What niche are you serving?

I've been thinking about starting businesses in very competitive spaces. The advice I've read most often is that the presence of competition is a good thing -- it means there's a good market! The key is to differentiate your product sufficiently so that you are the ideal solution for a subset of that vast market.

Who out there has done this?

Please share:

  1. Link to your project
  2. Competitors in your space
  3. The niche you're targeting, and what makes your product ideal for them

Thanks in advance!

    3. Our target users are small companies, startups, web3 projects that want to co-construct their products with their users/customers, because they want to make a product that people actually want.

I like the idea behind Dupple a lot. Are there any incentives in place for the users to reward them for their part in co-construction?

      1. 1

Not yet, but depending on the feedbacks we receive we think we could add a ranking system that you would link to perks. For instance, the more you participate, the less you would pay each month (you'd receive a coupon each time you reach a certain threshold of participation). It could be a great way to offshore your customer support to your own users :)

    3. My target users are 'companies that want to create web pages/web apps from data sources without writing any code'. Data sources can be Google Sheets, Airtable, Supabase or any traditional data source.

Is this some kind of landing page generator or a card generator? I couldn't really make out what it was supposed to do from the samples 😅

      1. 2

Its a full website/webapp generator. You can create static, dynamic pages (thousands of pages can be created from data sources like Google Sheets, Airtable, Supabase etc). You can also attach login/logout functionality with filters, search for the data and also can display data in form of beautiful cards.

    2. 1

This sounds interesting, but I'm having a hard time understanding exactly the transformation that the data undergoes. Have you considered maybe including a short video showing the data stream and how it gets mocked up as a card?

    3. 1

      Damn looks cool!

May I ask how many clients are paying for Flezr?
And how long have you worked on building the tool?

    3. It's a niche job board. Our target customers are consulting firms, who need to hire specialists and domain experts, and are willing to pay for a job post.

Is $299 for a job posting cheap compared to other job boards? You don't have to have that many listings at that price before you're making a lot of money!

      1. 1

Good question, I would say $299 is pretty average. My research showed that remoteok.com is charging $900, weworkremotely.com $299, pompcryptojobs.com $299, web3.career $650, etc. Obviously it all depends on the number of visitors your job board gets, and how many qualified leads the company gets in return. Will definitely experiment with pricing.

    1. interactlist.com
    2. checkli, checklist, Excel
    3. Content creators who want to strengthen their content and improve user engagement by providing their users/readers with a checklist (embedded or linked). Interact List differs in a few ways, free, supports markdown, ability to customise a 'popup' CTA that's shown when a user completes a checklist (A nice way to cross promote or upsell). Future road map features might include: theming, custom meta for social sharing, verified/blue tick accounts, etc

    Example: Landing Page Pricing Checklist

I like this idea! How did you decide to focus on check lists?

      1. 1

Thanks Brandon! Thats a great question.

The prototype of interactlist.com was built for Rob Hope He was writing his ebook titled Landing Page Hot Tips and wanted interactive checklists (vs a static PDF) to strengthen the core product. This created a better first impression while giving the customer a more immersive learning experience (supports markdown, reference links etc).

I wrote a brief post about this Greenlighting a checklist webapp side-project

Very cool! What's your plan to find users?

          1. 1

            Great question again :)

            1. I reached out on Twitter and already have 100+ interested ones who've signed up for beta, hopefully they continue to spread the word.
            2. Each checklist that gets shared has links back to interactlist.com to get more leads.

You make a great point about giving advice:

When immediate results are needed, too much advice is unactionable. Give me one thing to think about and I’ll change it next round.

    3. Most of these tools are very technical and require solid technical knowledge to configure them. I try to target management-level folks who want to quickly set up basic monitoring for their startup/SMB websites using just a few clicks.
    1. 1

Did you work in website analytics prior to building dtekt? How did decide on your features?

      1. 1

At one of my previous employers, I've been building an in-house solution that allowed website performance monitoring. I decided it would be worth turning that knowledge into a product.

As this is a very feature-oriented niche we initially wanted to provide enough features for people using e.g. Pingdom to get them interested in our product and consider a migration. We did successfully onboarded one company that switched Pingdom with our Tool. So we had to implement not only performance monitoring but also, for example, Uptime. However, now we will probably focus on performance monitoring features a bit more because it is difficult to get correct and we think we can have a competitive advantage in some of the aspects there.

BTW. We are also two technical people and we are looking for a co-founder who could run the sales/marketing side of the project because we are definitely lacking here.

If you'd have any suggestions for us... Shoot it! [email protected]

      1. 1

Frankly I haven't landed yet haha. Been making the rounds on IH, Reddit and Twitter but only saw a spike in traffic. But no sign ups. Planning to tweak the copy a bit and also start content marketing efforts.

Did you have previous experience in the music industry? How did you know that a product like this was needed?
