Weekly growth notes is the chance to share what you've been up to recently with a focus on growing your product.
By sharing openly we can not only support each other but we also have the opportunity to learn and be inspired by each others work.
I have been listening to a few sales podcasts this past weekend. https://www.indiehackers.com/podcast/119-steli-efti-of-close
I have tried messaging social media related people on Linkedin. I start by connecting with them. Only got a few to connect back. I am just trying to see what their pain points are. It's been hard to be consistent with that. I need to create a system. The hard part is Linkedin limits your searches. I may need to upgrade my Linkedin to paid.
I haven't really seen much growth yet. It's frustrating but I am trying to think critically and come up with systems. The problem is I feel all over the place with the growth. There are a million channels. I think I am spreading myself to thin. I need to focus on a few and find groups more targeted towards my audience - open to suggestions.
I've learned it's a bit harder than expected and can be chaotic. I am just learning to be patient and build an effective system - meaning have the right audience to target, the right messaging and building the proper funnel for what is needed.
I am open to insights. I'd like to reciprocate.
It's always hard to sell something like this, people want to see the results before they are willing to spend the money and time needed.
Have you thought about running an account or two in topics that interest you, using the tool so you can write a case study about how the tool helped you.
Doesn't have be a public case study but something that you can send to potential customers.
And yes I agree it is important to target a small group of people that you can easily reach. It's great to have a large target market, but reaching a smaller group early is really important.
For Pod Hunt, I started with the network I'm active in...podcasters in the indie hacker/maker space. Slowly now (mostly organically) the usage is expanding out of that niche, to other podcasters.
Great advice. Thanks.
Yeah, I think https://storycreatorapp.com/ could use testimonials. Once I get everything in place I am going to spend a week using my own tool to build 100 beautiful templates. My goal is to get users to have beautiful content in one click. Then they can modify the content to suit their needs with less than 5 min of work.
I think offering it for free at first with watermarks is effective. Then getting the users hooked. Eventually charging to remove watermarks is my strategy.
Been going on Podcasts talking about Pod Hunt directly and indirectly.
Great to be out there talking about Pod Hunt after focusing on building.
Although I've recorded a bunch of podcasts, only 2 have come out so far, which has helped a great deal. I forgot that people have publication schedules and editing takes time, so it might take a few weeks for my episodes to come out.
Been great honing the pitch for Pod Hunt, getting the benefits down to a sentence or two.
If you know of any podcasts that are looking for guests send them my way!
really enjoyed your episode on indie hackers! ๐๐
Awesome, glad to hear it!
That's awesome you have gotten on a few Podcasts. I managed to get an article written about my story on https://www.nocsdegree.com/from-living-in-a-car-to-becoming-a-developer/.
How that worked was I was actively engaged with https://twitter.com/IndieHackers and the founder of No CS degree posted on there and I simply reached out. I assume your approach was similar.
Do you mind briefly sharing how you managed to get on some Podcasts? Has the two that came out been effective?
Just by asking really. Most podcast hosts are looking for interesting stories to share. I posted in the Podcasters group here and tweeted that I was looking to be a guest.
It is working well for me, but given the nature of Pod Hunt I expected a direct affect. For other products it will really depend on the Podcast audience, etc.
Anyone listening to a podcast is a potential user for me, so being on Podcasts is an obvious way to promote Pod Hunt.
Oh, right I just saw that you were on there. Didn't realize it was you. Great tip BTW. I actually reached out to Steli from close.com. His advice was pretty obvious, mainly getting your message in front of a super targeted audience.
Since my tool https://storycreatorapp.com/ is a video editing and content creation tool. I am trying to discover if my audience is video editing people who create for social media. Or people who have no clue about video editing but need some tasks done for that on social media.
I need to really hash that out. Then I'll seek the proper groups and look for Podcast and other opportunities there.
Cheers
Being an active member of indie hackers :)

How do you feel that has helped?
The product I made overlaps with an audience with indie hackers so itโs been a good place to roll out a small launch and test everything with the people here!
I signed up for a CRM to help me keep track of the cold outreach emails I'm doing. It's helped me send a lot more emails this week!
I've also started replying to companies posting about remote jobs on Twitter. I actually got a response from the folks at doist, so I scheduled a couple email follow ups with a few people on the team to see if I can leverage that into a sale ๐ค
Which CRM did you go with?
I signed up for a free account with hubspot. I'm liking it so far!
Setting up (or cleaning up) all my social media accounts. I've slacked from posting on there, so getting that restarted today and putting together a strategy.
Cleaning up and being organized with social can be so helpful.
What's your strategy?
