What do you need help with right now?

At the beginning of every month indie hackers share their monthly goals with each other. Now let's discuss the challenges we're all facing to reach those goals!

  • What do you need help with?
  • What help/advice/service can you offer others?

Please reply to someone else and help them out — especially if you've requested help yourself!

I need help solving the positioning problem Pluckd has!

How can you help me: try to explain to me what my product does and who are my competitors. I think there is a huge disconnect between how I think about Pluckd vs what others think about it.

    Things I can help with:

    • Landing page feedback
    • Employee engagement questions
    • Product management questions
    • Django/Python questions
    • Retail Analytics

I NEED: To create awareness of my product to keep traction going, I think I'm ready to have influencers to look at my software but I need advice (any), maybe you know someone, maybe you have experience dealing with them or maybe you are that person! and I NEED to listen what you can say... if you google my product the results might even surprise you but need to keep the snowball rolling and growing and maybe influencers might help a lot. https://juxtappose.com

I CAN HELP WITH: If you are starting and need advice on vendors and services that are for free I did A TON of research when I started and can share those findings, you might need what I found to reduce your expenses.

Hi, how is this different from tools like PowerBI or Tableau?

      1. 1

Absolutely different, both PowerBI and Tableau are data visualization tools, you use those when your data is nice and clean and you are looking to create dashboards.

JuxtAPPose is the tool you use to validate your data, a typical example is the awful situation where two reports/lists don't match and you have to find out which from your thousands or millions of records have any differences (or doesn't exist), this is NOT a database server comparison tool, there are plenty of those out there, JuxtAPPose compares data from queries, excel, csv files rather than selecting a database and choosing only tables.

Why is this important? This is a VERY common situation across all industries using reports and people spend hours and sometimes even days doing this exercise, and this example is there form non-tech savvy people to data engineers (specially for report migrations), in addition to that, data rockstars often find my tool absolutely necessary because gives you the confidence your data is 100% correct consuming the minimum of your time, that directly encourages users to run more tests and find errors before is too late.

In a nutshell, comparing data (queries and files) is a problem we've been dragging since reports were done in computers and people keep spending time solving this with tools that are not built for this... Excellent explanation. I would recommend that you take your response and find a way to incorporate this messaging into your website and your marketing efforts.

Personally, I think your home page and hero section should include marketing copy that helps you articulate the problem statement, the value of your solution, and ultimately why JuxtAPPose is the right solution. Maybe your tagline should be something like "Avoid Costly Data Corruption Issues - Use JuxtAPPose", "Protect Your Data's Integrity with JuxtAPPose", or "Quickly Recover Corrupted Data - JuxtAPPose".

In my mind, this isn't about data comparisons. The real issues are likely data corruption, the potential for data loss, downtime, or worse - a business impact. Your solution helps people avoid that pain by enabling them to validate good data and help respond to these situations quicker and more effectively than they would otherwise. So the value you're selling is - the dollar value of people's time, avoiding the risk of data loss, quick recovery times, lessening or avoiding business impact etc, etc.

I like the fact that you have some on-page SEO but you've only got three old blog posts from June on your site and you have some issues that are impacting your site's ability to generate organic traffic: https://app.neilpatel.com/en/seo_analyzer/site_audit?domain=juxtappose.com&view=overview.

I also subscribe to the belief that we need some pages that are designed for selling which are more visually oriented without lots of text and other pages that are more informative and where necessary contain technical and other details (dedicated pages and blog posts) that contain search terms and keywords and are designed less for human consumption and more for Search.

I think your blog posts and any videos should be centered around how JuxtAPPose helps eliminate or reduce these issues or pain points. In your case, it might be better and more effective to post customer case studies ("this is how XYZ Corp validated data and recovered from an incident!") and informative blog posts.

You could potentially claim that your solution helps avoid costly compliance issues (the "I" in the CIA triad) or helps mitigate risks related to the General Controls part of the Financial Audit of US publicly traded companies but that may be a huge stretch and I could be completely off base.

