if I force plain http it gets blocked by my ISP for "malware and phishing". Hope this helps!

          1. 1

Do you happen to use VirginMedia or BT-Light as your ISP?

I ended up stumbling upon https://www.blocked.org.uk/ and checking the domain, and it seems it was randomly blocked by those two. I've submitted an appeal so hopefully that gets it unblocked.

            1. 1

My ISP is Sky but probably the same issue that triggered Virgin and BT

  27. 2

After checking Adam Wathan talk about product launch I finally got it how to build audience in twitter, at least for me. Planning 30 tweets for this month right now

Another thing that I should do years ago - publish my chatbot platform to the public. We use it for years for our projects but never done it. I think this was the first bot platform in 2014, for telegram for sure, but it was not published right away, and then there was manychat and then chatbot hype goes down, so I just shelved the idea.

I still wonder is it useful for anyone besides me, so I packed a simple landing page to measure that: API.chat - API-first chatbot platform for developers. The goal here to get at least 200 interested people, then it will make sense to invest more time into it.

    1. 1

Looks interesting! After looking at the landing page, I don't fully understand it. If it helps, could I ask for a direct and simple example here? :)

      1. 1

And I thought it's absolutely clear. Bummer
        Thanks for the feedback though

An example might be like that:

Let's take some synthetic example - server status monitoring.
And let's say you want a chatbot in slack to monitor this server. It might be ping or some GetStatus REST endpoint.

And you want to build it yourself because out-a-box solutions do not work with your server or whatever.

The main thing - you are a developer who needs a chatbot.

Chatbots are not the hardest thing to build though. Get a python or any language you like, relevant library, check messenger API, get hosting, and you build this one in a day or two.
If you need some extra things, like "language understanding" add an extra day or two to add relevant services.

        or

use api.chat to do all this for you - just write an XML scenario of the chatbot for like 20 minutes and done - your bot is ready.

that's the idea, does it make any sense?

        1. 2

          That's much clearer now, thanks!

"Don't code your chat bot from scratch, we've set up the boilerplate for you. Jump straight to the part that's specific to your use case."

As a passing idea: you could use imagery to convey it super concretely.
Something like this: An image on the left (showing colourful configuration with a few words visible). Then a big arrow from left image to right image. Right image: screenshot of a chat bot conversation with a tiny bit of back and forth.

CTA button: Edit a live example now (no login required)

If I needed a chat bot, I'd totally click that to play around with it, to see how it worked :) However, I might not pay, unless I was working at an agency (for example), or just someone that pumped out chat bots all the time for others.

Hope this is interesting and useful!

          1. 1

Don't code your chatbot from scratch, we've set up the boilerplate for you

            This is perfect, thank you!

  28. 2

Trying to launch wikidoc.io on the GitHub Marketplace. Free plan only for now, since GitHub is a bit restrictive when it comes to launching paid apps.

Mostly focusing on the onboarding experience now, also need to make sure user docs are in order. Lots of 'non-programming' stuff left still.

    1. 1

That's a very cool idea. Outdated documentation is a big problem everybody have. If it's accurate and work well, I'm sure it will be interesting for many people, including me. Nice work!

    2. 1

Does this work on top of GitHub wiki? I have not started documentation for my product yet, but I will need to start that soon-ish. A couple founders want to try setting up my product locally (dwata is on-premise software) and I need to maintain both scripts and documentation for them to begin with.

      1. 1

        Yes, indeed!

The idea is that you connect a GH repository and Wiki Doc analyses the linked GH repo. In-repo documentation (e.g in a folder in your repo) will also be supported.

  29. 1

A little late to the conversation, but this month I will launch the MVP of my new side-project.

I will be posting updates here: https://www.tonykyriakidis.com/dynamo/

In September I built Filter'd. It is a Glide App that allows people to explore and share the coffee they are drinking. It was for a 30 day, nocode hackathon and I was really trying to validate if this was something people would use. The prototype is in a good place and my goal for this month is to focus on getting feedback and doing some user testing.

If anyone is interested, feel free to reach out. The goal the app is to connect people through specialty coffee, but also create a space to make coffee more accessible to people outside the niche community.

    App: https://cofffee.glideapp.io/

Build recently https:// feedlify.com for solo makers to get instant feedback on their product and generate leads. Hoping it will be helpful for them

  37. 1

For my product ruttl.com, the biggest goal for October is to increase my sign up list and active users on the platform. I've just started handing out beta access and any feedbacks on the website would be highly appreciated!

  38. 1

I'm launching the beta of Kollood - a community for people building in public.