This is a super valuable input, thank you so much for all of this!!! if you ever need my software please just let me know.

            1. 1

You're very welcome. I'm happy to help. I think my recommendations will hopefully help you with conversions (and maybe help a little with traffic) but I don't feel like I really helped with your most important question which was how to get more traction. I'm just throwing this out there but I think even though the use case is different, I think users of PowerBI and Tableau would also be your perfect buyer. Therefore, my recommendation would be for you to: 1) find out where they hang out and post there. For example, community.powerbi.com 2) use LinkedIn and/or LinkedIn Sales Navigator to find database administrators, PowerBi and Tableau users and then message them directly trying to prospect them. I think given your price point and possibly the fact that your goal since you have a recurring revenue model, is to keep them as users forever (or at least multiple years). Therefore, I think a traditional software sales model could work for you.

promote BlurWebApp i did a launch in facebook group crossed 60+ paid users in few days now stuck adding affiliate option so that influencer can be incentivised to promote

    1. 1

I don't see it listed in either the Chrome web store or Edge Add-ons. I would think that would be a great way to get more traction and paid users.

      1. 1

correct, actually its like this because of my licencing process i am working on it once done i can make the extension public. Do you like the extension by the way? as a fellow indie hacker i will be more than happy to share a licence for free with you

        1. 2

As a security professional, yes. I think it's highly useful. I'd love to have access to it. Once I do, I can write up a short little blurb and share it on my social media feeds. I have about 6200 LinkedIn connections and almost 4000 Facebook friends. Not huge numbers but I hope at least a little help to you.

I’m young, have plenty of time, and the skillset to build whatever I want. I also grew up with both parents running and growing different businesses. - I’ve been in that environment my entire life.

What I’m struggling with is that I don’t have any ideas. Atleast none which I’m truly passionate about.

I am trying to teach myself to have ideas, and that’s what I’m struggling with.

    1. 1

Many successful ideas come from problems founders want to solve for themselves, their friends, and/or family. They then realize that other people have the same problems and they've got a viable solution to offer.

I'm not very good at this myself but I think it helps to look around at things we experience in our daily lives and frame them into two motivators: pain and pleasure. In other words, coming up with ideas to make lives easier (reduce pain) or makes people happy or gives them enjoyment (pleasure).

Sometimes brand new ideas enter the market and other times it's not an innovation but an improvement. Consumer electronics offer some great examples of product evolution that include both innovation and improvements: records -> reel-to-reel -> cassettes -> laser disks -> compact discs -> electronic media -> digital media.

    2. 1

For me, I've found a lot of ideas in seeking change. You mention growing up in the same environment for a long time--I would look for ways to break out of that. Maybe you can make time to connect with people online who come from very different backgrounds. I also like to immerse myself in content (books, articles, etc.) and force myself to write about what I'm consuming. That sparks a lot of ideas for me and brings attention to opportunities I never considered before

Need some more guidance on the copy of my site. Does this make sense to you?

Im also willign to help and share how I've founded a growth channel community and why I think this is a crazy awesome way to build out your own traffic channel and build Audienece first.

    1. 1

What if instead of appealing directly to individuals and selling it as an independent web application, you turned this into a WordPress plug-in? I looked and I see several plugins that do something like this - Easy Digital Downloads (60,000+ installs), WooCommerce (5+ million but WooCommerce does like "everything ecommerce"), WordPress Download Manager (100,000+ installs), and Premium Packages (5000+ installs).

I think if you don't do this, you need to find compelling ways of why this is better than self-publishing on say something like Amazon.

    2. 1

I think a good option would be finding and becoming active in communities of people who are most likely to create digital products i.e. people with audiences. There are communities on Facebook of bloggers, content creators, course creators, YouTubers etc. which are full of your potential users.

If you're looking for other ideas about where to find new users, I just built a tool which offers a free personalised report to help you identify the best marketing channels for your SaaS. If you're interested it's at https://www.lumive.io/

Thanks for this opportunity! I built a personality test and I want people to share their results on social media. I saw many other tests that allow sharing the results and if I follow their hashtags, I see that people actually do it. Why do people not share their results on my test?

    Hi Hackers!

I have been working on this product for 3 months and am looking for feedback and hope it helps people find B2B leads. I hope to measure interest and see if I should keep the idea or kill it.

    http://lionleads.app

I can offer feedback on products and web development advice.

    1. 2

My first impression was: Ouh my eyes hurt! The colors remind me very much at McDonalds, which (after comparing it) indeed look very similar. I don't personally find it very appealing. In a B2B setting, I might expect a color scheme that looks more professional.

I wasn't really sure I could click on "Solutions" in the top menu. Even when I clicked it, the style of the button didn't really change much, so it was unclear where I was at the page. Maybe add a breadcrumb or some other visual element to guide the user better.

These are two things that can be easily fixed, so don't be too worried about it. Maybe others have different opinions?

      1. 1

Second time I heard that on the colors. Not a fan of red either but my target audience is Sales folks and my competitor is using a similar color scheme. Also worked with the branding of the Lion.

I’ll experiment with some more colors. Any suggestions?

Totally right on the navigation colors. I’ll fix that easily.

    2. 1

I agree with Felix but maybe there's a simple fix. You could eliminate or reduce the wave. Maybe instead of the red wave, you could use a hero image or video that can convey the concept of "increasing sales".

Also, it's unclear to me exactly why this would be better than using LinkedIn and/or LinkedIn Sales Navigator for the kind of targeted prospecting it seems your using as your value proposition.

Also, one item isn't really a menu. Maybe you could create another page for features and where you talk features today, instead talk about the value of what your solution does that's better than the alternatives?

      1. 1

        Thank you!
This is all solid advice! Putting this all into my todo.
        Sincerely, thank you.

    3. 1

This is a really interesting concept and overall the landing page is very straight forward, it's clear what it does and what action you want the user to take, so very nice work.

The main issue I had was that the sample domain, "google.com", did not provide any emails when I tried it. Make sure you use a domain that you actually have emails for in your example. Also, adding autocomplete to the search bar would be a nice enhancement that may help drive engagement.

      1. 1

🤦‍♂️I can’t believe my example of Google.com stopped working. How embarrassing. Just fixed it. Thanks for letting me know.

The homepage has a typo in the subheader - "and deliver them to your users" — I'd assume you meant "delivering".

I don't know how to explain it but it also doesn't feel balanced. The text wraps in weird ways and the screenshot seems too small compared to the hero's text area.

By the time I get to the bottom of the page, I'm not quite convinced this is something I need so I bounced. I feel like I need to know if this is a problem I really have and should be concerned about. Some additional, well-thought out copy would be a nice addition, and possibly a demo video to show how the product works :-)

I personally like videos/recorded demos for most products — for pricey products though I do like to have a personal demo. So it really depends :-)

    2. 1

      Neat idea!

      1. For us, we aren't using any product management tools like Trello or Asano for our mobile app. Does your app support the ability to write or "roll my own" release notes?
      2. I manually type our release notes into the Google Play Console in English, translate them into 12 other languages, and then paste them into all of their respective versions. I have to do the same thing for our Google Play Store listing.
      3. We don't have the email addresses of the majority of our users. We have ~3000+ but if we marketed to them, I'd want to do more than send them a list of features. I would want to send them a nice templated email with images, formatting, and try to pivot the conversation from a list of features to value.

This is our Android app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.consumeraffinity.whereistheblue.

It's getting good downloads but I'm already aware it has major technical issues we're working on resolving.

I'd say if you can solve those problems, it's a possibility in the future. Right now we're on a very tight budget, focused mostly on software engineering and a paid app ad until we can finally start offsetting expenses with some revenue.

No, it's only available on Android. Once we get more traction and revenue growth, we'd do an iOS version.