  39. 1

Hi guys , so for this month i'm working on a tool that'll help me navigate other people's code better. its based on the idea of developers commenting their code in sections and being able to display a list of all the sections whenever the file is opened. Feedback and thoughts would be really appreciated. thanks

  40. 1

I built Just a poll this week (IH story https://www.indiehackers.com/post/a-different-kind-of-polls-9a900c4387) and I am off to some writing. I am working on a longer blog post about AI in Python and on my upcoming book Efficient developer.

  41. 1

I'm working on sticking with one tutorial series for learning Unity to eventually publish my first game, but right now all I want to do is finish one tutorial series without getting stuck, getting overwhelmed, or getting distracted.
Here is the notion page where I'm checking off my progress: https://www.notion.so/0d10de42770844dcb9b11336012e6c31?v=37188009759f4f6eb6ef411110c583e2

The next goal is to modify this and turn it into a small game.

I am building "Better Today", a personal productivity dashboard for busy professionals (like me). It help them manage their day (and their life) by tracking their goals, tasks, life, health and habits. It ensures that they have a clear view of their northstar at all times.

These are the mobile screens: https://i.imgur.com/XeiCzH6.png
This is how the dashboard looks on desktop: https://i.imgur.com/DAgCenI.png

In the first version, Better Today will have the following features:

    • Memories: a journal to keep track of important moments from today
    • Gratitude: a gratitude journal where you say thank you through your journal
    • Todos: a task manager and time tracker with Pomodoro/Interval timer
    • Tracker: a customizable habit and health tracker to track anything that is important for you
    • Bookmarks: a list of my bookmarks (useful when you have this app setup as a chrome new tab replacement)
    • Quotes: a subtle slideshow of motivating quotes that you can personalize

Right now everything has to be tracked manually but will start working on integrating APIs to automate fetching of data from various sources into this single dashboard.

For any productive tool to be effective, it has to be with you at all times. That is why I am building a web app, mobile apps for both Android and iOS and also a Chrome/Firefox/Edge extension.

I am building it in public on IH and Reddit (Last update was today https://www.indiehackers.com/post/weekly-development-update-for-better-today-my-app-which-is-a-personal-productivity-dashboard-7a98d6eb50)

Working on making it available for review to people who showed interest by end of next week.

  43. 1

A slight pivot in my role!
Moving away from mostly Marketing and Support to more Sales, in response to the times and the needs of our company right now. We've found Nov/Dec are really dead months for sales as the year winds down (and what a year it's been!).
Life and times of working in a startup, peeps ;)

  44. 1

I am working on the social layer in my app Jessle to help make monitoring competitors easier.

If your competitor makes an update to the website or social media, the app informs you... however, after using it, I find it annoying then having to go tell my colleagues about it manually, when I could instead of a comment system and tag people in. It would be far easier.

So that's my focus this month. Have that built, then get back to improving the trial experience.

Hopefully once that's done, I can get back to my focus of trying to sell.

It always feels 1 step forward and 2 steps back!

  45. 1

This is really cool. Excited for the first edition

  47. 1

I am focused on getting a new initiative - “unlimited digital marketing advice for $100 a month” get its first few takers. Have been in digital marketing world for a while and it is hard for small business owners, small startups and hackers to get the advice they need. I am trying out to see if my intuition that a subscription service has value holds true. Would love feedback on the concept as well as my site: Digitalacquisitionstrategy.com

  48. 1

Going to be able to beta launch Inbound

Been working on adding features prior to a betaList feature (which should be this week).

  49. 1

Just launched RealWork to the iPhone and android app stores.

We serve frontline and field workers which is an underrepresented group when it comes to available software tools. The app is free to download, so give it a spin and let me know what you think!

    Product - https://www.realwork.ai

  50. 1

This month, I'm working on a new landing page for https://web.tapereal.com - I'm not happy with the current design and positioning... so my goal is launch the new site before the middle of the month!

  51. 1

I'll build a SaaS app using my codebase as a head start. I will target it locally first since it will solve a regional problem (Mexico). It'll be something like "we do the tedious work for you" as a service.

  52. 1

I've got two businesses that I started this year while furloughed from my TV producing job, and my goal is to get both of them to $10k MRR by the end of the year.

Craftsman Creative (http://www.craftsmancreative.co) is an online course platform for creatives. The angle is that every course is aimed at helping creatives not just with the skills, but the mindset to be a professional creative. Also, the courses are all produced by me, so it's more of a Netflix model (curated, produced by me, etc) rather than a udemy model where anyone can upload their own course to the site.

$10k MRR for that business is about 70 courses per month at an average price of $143 (at the moment). So 2-3 courses per day. At a 4% conversion rate on the courses, that means I need to get ~2000 visitors to the site per month. I'm currently around 700-800 visitors, so my focus has been on creating more courses so that there's new audiences coming to the site, and doing more marketing and advertising to 3x my monthly visitors to the site.

Benchmark App (http://bnchmrk.app) is a new tool for artists, creatives, and small business owners (read: Indie Hackers!) that helps identify the weak links in their business and what to focus on to see the greatest results.

Right now, we're just finishing up our beta test and starting to launch the product. I'm creating a new podcast and a new daily video series to help promote the app through content. Being bootstrapped, we don't currently have money for advertising, but will start running paid ads after we reach 100 sales. The goal is to get to 1,000 sales by the end of the year, so we need LOTS of traffic to get those kinds of numbers.

At a $49 price point, we need 200 sales to get to $10k months, but that's not currently a recurring/subscription model. The plan is to build the "app" version of the tool early next year and then switch to a monthly subscription model at $15/month.

My thinking is that if we can grow to 1,000 users, then it's likely that 50% or so will switch to the paid subscription once the web app exists. We only need 667 people per month to hit $10k MRR, so the hope is that we're at that level of revenue right as we switch to the subscription model.

Would love any thoughts or feedback - if you see any glaring issues with my goals or my plan to achieve them, I'd love to hear.

    Excited for what's to come!

  53. 1

We are starting development on our MVP for Blur Social a platform for creators to promote and monetize their work. Bloggers, artists, podcasters, musicians and any other creators can check out our landing page and take a quick survey to get an invite when we launch!

  54. 1

Eager help desk, documentation site, customer support softare

I'm working on Eager.app, which is a 4-in-1 app suite for customer service, specifically aimed for SAAS businesses. Includes:

    • Help Desk / Team Shared Inbox
    • Documentation Site / Knowledge Base -- on your own custom domain or from a subdirectory (via reverse proxy)
    • Notification / Announcement JavaScript Widget
    • On-page Help Widget -- For customers to search the docs or send you a message

    Goals for October:

    1. Get 25+ prelaunch emails 👉 Feel free to help me out at https://eager.app
    2. Polish out existing features and minimize adding new features at the moment
    3. Start onboarding new users

Finishing up two different live action games, and submitting one to a design contest!

  57. 1

This month I'm working on Material UI support for divjoy.com, a React codebase generator. That means rebuilding all the templates (currently available in Bootstrap and Bulma) and adding some special functionality to the Divjoy editor to handle Material UI's style and theming system.

    1. 2

Hey! this looks awesome, a few years ago I worked on implementing a Material theme on the component library we sold at the company I worked for at the time. While Material has some special functionality, it was really fun to dive deep and understand that design language. Best of luck to you!

      1. 2

Thanks Andrew! I'm really liking Material UI so far and it's definitely the most requested feature so excited to get this in.

  58. 1

This month I launched Automation Cookbook. It's a newsletter for entrepreneurs with stories and ideas about how to automate their businesses.

My goal is to grow 46% this month, which amounts to 10% week over week. Since the numbers are small right now, I think this should be doable.

  59. 1

Does anyone have any referrals for off shore mobile app developers?

We just made our landing page and are looking to grow our waitlist at www.travoshare.com! We want to make it easier to find and share travel recommendations with your friends' and family so that it's easier to travel (once it's safe to travel again).

Me and my co-founder met here on IH actually :) and are now working to incorporate some very early initial feedback to our MVP.

iOS 14 icons! 📱Would love to hear what you all think of my weekend project – tobias.so/icons

    1. 2

These are neat! I haven't personally personalized any of my icons (yet?) but have seen the sweeping popularity across Youtube and other social platforms of people working to really outfit their phone to their liking :)

      1. 1

Thanks @xtyc!! Haha yes it's become really popular, I've spent a lot of my free time on this so hopefully people will like them 😊

  63. 1

📙 Still writing my book, Building Your Mouseless Development Environment.

I'm writing like crazy these days to finish the book sample I'll send to the subscribers of my newsletter next Monday 5th October!

The goal for this month is to finish the second draft. I wrote in total 300+ focused pomodoros only for the book, and I love every step of the way! It's so satisfying to write 🥰

    1. 1

Writing a book is a huge undertaking. Good luck!

I am just randomly testing new ideas after pivoting. Working on matterprobe , a chrome extension that finds jobs and opportunities as you browse. Not sure if anyone would need this but here's the landing page https://matterprobe.web.app

  65. 1

Working on a bunch of new content at Baremetrics. I have a goal to write and publish at least one new article per week in October (the first one is coming today!). Also, I've been spending more time publishing content on Twitter. We had some good growth in September compared to August, so I'm looking forward to keeping that going.

  66. 1

Our target is to onboard at least 300-500 users on (https://www.trappisone.com ) who will be mostly our early adopters. We have just breached 180 users thus far. Try it out guys to learn more interesting stuff

    1. 1

Congrats on the initial users! How are you finding them so far?

I found it a bit confusing trying to understand your page - what is the one sentence elevator pitch for it?

      1. 1

        Mostly friends,families and colleagues .
It is a community to discover and Share Interesting facts/opinions as "Did you knows".

        1. 1

Oh interesting! Makes sense! I feel like there are a lot of people on Reddit who would be interesting in unearthing fun facts / did you knows.

  67. 1

I am doing a pivot for MVP maker (https://mvpmaker.co) , also I want to launch a job board for south america with Pory. I am looking to join with another makers to do a great products!

I love how you turned a typical agency model which can have scope creep into a defined productised service! 👌

      1. 1

haha It is a challenge, thanks

  68. 1

    Hello everyone,

I've just finished building the MVP for Churndler
Churndler (churn-handler) is designed to help SaaS companies eliminate churn, better understand their customers, and support product growth.

I'm looking for SaaS owners to join our platform and provide feedback about the product, in return you will get an extended trial for 3 months (instead of 14 days) and 30% discount if you choose to keep your subscription.

Also, I'd love to get feedback about the product and our homepage so feel free to shot an email to [email protected]

    1. 2

      Hi @idogrady,

I was just checking out the homepage and I think the content is there, but seeing some inconsistent spacing and layout. I would see if you can try and find a way so the page flows a little better and people will want to keep scrolling down the page. I also noticed that once you click pricing it isn't easy to navigate back to the home page. Maybe add another navigation link to home or about?

      Just some thoughts!

      1. 1

        Appreciate the feedback, thanks!

I am building the same product (hurray for sticking to it) for 7 months now. dwata has surely matured and now I am trying to finish authentication/authorization features so that I can encourage a CTO from a 40 people German company to adopt dwata.

The product messaging has surely become sharper -
    Manage databases without knowing SQL

This is my sales pitch for the current state of the product. There is a lot to come but I have figured out that Sales, Marketing, Product, non-tech Founders and even semi-technical folks really struggle or do not like even seeing SQL.

dwata does not even show SQL anywhere on the UX. The interface is very inspired by MS Excel, Google Spreadsheets and Airtable. There is a lot to do but I have covered good grounds and dwata can allow you to make multi-table queries - it builds the SQL for you! I am aiming for Grouping, Aggregates, Pivots and Formulas gradually - but all without any SQL knowledge for the user. The mission is to never need engineering help to work with databases.

I would love feedback from all of you here who might have had to do queries, even simple looking ones like "Show me Orders from last year where Item value was above $50" - that usually needs 3 tables to be JOINed in SQL. dwata can do that automatically for you.

I like the product site! It's clear and well explained.

I tried the demo, and my first instinct was trying to modify the cells by double clicking on them. Since you sell it as a spreadsheet-like product, I expect many people trying to do the same. Is it because we can't write the database, or because it's not implemented? It's confusing to me :)

This sounds really cool. How do you plan to share your work? Twitter?

Really interesting color palette & front page design.

      • The free plan doesn't include 12 mo data retention. What's the included time there?

Hey, do you have time to chat at some point? I have an idea that I'd like to discuss with you. I couldn't message you via Twitter, so if you're interested, email me via my profile :)

Thanks for sharing 🙏 Sometimes things just seem super negative and like you won't see the end of the tunnel.

Just my two cents, but it seems like you might not need to sweat about payment too much at that stage. I understand that it looks more credible to have a stripe account and all, but in the end, when you make something of value, people will find a way to pay you.

For example I recently launched a new offer and we don't have payment in place. Client basically fills a form and we then ask them to wire the money or send a PayPal link.

Speaking of which, I assume PayPal would be supported in Estonia no? At least in France, they don't require any verification as long as you don't make more than $2k a year. By the time you make that, you can invest the money in forming an LLC and getting all the compatibility you need.

You can also simply try to see if the transfer wise solution works out. Might not be the best long term way, but it can take you pretty far already.

Just my two cents trying to be helpful, obviously I don't have all the info here ;)

Oh wow, I didn't know Turkey limited PayPal too. It's weird because the tech scene is pretty active there... crazy governments! Keep pushing and you'll find a way. I hope there are Turkey payment processing companies that could handle your needs, even though it's not ideal it would take you 80% there.

Hey mate. Reading this, I'm glad the buy-me-a-coffee payment the other day worked! I hope it arrived in the end! 😅 I would have been happy to pay with Bitcoin if I knew this was a struggle that people had. I'm sure a minority of others would too, and it costs very little to throw a public key into an email. Just an idea, I hope it helps.

Hey, I would say find a supported payment solution and work on your projects with that, even if it means manually getting paid. I don't know you by any way, but for example if you do voiceovers, do it for someone in your locality, get paid, do it for someone who also uses the supported payments solutions, and in supported freelancing platforms, or find local jobs, work, save money, get Atlas.

I know what saving is my currency goes like $0.007 USD and it was hard when I started too. After my first few freelance gigs things got better and I was able to lift me up.
